The decision follows a request from the Meghalaya government, which highlighted the logistical and financial difficulties students faced in traveling to Assam for the CUET UG examination
In a major relief for students in Meghalaya, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the relocation of most CUET UG 2025 exam centres from Guwahati to Shillong. The decision follows a request from the Meghalaya government, which highlighted the logistical and financial difficulties students faced in traveling to Assam for the examination.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma shared the update on X (formerly Twitter) on March 24, thanking NTA officials and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for their support. The change comes after the Chief Minister's appeal to the Ministry of Education and NTA on March 17, emphasizing the need for local examination centres to ease students’ burden.
Chief Minister's Appeal for CUET UG Exam Centers and Response
On March 17, Sangma had tweeted: "Requested @EduMinOfIndia & @NTA_Exams to intervene in allotting #CUET examination centres within Meghalaya for our students. Many students are being assigned Guwahati centres, causing inconvenience. Hopeful that the issue will be resolved. @dpradhanbjp.”
Following NTA’s decision, he posted an update on March 24: "Happy that NTA has shifted most of the students of Meghalaya from Guwahati centre to Shillong centre after the intervention of the State Government. Thank the officials of NTA and Hon’ble @dpradhanbjp ji for his continuous support and understanding."
CUET UG 2025 Exam
The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG is a pivotal examination for undergraduate admissions across central, state, and several private universities in India. Conducted by the NTA, the exam standardizes the admission process, offering students a single-window opportunity to apply for multiple institutions. With the growing number of participating universities, CUET UG has become one of the most significant entrance tests in India, determining admission to prestigious higher education institutions.
Addressing Students’ Concerns
The initial allocation of exam centres outside Meghalaya sparked widespread concern, particularly among students from remote areas who would have faced travel and accommodation challenges. Several student organizations, along with the state education department, advocated for local examination centres within the state. The state government’s intervention played a crucial role in ensuring students could take their exams closer to home.
Candidates will be able to check the CUET 2026 allotted exam centre upon release of CUET intimation slip and CUET admit card. Only candidates who will fill the CUET application form along with the successful application fee payment will be able to download the intimation slip for CUET exam. The name of exam centre will be mentioned on the intimation alip in advance to help candidates make preparations accordingly. The CUET 2026 admit card is expected to release three to four days prior to the day of examination in online mode. Candidates will be able to check the following details on the release of CUET 2026 admit card:
- Name of the candidate
- Registration number
- Category
- Location
- Date of exam
- Time of exam
- Exam centre name & address

- Instructions related to the exam
Candidates must note that the CUET exam centre once allotted, no request for change in exam centre will be entertained under any circumstances. Candidates are advised to carefully enter the exam centre preference while filling the CUET 2026 application form.
CUET UG 2026 datesheet will be released soon after the registration process is over. Candidates can check their CUET 2026 exam schedule on their intimation slip or admit card also. CUET UG 2026 exam will be held in CBT mode. Last year, NTA did not release the official CUET examination schedule, however, candidates can check the schedule for applied subjects on their admit cards, when released. Candidates can know the CUET subject wise slots, exam dates and timings.
Following the relocation, students can now prepare for CUET UG 2025 with greater peace of mind, avoiding the inconvenience of long-distance travel. The move reflects NTA’s responsiveness to regional concerns and the Meghalaya government’s commitment to addressing students’ needs.
The CUET UG 2025 exam is scheduled to be conducted in May, and students can check their updated examination centres on the official NTA website.
