Just a day after announcing that JEE Advanced 2018 will be conducted the online mode, JAB(Joint Admission Board) has now declared that it would be replacing MCQs(Multiple Choice Questions) with short answer type questions in the exam. With this, aspirants will need to key in the correct answers rather than just marking answers.
Till 2017, JEE Advanced comprised of only MCQs where students would choose a single answer out of the four answer bubbles on the OMR sheets which was later evaluated by machines.
According to officials, introducing an online exam will give aspirants the access to keyboards. This way, they would be able to provide correct answers through calculations if need arises. In the current JEE Advanced exam pattern, exam takers often concentrated more on eliminating the wrong option rather than working out the right answer. A transition from MCQs to short answer type questions will reduce these opportunities.

With this, JEE Advanced 2018 exam pattern is set to change and be different as compared to previous years. As of now, there is no particular way of framing questions. However, now people setting the questions will have the liberty to introduce a variety of questions to challenge aspirants. The idea is to make examinees think harder and not just only depend on the techniques or memorisation to solve questions. JEE Advanced 2018 will have more of concept based questions.
