NO, it is compulsory to attempt all questions in the JEE Main exam. The JEE Main exam has negative marking and candidates must answer only those questions for which they know the correct answer. Students must note that there are no minimum marks in JEE Main that students need to score. Students gets All India Rank based on the marks they secure in exam and gets admission based on that rank.
There are two question types in JEE Main exam. Multiple choice questions and numerical ability questions. In MCQ, every question has 4 options with only 1 correct answer. Select the correct option. In numerical ability question type, no options are there. Solve them and write answer using keyword and mouse.

It is advised that students should solve at least previous 10 year question papers of JEE Main. However, the exam pattern as well as difficulty level of JEE Mains has underwent a lot of changes during the last 10 years but still solving previous year JEE Main question papers from last 10 years will definitely help in scoring the good marks in the exam. As new type of questions (Questions with Numerical Value Answer) were intrduced recently, students are advised to practice solving these type of questions to help solve it during the actual exam.
Chapterwise weightage of class 11 and 12 topics in JEE Main are mentioned below:
- Physics: Current Electricity Waves AC, Magnetism, Laws of Motion Work, Power and Energy.
- Chemistry the high weightage topics are s and p block elements, Coordination compounds, Thermodynamics Gaseous state, Chemical bonding, Atomic structure, Polymers, Environmental Chemistry Organic Chemistry.
- Mathematics, the high weightage topics are Sequence and Series Vectors and 3D, Integral and Differential Calculus, Definite and Indefinite Integral.

How to Use JEE Main JEE Main Answer Key to Calculate Score?
To calculate scores using the JEE Main answer key, candidates can use the steps below:
- Download the answer key of JEE Main 2022.
- Now crosscheck the answers in the key with that of the responses submitted by you in the exam.
- If the answer matches then add 4 marks. If not then deduct 1 marks.
- Follow the process and calculate the total score.
Or simply put the number of correct answers and the number of incorrect answers in the formula below:
JEE Main 2022 raw score = 4 X number of correct answers - 1 X number of wrong answers
Note, that the scores that are fetched after using the answer key are the raw score. NTA will convert the raw score to percentile scores for the All India Rank, cutoff and final marks.

JEE Main 2022 Cutoff
JEE Main 2022 cutoff means the minimum marks candidates need to obtain to sit for JEE Advanced. NAT release this cutoff after the final session of JEE Main 2022 is over. The cutoff marks vary category-wise. The cutoff marks will be the minimum percentile marks needed. This year the top 2,50,000 candidates in JEE Main 2022, will be able to register for JEE Advanced.
JEE Main 2022 Result
JEE Main 2022 result date for the session is yet to be announced. Candidates can check the result online at jeemain.nta.nic.in. JEE Main scorecard will have the details of the candidate's normalised percentile score in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and aggregate percentile score of all three subjects. Note that the All India Rank of the candidates will be based on the best performance of the candidates out of both sessions. Therefore the AIR will be available after the July sessions exams end with the final result.
