IIT Delhi Summer Bootcamp 2025: The Change Makers 2025 Summer Bootcamp, organised by IIT Delhi for students of Classes 11, 12, and first-year undergraduate programs, concluded successfully with an exhibition of innovative solutions addressing some of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time. A total of 106 students from across the country participated in the three-week hybrid bootcamp.

Divided into 18 teams, the students developed prototype-based solutions tackling issues such as carbon emissions, air and water pollution, drinking water contamination, heatwaves, plastic waste and e-waste management, waste segregation, microplastics in soil and water, crop waste, water scarcity, and unsustainable food-related behaviours.

Each team at the Change Makers 2025 Bootcamp developed a unique prototype aligned with their assigned environmental challenge. The solutions presented were as follows:

  • Waste2Wrap: Developed sustainable packaging using corn husk waste.
  • Team Aeronova: Created a smart exhaust emission controller to reduce vehicular pollution.
  • NeerVeer: Designed a soil parameter sensing app to help prevent over-irrigation in farms.
  • Ecoseal: Introduced a bioplastic adhesive tape as an alternative to conventional plastic tapes.
  • Segrenation: Built an AI-powered smart bin to segregate recyclable and non-recyclable waste.
  • Solaris: Developed a solar suitcase to provide clean energy in remote and underserved areas.
  • From Heat to Hope: Designed an awareness and safety app to help vulnerable communities cope with heatwaves.
  • Power from Motion: Proposed devices using piezoelectricity and bicycle pedaling to generate electricity.
  • Voltgo: Focused on retrieving energy from used batteries and promoting safe e-waste disposal.
  • Khaana Rewind: Addressed household food waste through behavioural interventions and awareness.
  • Aqua Nova: Used an algal photobioreactor to reduce phosphate and nitrate levels in the Yamuna River.
  • The Plastic Police: Developed marine-degradable bioplastic to combat marine plastic pollution.
  • Hydrosave: Designed a greywater filtration system for reuse in flushing, gardening, and other non-potable applications.
  • Eco Mode: Created an app to raise awareness and encourage actions to reduce air pollution.
  • Segrego: Built another AI-powered smart bin with auto-detection capabilities for waste segregation.
  • Greenpower: Engineered an all-terrain generator harnessing solar, wind, micro-hydro, and electromagnetic waves.
  • Neerja: Aimed to reduce water contamination by producing biochar from locally sourced materials.
  • Microplastics: Developed a solution using GAC charcoal to detect and reduce microplastics in water and soil.

During the bootcamp, students received valuable mentorship from IIT Delhi faculty, staff, students, Change Makers alumni, and industry experts on their respective projects. Their experience was further enriched through hands-on learning at the Makerspace, access to the Instituteโ€™s cutting-edge R&D facilities particularly at the Centre for Rural Development and Technology and a range of immersive activities, including a cleanliness drive, a nature walk, and a participatory design workshop focused on climate action.

IIT Delhiโ€™s Prof. Jay Dhariwal, Faculty Coordinator, Change Makers 2025 Summer Bootcamp, said, โ€œWe are very happy that the students were able to work on an environmental problem of their choice and learned to apply the design thinking process for ill-defined problem-solving to come up with innovative solutions, appreciated by all. It was also heartening to experience the mentors and the project solutions come together from the diverse domains of engineering, sciences, design, architecture, humanities, and policy in an interdisciplinary manner to address real-world problems.โ€
