GATE 2026 Branch wise Exam Dates: IIT Guwahati has announced the exam dates and shifts for all 30 papers of GATE 2026. The exam will be held on February 7, 8, 14 and 15 in two shifts each day. The GATE 2026 exam date branch-wise can be checked on this page.
Candidates appearing in the exam must ensure they reach their test centre as per the date and time mentioned in admit card. Candidates must bring a printed copy of the GATE 2026 Admit Card on A4 paper to the exam for verification along with a valid original photo Identity Document, specified during the filling up of the online application. The Admit Card is valid if and only if the candidate's photograph and signature are clear. GATE 2026 Admit Card and Original ID proof are essential for entry into the examination centre.

Important Information for GATE Aspirants
Students appearing in GATE 2026 must follow the instructions given here
- All GATE papers will include two sections – Maths and General Aptitude beside the subject related section.
- All test papers of GATE 2026 will be of the duration of three hours consisting of 65 questions for a total of 100 marks. After the duration completes, the exam will terminate automatically.
- Candidates will be permitted to occupy their allotted seats 40 minutes before the scheduled start of the examination.
- Candidates can login and start reading the instructions 20 minutes before the start of examination.
- Candidate will NOT be permitted to login after 30 minutes from the scheduled start of the examination. Candidates will NOT be permitted to leave the examination hall before the scheduled end of the examination.
- The exam will have Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions. In MCQs, only one out of four options is correct. In MSQs, one or more than one out of four options is/are correct; and for NAT questions, the answer has to be written using a virtual keypad.
GATE 2026 Answer Key Date
The date for GATE answer key 2026 release is yet to be announced by IIT Guwahati. It is expected that the answer key will be released by March first week. Once available, candidates can download the same from GOAPS login using their registered email ID/enrollment number and password. Along with the answer key, GATE response sheet and official question papers will be also available for download.
Candidates can raise objections in the official GATE answer key if they’re not satisfied with the answers. For this, candidates will also need to submit proof supporting their claim/objection of answer key.
GATE 2026 Result Date
IIT Guwahati will announce the GATE result 2026 on March 19. The result will be released online on the GATE official website. Candidates will have to use GOAPS portal for checking their results. Candidates who will qualify the exam with marks above the cutoff will be issued GATE scorecard.

There are two shift timings for the GATE exam. Candidates can find the details of the shift timing on the official website. The GATE shift timings are as follows -
- Forenoon - 9:30 am to 12:30 pm
- Afternoon - 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm
Candidates can also find the exam timing details mentioned in the GATE admit card. Candidates are advised to appear for the GATE 2026 exam on the date prescribed in the hall ticket.

The PhD admissions to the Institute Assistantship courses at IIT Guwahati require candidates to appear for the GATE or CEED.
