NEET Counselling 2026: The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will conduct the NEET UG 2026 counselling after the announcement of result. The MCC NEET counselling 2026 will be held for MBBS, BDS, Dental, BAMS, BSMS, BUMS and BHMS courses. The NEET Counselling by MCC is conducted to fill 15 per cent All India Quota (AIQ) seats across the country. The counselling for the other 85 per cent of the medical seats will be conducted by the state counselling authorities.

The MCC NEET counselling dates 2026 will be shared here when announced. The MCC will conduct around four to five rounds of NEET counselling 2026. Each round will be of 10 to 15 days duration. The counselling process involves release of seat matrix, registration form, choice filling and locking, seat allotment result and institute reporting. 

The NTA NEET 2026 exam is scheduled on May 3, 2026.

NEET UG Counselling 2026 Overview

The NEET counselling is held for admissions to undergraduate Medical/ Dental/ Ayurveda/ Siddha/ Unani/ Homoeopathy courses. The registration, choice filling and seat allotment result are carried out in online mode. The last step, or the institute reporting process is held offline. Candidaes need to be physically present at the allotted institute to complete the admission process. There are around four to fove rounds of NEET counselling based on the number of seats. The central and state counselling processes of NEET are conducted by 15 per cent All India Quota (AIQ) seats for admission to MBBS, BDS and BSc Nursing courses at Central and Deemed Universities, AIIMS, JIPMER and AFMC institutes. On the other hand, the 85 per cent state quota seats for medical admission are conducted by the State Authorities for admission to state medical colleges.

NEET Counselling Registration 2026: How to Register?

Candidates can register for NEET UG 2026 counselling in the given manner.

  • Visit the MCC website– mcc.nic.in.

  • Click on the ‘New Registration 2026’ tab.

  • Read the instructions.

  • Enter the details such as NEET UG roll number, parent’s name, date of birth and security code.

  • Select the password.

  • The credentials will be generated and sent to the registered email address.

  • Complete the registration form by entering personal, educational, NEET 2026 result and other details and uploading scanned photograph and signature.

  • Pay the registration fee and take a printout of the registration page.

NEET UG Counselling 2026: Documents Required for Institute Reporting

The NEET UG counselling is conducted in two ways: for the 15 per cent All India Quota seats and 85 per cent State Quota seats. While MCC conducts the counselling process for the AIQ seats, State Counselling authorities conduct the NEET State Counselling process. Candidates allotted seats in the NEET Counselling need to report to the allocated institute for confirmation. During the institute reporting, candidates need to carry the given documents-

  • NEET 2026 Admit Card
  • NEET scorecard
  • Class 10 mark sheet and certificate
  • Class 12 mark sheet and certificate
  • Valid, non-expired and government-issued photo ID proof
  • Six to eight passport-sized photographs (preferably the same as the one submitted with the NEET 2026 application form)
  • Caste Certificate (if applicable)
  • Disability Certificate (if applicable)
  • Provisional allotment letter

*Candidates have to carry both original and photocopies of the above-mentioned documents for the institute reporting or document verification rounds.

NEET Counselling Seat Matrix 2026

The MCC will release the seat matrix for the NEET UG counselling 2026 separately for each round. Candidates must go through the seat matrix and then register online. There will be four to five rounds of NEET 2026 counselling, which are as follows:

NEET Counselling 2026 Eligibility Criteria

To participate in the NEET UG 2026 counselling, students need to fulfil the eligibility requirements notified by the MCC. Have a look at the NEET Counselling eligibility below-

  • Candidates must qualify the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) by obtaining the cutoff marks.
  • Candidates must be registered on the official website of MCC.
  • All candidates, including candidates from the UT of J&K, can participate in the counselling for AIQ seats and deemed universities.

NEET Counselling 2026 Eligibility Criteria for Central Universities 

The following table mentions the eligibility criteria for the Central Universities and the seat scheme.

