The delay in announcement of new JEE Main 2021 exam dates is because of the late announcement of class 12 exam schedule of states which have not canceled their board exams. NTA was in talk with all such states to provide the schedule at the earliest. The new schedule of the JEE Main 2021 phase 3 and 4 exam has been announced as soon as the NTA gets board exam dates. This is to ensure that JEE Main and board exam dates do not clash and students get enough time in between their board exams and JEE.
The JEE Main 2021 phase 3 and 4 exams were earlier scheduled to be conducted in April and May respectively. NTA had to postpone the exam due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The first two phases of JEE Main has been successfully conducted in February and March.
Around 10 lakh students are registered for appearing in the phase 3 and 4 exam. The number is likely to go up as NTA will also be opening the JEE Main registration for the phase 4 exam. More than 11 lakh students were registered for the first two phases of JEE Main 2021.
