Satyam Singh says dropping the year should be the last option for students with low scores in any competitive exam. Explore all the options available and try not to deviate from the path.
Joint Entrance Examination – Advanced (JEE Advanced) is conducted by IITs for admission in IIT across the country. Students need to prepare for this exam to get admission in their college. Every student often wants to know the option available if they could not get admission in the top IIT. This article discusses the options available for students who have qualified JEE Advanced with low scores. The students with low scores in JEE Advanced should not lose hope as this is not the end of the road.

In my opinion, I would suggest that dropping a year must be the last option. One should only consider dropping a year when there is no other option left for them or when they are determined that next year they would clear the exam with good marks.
After clearing JEE Advanced, one could get admissions in IITs. There are 17 IITs in India with different branches in the field of engineering. Some of the branches are Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, etc. The top IITs are IIT Bombay , IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, and IIT Kharagpur.
There are other IITs as well which give admission to students even with low scores. These IITs are still better than many government institutions. Therefore, students with low scores could consider this option.
The students must continue working on enhancing their skills even after getting admission in their desired college.
Before getting admission in IIT there are several rounds of counselling session. So if one has applied for a college then they should wait for the counselling session. Waiting for the last round of counselling sessions solely depends on whether or not they are getting a college of their choice.
The pattern of JEE Advanced is not fixed as it changes every year. Unlike other exams, in JEE Advanced there is an individual subject cut-off and if one fails to clear that then they would not qualify the exam. For qualifying this exam, one needs to cover all the topics of each subject.
The total time duration of this paper is six hours. It is conducted in two parts and the time duration of each part is three hours. There are different types of questions in this paper, such as Single Correct, Multiple Choice Questions and Numerical Data Type Questions. One could give this exam two times, i.e. one in Class 12 and the other in the dropped year.

No, same questions never get repeated in IIT JEE exam. However, questions with similar concepts can find places in the exam. The question paper of JEE Advanced is prepared considering the syllabus and exam pattern.

You will not be eligible for admission as preparatory ranks are not considered under round 1. Since you have already qualified to appear for JEE (Advanced), all you need to do is meet the second criterion and apply for round 2, which will be only conducted if seats from round 1 remain vacant.

Yes, you can still get admission in Round 2 if you meet eligibility criteria to appear in JEE (Advanced) and have a valid JEE (Mains) rank. Also, you must have scored 60% or above in class 12th. For SC/ST/PwD category students, 55% or above is required.

No, candidates need not pay any fees to participate in JEE Adv counselling. However, once the seat is allotted, candidates will need to pay approximately INR 35,000 (less for reserved category) as a seat acceptance fee and around INR 20,000 as partial admission fees. Both these payments are adjusted