Delhi University (MAMC, LHMC, UCMS) 15% of seats of the colleges affiliated with the Delhi University Candidates who have passed Class 11 and Class 12 from an institute located in Delhi will be able to apply for these 85% seats
Faculty of Dentistry, Jamia Millia Islamia The institute offers 50 BDS seats, out of which 47 seats will be filled through the MCC NEET counselling. The remaining three seats fall under the institutional quota. The institutional quota seats will be allotted to only those candidates who have passed Class 11 and Class 12 from JMI institutes
Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) The institute reserves 50 per cent of its seats. The remaining 50 per cent will be filled through the MCC counselling of NEET. Candidates who have studied at AMU for the past three years can opt for institutional quota.
Banaras Hindu University (BHU) 15% seats  All candidates who fulfil the basic eligibility criteria for NEET MCC counselling can apply for the seats at BHU. There is no special requirement for applying to this institute. 

NEET Reservation 2026 in AIQ Seats

The Government of India has implemented 27 per cent OBC reservation (Non-Creamy Layer) and 10 per cent EWS reservation in 15 per cent Under Graduate (UG) All India Quota seats (MBBS/BDS) (contributed by the State/UTs to the Central Pool) in the selection of candidates through NEET UG counselling for MBBS.

NEET 2026 Counselling Process

Candidates who clear the NEET 2026 exam and want to participate in the counselling process for the AIQ seats in Deemed Universities/ Central Universities/ ESIC colleges need to register online. The process of NEET 2026 counselling is explained in detail below-

Registration

Candidates need to register for the NEET counselling for each round. The registration process is completely online. Candidates must visit the MCC website to complete the process and pay the fee in online mode using net banking, credit or debit card and UPI. 

Choice filling

  • After completing the registration process, candidates should fill their choices on the MCC portal.
  • Choose the course/ college in the desired order of preference.
  • Fill in any number of choices from the list provided.
  • Add or delete a choice.
  • Submit and save a copy of the choices filled for future reference.

Choice Locking

The next process is to lock the choices submitted in the registration form. The choices once locked cannot be changed later, even by the MCC.

Verification by Universities and Processing of Seat Allotment

The universities and colleges will verify the details and choices submitted by candidates. Accordingly, the seat allotment result will be released.

Seat Allotment Result

MCC releases the seat allotment result for candidates who register and submit their choices. First, a provisional result is published and candidates can submit objections against it. After the analysis of objections, the final seat allotment list is released.

Institute Reporting

Candidates allocated seats will have to report to the institute for verification of documents and confirmation of the seat. If any candidate accepts the seat that is allocated to them but fail to report to the allocated institute before the given deadline, their candidature will be cancelled. 

The seats left vacant after the first round will be carried forward to the second round. However, the seats left vacant after the last round of NEET counselling 2026 will be transferred to the respective state quota. The seats left vacant in the AIQ quota of Deemed Universities/ Central Universities/ ESIC colleges will be filled through a mop-up round of NEET 2026 counselling. The remaining seats (if any) will be filled in the institutional round/stray round.

NEET 2026 Counselling Result

MCC will release the NEET 2026 counselling result or seat allotment result in online mode, after the completion of the choice filling and locking process. The NEET counselling result is released in PDF format. At first, the provisional result is announced, and candidates are given a chance to submit grievances online through email, after which the final result is declared.

How to Resign NEET 2026 Counselling Allotted Seats?

Candidates need to use the process shared below to resign from the NEET 2026 counselling Round 2 seats-

  • Visit the counselling website – mcc.nic.in.
  • Click on the New Registration 2026 tab.
  • Login with the registration credentials.
  • Click on the Seat Resignation link.
  • Confirm and resign your seat.
  • Click on save.
  • Download and keep the seat resignation confirmation page until you are finally admitted to a state quota seat.

“Candidates are advised to ensure that their Resignation Letter is generated online (through the portal provided by MCC) by the allotted college, failing which the resignation will be treated as ‘Null & Void’,” MCC has stated.

As mentioned earlier, NEET UG counselling for 15 per cent AIQ quota seats is conducted by MCC. The remaining 85 per cent of seats are filled through the state counselling for the NEET UG process of the respective state. Read the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding NEET 2026 Counselling. 

Q:   If I get an up-graded seat during second round of NEET counselling, can I join that college directly?
A: 

No, you will have to get online generated relieving letter from the earlier institute, before you join the next college. Without such relieving letter, candidates will not be permitted to join the seat allotted in round 2. Upgradation is applicable for only those candidates who have joined allotted seat of first round and submit willingness for upgradation.

