JEE Advanced 2020: The admission criteria for Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have been relaxed, announced the Union Minister of Human Resource Development Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ on Twitter.
In his tweet, the HRD minister said that apart from qualifying the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced, the mandatory eligibility to score a minimum of 75% aggregate in class XII board has been revoked.

Earlier, it was must for students to score a minimum of 75 percent aggregate marks in the Class XII board exams or ranked in the top 20 percentile in their qualifying examinations to be eligible for IIT admissions.
The MHRD has taken the step after the cancellation of several board exams due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the country. Due to the cancellation of exams, even bright students may have scored lesser marks, thus, the Joint Admission Board (JAB) has relaxed the criterion of 75% aggregate.

The HRD Minister tweeted: “For admissions to IITs, apart from qualifying the JEE (Advanced), the eligibility was to secure either a minimum score of 75% marks in class XII Board exams or rank among the top 20 percentile in their qualifying examinations. Due to the partial cancellation of class XII exams by several Boards, Joint Admission Board (JAB) has decided to relax the eligibility criterion for JEE (Advanced), 2020 qualified candidates, this time.”
“Qualified candidates who have passed class XII examinations will now be eligible for admissions irrespective of marks obtained,” he further added.
JEE Advanced is annually for admission to various undergraduate Engineering, Science and Architecture courses in 23 IITs. Applicants have to qualify the JEE Main first.

The JEE Advanced last round closing rank was 1434. Students with a valid JEE Advanced rank need to participate in the JoSAA round for admission to BTech in CSE course.

No, you can get admission at IIT Goa with a rank of 20,000 if you belong to the General AI category. For this category, the maximum rank accepted was 14290 for the BTech in Mechanical Engineering course. Hence, General AI category students need a rank of at least 14290 to be eligble for admission. C

You are not eligible for JEE (Advanced) 2027 because your first appearance for Class 12 was in 2025. For JEE (Advanced) 2027 candidates must have taken their Class 12 (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2026 or 2027. Since your first appearance was in 2025 you fall outside this
