JEE Main 2023: Students say if JEE Main first session is held in April, they will be able to focus on both CBSE and engineering entrance exam.
Though Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2023 exam dates have not been announced so far, there are reports that JEE Main 2023 session 1 is likely to be held in January and session 2 in April 2023. This has left hundreds of students in a fix because if the first session is held in January, it will clash with CBSE board practicals. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 10 and Class 12 theory exams will begin in mid-February and practical exams will be held in January-February.
Shiksha.com talked to a few students who are appearing in JEE Main 2023 to know their preference for JEE Main 2023 exam schedule. Here’s what they have to say.
- ‘Hold JEE Main 2023 in April’
- ‘JEE Main should not clash with CBSE practicals’
- No issue with JEE Main in January
- ‘Hope JEE Main exam dates are set in April’
- NTA to soon publish the JEE Main 2023 notification
‘Hold JEE Main 2023 in April’
Abhimanyu Goyal, a JEE Main aspirant, said, “CBSE has already announced that Class 12 practicals will start in January and board exams will start from February 15, 2023. Both Class 12 board exams and JEE Main are important for our future. It would be good if JEE Main first session is held in April and not in January. With this, we will be able to focus on both exams.”

‘JEE Main should not clash with CBSE practicals’
Echoing similar concerns, Sanya Gupta, who is taking coaching for the engineering entrance exam from a private institute in Panchkula, said, “There are only two JEE Main sessions next year. If we miss the first, the second will be our only chance of making it. I want that JEE Main 2023 first session should be conducted in April as we have our CBSE practical exams in January. Moreover, JEE Main 2023 in January will not give us enough time for revision.”
NTA releases JEE Main 2025 Session 2 Exam city intimation slip in March. JEE Main Session 2 City Intimation Slip 2025 is available for download on the JEE Main official website jeemain.nta.nic.in. To download the JEE Mains exam city intimation slip, candidates need to login on the website using their application number and date of birth. Candidates can check the JEE Main 2026 exam date allotted to them on their city intimation slip and JEE Main admit card. Candidates have to download the city intimation slip and admit card from the official website as per the schedule
No issue with JEE Main in January
Anirudh Goyal said, “I am ok with the JEE Main 2023 first attempt in January. Though the syllabus for board exams and JEE Main is same, the syllabus of JEE Main demands in-depth knowledge of concepts that can only be acquired with regular practice. The National Testing Agency (NTA) should declare the exam dates soon so that we can plan accordingly.”
‘Hope JEE Main exam dates are set in April’
Piyush Kanda from Chandigarh said, “I have completed my JEE Main syllabus and now I am focusing on the revision part. I am hoping that JEE Main exam dates are scheduled for April and not in January. This way we will get enough time to prepare for JEE Main.”
JEE Main 2022 Session 1 was held from June 20 to June 29, 2022, and Session 2 was conducted from July 21 to July 30, 2022. Around 9 lakh students appeared for the JEE Main examination this year.

NTA will soon publish the JEE Main 2023 notification on nta.ac.in. After that, students will be able to apply for the exam on jeemain.nta.nic.in. The exam will be held in two sessions. If one appears in both sessions, the best out of the two scores will be considered for ranking.
The first session exam was conducted on January 22, 23, 24, 28 and 29, 2025 (Paper 1), and January 30, 2025 (Paper 2). The second session of JEE Mains was held from April 1 to 8, 2025. The JEE Main 2025 exam date for sessions 1 and 2 can be checked on the website jeemain.nta.nic.in.