Q:   Can NEET candidates participate in more than one state counselling?
A: 

Yes, it is possible to participate in two state-level NEET counselling processes simultaneously. They may participate in the MCC NEET counselling or the national level counselling as well. However, once they are allotted a seat and they take admission, they will not be eligible to participate in other state or national level counselling processes. Moreover, if a candidate does not belong to a particular state, then he or she have to participate in NRI quota.  

Q:   In case my documents or certificates are in a regional language, will it be acceptable at the time of NEET counselling institute reporting?
A: 

According to Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), the authority for NEET counselling, certificates issued by the competent authority on standard format, should be in English or Hindi language. Some of the states insist for certificate in English language only. Candidates are advised to carry certified  (attested) Copy of English version of the original certificate, in case certificate
issued is in other than English language, along with original certificate. 

Q:   Is there any restriction for filling up number of choices of institutes and courses during the NEET counselling process?
A: 

No, there is no limit in terms of entering the number of institutes and courses during the choice filling rounds of the NEET counselling process. Candidates can give as many choices as they wish for during online choice filling round. However choices should be in order of candidates' preference. According to the Medical Counselling Committee or MCC, There will be common software for AIQ, Deemed, Central Universities, B.Sc. Nursing, AIIMS, JIPMER, AMU, BHU for filling up choices. Also, there is no separate charge for choice filling. Candidates must also note that only filling choices is not enough, they must lock the choices within the stipulated date after verifying the choices and the preference order.

Q:   After I join a college allotted during the Second Round of NEET UG Counseling, can I leave or resign the seat?
A: 

Once a candidate joins second round seat allotted in the NEET UG counselling, he/she will not be allowed to vacate from the allotted second round seat. However if candidates are allotted a seat in Second Round and have not joined the college, then he/she can Exit with Forfeiture of security amount. Moreover, the candidates who have joined up to round 2 of AIQ or state quota will not be eligible to participate in the further rounds of AIQ or state quota.

Q:   If I opt to participate in second round of NEET UG counseling, will my allotted seat of first round be cancelled?
A: 

In case candidates are not allotted any seat in the second round of the NEET UG counselling, the earlier allotted seat in Round 1 will be retained. However, on up-gradation of a seat in the second round, the earlier allotted seat in Round 1 will automatically be cancelled and allotted to another candidate. Therefore, candidates are advised to fill in only higher choices or any other choice which they prefer over the earlier allotted seat, for second round.

Q:   What are the courses for which NEET counselling process is conducted?
A: 

The NEET counselling process conducted for the 15 per cent All India Quota (AIQ) seats will be conducted primarily for the MBBS, BDS and BSc Nursing courses. For the State NEET counselling rounds, the courses for admission are MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BUMS and BHMS courses. Some of the State NEET UG Counselling authorities also conduct admission for the Allied Courses such as BPTH, BoTH, BNYS, BASLP, etc. The courses may vary from state to state, but the MBBS and BDS courses are common all across. For the 15 per cent AIQ seats, the NEET counselling for B.A.MS, BUMS and BHMS courses are conducted separately by the requisite department and authorities, which is the Ayush Admissions Central Counselling Committee (AACCC).

Q:   What is the significance of the NEET seat matrix?
A: 

Seat matrix for NEET counselling is important for choice filling process. Before filling and locking seat choices for each round of NEET counselling, candidates must go through seat matrix or seat vacancy and then enter their choices. MCC releases seat matrix prior to commencement of counselling process. This is overall seat matrix for all four rounds of counselling. Candidates participating in Round 1 NEET counselling will have to choose from entire gamut of seats. From second round onwards, seat matrix is released in terms of newly added seats and clear and virtual vacancies. With each round of counselling, number of available seats or vacant seats reduces. 

Q:   What is the eligibility criteria to participate in Karnataka NEET Counselling?
A: 

Candidates need to fulfill the eligibility shared below to participate in the Karnataka NEET UG Counselling-

  • Qualify NEET UG exam by obtaining the cutoff marks.
  • Register on the KEA website.
  • Submit the choices of colleges.
