How to select IISERs during online application?

At the time of online application, a candidate will be shown 9 programmes across 7 IISERs or 7 programs across 7 IISERs if the candidate did not have Mathematics as a subject in class 12 or equivalent and is not eligible for BS Economic Sciences and BS Engineering Sciences. Candidate is required to make a preference list from among these programs for which the candidate wants to be considered for an admission. The preference order must be from the most preferred first preference to the least preferred or last preference. The preference list must contain at least one IISER programme. A candidate will be considered only to those IISER programs which are in the candidates preference list. Consequently, a candidate will not be considered for an admission to an IISER programme that is not mentioned in the candidates preference list.

What is IISER Aptitude Test?

The IISER Entrance Exam, also known as the IISER Aptitude Test, is conducted by IISERs for admission to five-year BS-MS dual degree programmes offered by them. Each year, one of the IISERs conducts the test on a rotatory basis. On the basis of a candidate’s score in the exam, he/she can secure admission at IISER located in Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram, or Tirupati, or IISc Bangalore or IIT Madras. It is an undergraduate-level entrance exam for students of the Science stream who wish to take admission to one of the IISER campuses, or IISc Bangalore and IIT Madras BS programmes.

Candidates who have cleared their Class 12 in the Science stream, or are scheduled to appear for the Class 12 Board exam or equivalent in the next academic year, are eligible to apply for the IISER entrance exam. As per the IISER entrance exam pattern, there are a total of 60 objective questions that candidates need to complete in a three-hour duration. IISER Entrance Exam 2026 Eligibility Criteria

IISER 2026 eligibility criteria are available online. Candidates can check the eligibility criteria to know the minimum conditions to appear for the entrance exam. IAT eligibility criteria 2026 are mentioned below.

The candidates must have passed the Class 12 Board exam or equivalent level exam in 2024, 2025 or 2026 from any board recognised by the Council of Boards of School Education in India.
Candidates slated to appear for their Class 12 Board exam is 2026 are also eligible for IAT 2026, provided they qualify for the exam before the counselling process.
Candidates should have studied at least three subjects among Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics during their higher secondary education.
Candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PWD categories are required to score a minimum of 55 per cent marks in aggregate or equivalent grade in their Class 12 or equivalent examination. Candidates belonging to unreserved categories are required to score a minimum of 60 per cent marks in aggregate or equivalent grade in their Class 12 Board examination.
There is no age limit to appear for the IISER Entrance Exam.

NOTE: The students from the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education, from the Kashmir division/Winter Zone areas of Jammu division and the Ladakh, who had appeared in their Class 12 or equivalent level examination in December 2022, will also be eligible to apply for the IISER entrance exam 2026, provided they fulfil all the other eligibility criteria.

The IISER exam pattern 2026 is available online. Candidates can check the exam pattern to know the marking scheme, exam duration, types of questions, and more. IAT exam is a computer-based test. It is conducted for three hours. The question paper comprises four sections of Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Each section comprises 15 multiple choice question. IISER Entrance Exam Syllabus

IISER Berhampur has released the IISER syllabus 2026. Questions in the IISER exam are asked from topics present in the syllabus of Class 11 and 12 books. The IISER exam question paper contains questions from the sections Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. For better preparation for the IISER Aptitude Test 2026, the candidate must review the complete IISER syllabus, as the questions asked will test the candidate's analytic ability.

IISER entrance examination is considered to be one of the finest and toughest exams under the Science stream undergraduate entrance examination, as it provides the BSMS dual degree in the most reputed and research-oriented institutions across the country, which are IISERs. On a comparison note, candidates will find the examination tougher than JEE Main exam, but easier than the JEE Advanced. Unlike JEE or NEET, the IISER aptitude test asks questions from both Mathematics and Biology.

The authority will issue the admit card on May 24, 2026. IISER admit card will be available for registered candidates. Using the login credentials they can access the admit card online. Candidate's name, exam date & time, exam centre address, and few important guidelines will be mentioned in the IAT 2026 hall ticket. The process to download the IAT hall ticket is mentioned below.

IISER Entrance Exam Centres

IISER Berhampur has released the IISER exam centre list. Candidates can check the list of IISER exam centres to know the city names where the test will be conducted. While filling the IAT form, candidates need to submit their preference for the test centre. The IISER exam centre address will be mentioned in the hall ticket.

IISER Entrance Exam Analysis

IISER exam 2026 will be held on June 7, 2026. So, candidates are advised to start the preparation for the exam.

In the previous year, candidates who opted for PCM found the Biology section tough to attempt, and candidates who had PCB in their class 12 found the Mathematics subject questions difficult to solve. Topics were equally distributed from the IAT syllabus. Preparation from the NCERT Books will help students have a good IAT score. There were no such technical glitches found at the examination hall.

IISER 2026 Result

IISER 2026 result will be announced online. Candidates have to provide their user id and password to check the result of IISER 2026. All India Rank (AIR) and marks obtained will be mentioned in the IAT scorecard. Students who qualify the exam can participate in the counselling process. The authority will release the IAT counselling details online.

IISER 2026 Counselling

The IISER counselling process is expected to start in the second week of May 2026. Only the qualified candidates will be eligible for the counselling. Candidates need to fill out the IISER counselling registration 2026 by visiting the exam portal and log in to their registered accounts. The counselling or admission process for IISER involves the following stages:

Fill up the registration form: Qualiying or eligible candidates have to fill up the registration form expressing their Interest in joining the IISER or other participating institutes in preferetial order, along with the courses.

Q: Does IISER release the IAT cutoff?

Following the previous years' trends, the exam officials release the round-wise IISER institute-wise closing ranks. IAT cutoff marks refer to the minimum marks test takers need to score to get admission in the programmes offered by the participating institutes.

Q: What are the different channels for getting admission in IISER Colleges?

Earlier, there were three channels through which candidates could get admissions to the courses offered at IISER institutions, IISc Bangalore and IIT Madras. From the academic session 2025, admissions are done through the IAT exam channel only, and the other two channels, including JEE Main and KVPY scores, have been discontinued.

IISER Marks vs Rank is generally the data interpretation of the candidates who had appeared in the IAT examination. Here, candidates will be able to know the expected AIR rank/ category rank that they will achieve based on the marks scored by them in the IISER examination.

Q: What is seat acceptance structure in IISER 2026 counselling process?

Candidates allotted seats will have to download the seat allotment letter by logging in to the admission website with their registration credentials. The letter must be preserved till the admission formalities are completed. Candidates have to accept the offer sent to them only after they pay the prescribed seat acceptance fee (SAF) by the stipulated date and time. In case they don't pay the fee, the seat will be withdrawn.

Q: What is IISER Aptitude test?

Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research conduct an entrance exam in order to provide admission to candidates in the five year long BSMS dual degree programme offered by them. On the basis of a candidates score in the IISER Entrance Exam also known as IISER aptitude test, he/she can secure admission at IISER located in Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram, or Tirupati. Candidates who cleared their Class 12 in the Science stream are eligible to apply for the IISER Entrance Exam 2023. As per the IISER Entrance Exam pattern, there are a total of 60 objective questions that candidates need to complete in three hours duration.

Once the OTP is validated successfully, the pop-up will appear
