As the CBSE 12 Board exams have been postponed in the wake of rising Covid cases, various students appearing for the JEE Main April and May sessions have demanded the postponement of the JEE Main 2021 citing health risks posed by the pandemic.
The JEE Main 2021 will be held from April 27 to April 30 and later between May 24 and 28.
Will JEE Main April 2021 be postponed?
Shiksha spoke with some of the JEE Main aspirants to know their viewpoint on whether the JEE Main 2021 should be deferred or not.

Aryaman Mohan, an aspirant, said, “Considering the current Covid situation in the country, the authorities should either postpone the exam or ensure more exam centres so that social distancing can be maintained. The authorities should first consult the students before taking any decision because ultimately, they are ones who have to take the exam.”
He said, “I took my previous JEE attempt in February, which went well. Since I will now appear for both April and May sessions, I hope the conducting authority takes all necessary measures as per the Covid guidelines as the situation has gone from bad to worse.”
Ishan Bhargava Dubey, a JEE aspirant who has tested positive for Covid, said, “I have already tested positive for the virus and do not want to put other students, who will come to take the exam, at risk. The exam should either be postponed or conducted in online mode. This way everybody can perform better without worrying about contracting coronavirus.”
Rashi Gupta, one of the aspirants, said, “Health is more important than exams. Please postpone JEE Main (April) for the safety of students.”
The topic has also created a buzz on the social media. Many students took to Twitter asking Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal to defer the exam due to the record spike in the Covid-19 cases.
Aniruddha Sharma, an aspirant, tweeted, “Respected @DrRPNishank ji , I request you to please postpone the JEE Mains April & May 2021. As the situation is not conducive outside and Covid-19 cases are surging daily. Please postpone the exam.”
#jeemains2021postpone #postponejee2021
Gaurang Sharma echoed similar concerns, “#cbseboardexams2021 I am still surprised that no one is talking about JEE mains April Attempt which is nearest. I know postponement will cause competition but I am worried about current situation of #COVIDSecondWave . If it’s possible then #postponejee2021.
Kritika, another aspirant, tweeted, “Actually more than 2lakh cases in a day..check worldometer..govt should seriously think about postponing jee mains.” @DrRPNishank @EduMinOfIndia
JEE Main is the entrance gateway to UG courses, including BE, BTech at IIITs, NITs, and several other colleges. Those who clear JEE Main and make it to the top 2.5 lakh ranks are also selected for JEE Advanced, an entrance exam for IIT admissions.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has already conducted the JEE Main February and March sessions and declared the results of both exams. Though there is no official statement on the postponement of the JEE Main April session by the NTA, nearly six lakh students are expected to appear for the engineering entrance exam.

Guru Nanak Institute of Technology accepts JEE Main scores for admission in BTech programme. However, it is not compulsory. Aspirants with WBJEE or CE-AMPAI scores can also get admission in BTech provided they also meet the eligibility criteria.

Students who gave the JEE Main session 2 exam and want to take admission at IITs should start preparing for the JEE Advanced exam. Students with a more than 98th percentile should start to study for the JEE Advanced exam.
Those who have secured a percentile between 95th and 98th should focus more on

With a JEE Main percentile of 90.94 and CRL rank ~1.4 Lacs (female, general category), you have realistic chances in mid-tier NITs (later rounds), state government colleges, and strong private universities in Tamil Nadu and Bangalore for ECE/EEE. Top NITs/IIITs are unlikely, but good regional option

With a JEE Main 2026 rank of 400,510 (≈ 70 percentile), admission to NITs, IIITs, or top GFTIs through JoSAA counseling is not possible.
Why?

With a JEE Main CRL rank of ~79,364 and an EWS category rank of ~11,884, you have a realistic chance of securing CSE in several mid-tier NITs, newer IIITs, and some GFTIs. Top NITs (Trichy, Surathkal, Warangal, Allahabad) are out of reach, but options like NIT Jalandhar, NIT Hamirpur, IIIT Kota, III
