There is no harm in attempting JEE mains again, provided you really know where you went wrong and by what margin your score was below the expected cut-off. If the score is very low in your first attempt then a second one may not boost your score dramatically. However, one must not lose hope and can still give a good shot for the second attempt.

There is no doubt about Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) being one of the best premier institutes for higher education. Hence, it is natural for everyone to aspire for a high score in JEE Mains to get a seat into these coveted institutions. However, one must also realise that there are a limited number of seats for getting into IITs and everyone does not get admission into these premium institutes. Having said that you should not brood over your results if your score is low, in fact, it’s time to look for opportunities and retrospection. Let’s have a look at some of them.

Try next year

There is no one correct answer for this as I have known people who take a year off for preparing for JEE and have succeeded in cracking the exam. However, before you do this it is important for you to analyse what were the factors responsible for your low score. In my opinion, it is better to look for alternative colleges rather than take a year off for preparation. This is because a year gap will invite a lot of questions by the selection panel for future admissions into the colleges. Besides, if you are not able to clear JEE Main in the second attempt it may have an effect on your morale as well. So make a risk assessment based on your strengths, situation, etc. and then make a decision. The choice is up to you to make.

Get admission to other successful colleges

I would not like to suggest any particular colleges but you can look through multiple colleges on any popular platforms such as Shiksha.com. There are many colleges that conduct their own entrance examinations. This would be a good opportunity for you to crack the exam as your JEE preparation would benefit you tremendously. Besides if you have a good Class 12th score, you can get accepted in some reputed colleges with some scholarship as well. You can get all these inquiries through an appropriate search.

Subsequent counselling sessions

This depends on what college and specialisation you want. If you are not getting your specialisation in a top college you can either take the available specialisation or wait for subsequent sessions to look for other colleges. Again, there is so straight answer to this. The decision has to be made only after considering all the factors. Some of the factors you can consider while choosing a specialization are demand in the market, availability of jobs, the reputation of the college, etc.

Attempt JEE Mains again in May

There is no harm in attempting JEE mains again, provided you really know where you went wrong and by what margin your score was below the expected cut-off. If the score is very low in your first attempt then a second one may not boost your score dramatically. However, one must not lose hope and can still give a good shot for the second attempt.
