To apply for TNEA 2026, candidates have to meet the below requirements: Candidates must have passed the 10+2 exam with a minimum of 45% marks (40% for reserved category candidates). They should have passed the 10+2 exam from Tamil Nadu board or any equivalent board. They must have cleared any one of the HSC (Vocational Subject) with one of the Engineering related subjects namely Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry. Apart from that, they following requirements must be also met: Tamil Nadu candidates who have passed their Class VIII to Class XII standard in Tamil Nadu. Children of Central Government Employees, irrespective of their nativity, provided their parents or guardians (only if both parents are not alive) have been serving in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past five years at the time of TNEA application form submission. Sons/daughters of All India Service Tamil Nadu cadre officers. Children of employees in the Public Sector or Government recognised institutions who at the time of TNEA 2026 application form submission had been working in their organisations for the past five years are also eligible to apply, irrespective of their domicile. Other state candidates who have studied from Class VIII to Class XII in Tamil Nadu can also apply for TNEA 2026. Tamil Nadu native candidates who have passed any of the VIII, IX, X, XI and XII standards or their equivalent examinations from schools situated outside Tamil Nadu can also apply for TNEA.

TNEA 2026 notification will be out in May 2026.

TNEA stands for Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions. The Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu conducts TNEA every year. It is an online counselling window. All Indian National candidates who wish to take admission to Government and Government Aided Engineering Colleges, University Departments and Constituent Colleges of Anna University, Annamalai University and for the seats surrendered by Self-Financing Engineering Colleges in Tamil Nadu have to apply for TNEA counselling.

TNEA counselling is a Unified Single Window Admission System for Indian Nationals only. The courses offered via this online counselling are BE/BTech and BE (sandwich) courses. TNEA counselling is conducted online in 4 rounds as per the schedule. Candidates need to participate in corresponding rounds based on their rank.

The following candidates can participate in the TNEA supplementary counselling:

• Candidates who have passed in the supplementary 12th examinations.
• Those who have missed to register for the general counselling.
• Those who haven’t got a seat during the general counselling.
• Those who have missed to fill their choices.

A candidate will have a three-day window to fill out their choices in TNEA counelling, during which they must select preferred colleges and branches. The order in which the choices are ranked is crucial. Candidates can choose as many options they feel appropriate in the choice filling process.

TNEA 2026 rank list will be out on June 2026. The rank / merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained in the relevant subjects, namely, Maths Physics and Chemistry which is reduced to 200, Maths -100, Physics - 50 and Chemistry - 50. After the normalisation of marks in the relevant subjects in the qualifying examination conducted by different Boards, the qualified students shall be merged into a common merit list. The overall rank and community rank are published on the official TNEA website. A week is reserved for addressing applicants grievances after the publication of the rank. Candidates whose names appear in the rank list will have to appear for the counselling rounds. The counselling rounds include Choice Filling, Allotment, Confirmation of Allotment, and Reporting to College/TFC and payment of fees depending upon their confirmation.

Here are the steps to check the TNEA 2026 rank list:

1. Go to the official TNEA 2026 website: tneaonline.org
2. Click on the 'Rank details' link.
3. You will see a list of category-wise rank list PDFs on the screen.
4. Select the category you belong to.
5. The rank list will be displayed in PDF format on your screen.

The TNEA choice filling dates will be announced on the official website of TNEA, tneaonline.org. candidates will be able to fill in their choices of colleges and courses as per their TNEA 2026 rank.

If a candidate do not lock the choices filled by them in TNEA counselling then the choices will automatically be locked at the end of the choice filling deadline.

The TNEA 2026 counselling will end in September 2026.

BE/B.Tech admission in Tamil Nadu is done based on the online counselling process called TNEA. There is no state-level entrance exam for admission in Tamil Nadu. Yes, candidates seeking admission in BE/ BTech courses have to register for TNEA Counselling after completing Class 12. Aspirants are alloted seat in the programme based on their Class 12 score during the TNEA Counselling. Once the seat is alloted, candidates have to pay a course fee to confirm their seat in the institute. 

The TNEA 2026 document verification at the TFC was held in June 2026. The uploaded certificates are subjected to verification at the TFCs selected by the candidates in the online application form. The Certificate uploading and verification procedure is intimated after the completion of the registration process. While verifying the documents uploaded during TNEA 2026 registration, candidates have to follow the following steps:

If the status shown is Incomplete, candidates have to scan all the required certificates as a single pdf file and upload it.

After uploading they must freeze the upload and logout.

If the status shown is 'upload not completed and Upload status as Not started', scan all the certificates as a single pdf file and upload.

After uploading freeze the upload and logout.

If the status shown is 'In Progress', it indicates that Certificate verification is under process.

If the status shown is 'Completed successfully', then it indicates that Certificate verification is completed successfully for that Application.

Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu conducts Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission TNEA 2026. Earlier, TNEA counselling was conducted by Anna University. TNEA counselling is a single-window process and admissions in Tamil Nadu engineering colleges are offered through such a process because authorities believe that such an initiative facilitates transparency. TNEA rank list is used to offer admissions to candidates in undergraduate programmes like Bachelor of Engineering (BE) and Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in colleges of Tamil Nadu. Candidates must note that TNEA written exam has been scrapped as the counselling is based on Class 12 marks and therefore seats are allotted in the colleges through the TNEA rank list.

Yes, a Diploma holder candidate can apply for the TNEA examination. However, they have to complete their three years of engineering Diploma after class 12th with 50% aggregate score to be eligible to do so. Also, it is mandatory for the candidate to have completed the 12th grade before appearing in the examination.

Candidates can edit the TNEA 2026 application form until the last date of registration. The candidate has to fill up the details in the application form and they can give their preference of TFC for online Certificates Verification.
