After passing Class X with a score of 9.4 CGPA, I chose Science subject. I got 75.4% in Class XII exams. At the time of college admission, initially I was not interested in any branch of Engineering whether it was Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or any other. I was totally free to select any course.
With a score of 82 in JEE Main I couldn't hope for tier 1 colleges. I also appeared for Anna University entrance exam and got Rank 16. But I started my search for colleges having low fee structure.
How I chose my college
Explore colleges based on JEE Main
I found that HNBGU (Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University) is a central university offering BTech and its fee for one semester is Rs 11,000. Then I switched to the placement part. But soon I realised that it totally depends on me. Work load is minimum here and the professors are good. I came to know about class duration from a senior who told me that there were only 2-3 classes daily. That was all I wanted and participated in counselling.
Quickly moving to the counselling part, this college is in Uttarakhand so I had to reach Haridwar first and then I travelled to Srinagar (Garhwal) by bus. Location of the university is amazing and environment is excellent here.
My college life
I attend classes daily. Professors are excellent and knowledgeable. It is a central university so you do not have to worry about facilities. Hostel fee is around Rs 170 (rent) per month. And, the best part is that extracurricular activities in the university have wide scope because every student is free to attend or participate in any of the activity. Extracurricular activities are organised by every department (since it's a university). You will find one or more auditorium schedule every month.

Students who gave the JEE Main session 2 exam and want to take admission at IITs should start preparing for the JEE Advanced exam. Students with a more than 98th percentile should start to study for the JEE Advanced exam.
Those who have secured a percentile between 95th and 98th should focus more on

With a JEE Main percentile of 90.94 and CRL rank ~1.4 Lacs (female, general category), you have realistic chances in mid-tier NITs (later rounds), state government colleges, and strong private universities in Tamil Nadu and Bangalore for ECE/EEE. Top NITs/IIITs are unlikely, but good regional option

With a JEE Main 2026 rank of 400,510 (≈ 70 percentile), admission to NITs, IIITs, or top GFTIs through JoSAA counseling is not possible.
Why?

With a JEE Main CRL rank of ~79,364 and an EWS category rank of ~11,884, you have a realistic chance of securing CSE in several mid-tier NITs, newer IIITs, and some GFTIs. Top NITs (Trichy, Surathkal, Warangal, Allahabad) are out of reach, but options like NIT Jalandhar, NIT Hamirpur, IIIT Kota, III
