IIM Shortlist 2022: Check Cut Offs, Shortlist and Final Admission Status of all IIMs

Check institute-wise IIM shortlist and admission dates for MBA admission 2022. Read to know all about IIM shortlist and final admission announcement.

IIM Shortlist 2022 - The 20 Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) campuses have begun shortlisting of candidates for PGP/MBA admission 2022 from January 6 with IIM Kozhikode opening the application process for PI shortlisting. IIM Visakhapatnam started PI shortlisting on January 11, whereas IIM Calcutta and IIM Amritsar started the process on January 12. IIM Bangalore released the PI shortlist on January 16. IIM Trichy started IIM CAP registrations on January 19, whereas IIM Lucknow started the shortlisting process on January 21 and IIM Nagpur started on January 31. IIM Ahmedabad sent letters to candidates in mind January and activated the shortlist form link on its website on February 3. IIM Shillong too commenced the shortlisting process soon after.

The final IIM admission lists will be released by the institutes by the end of May. The IIM CAP participating institutes will released their final admission list by the last week of May. Candidates will be informed about their selection via email. The IIM shortlisting process includes online application submission by candidates for Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) and selection of candidates for the same based on their CAT 2021 result and academic record. Candidates have to fill the shortlist forms to participate in WAT-PI using their CAT login IDs. The WAT-PI round was conducted online in April.  Given below is the table indicating the status of IIM shortlists for WAT-GD-PI round for MBA admission 2022.

IIM Shortlisting and Selection Process 2022

The IIM shortlisting and selection process for MBA admission includes three stages.

Stage 1: Shortlisting of candidates on the basis of their CAT exam score

Once the CAT result is announced, the candidates are asked to apply for WAT/GD-PI round by each IIM on its official website basis their CAT score vs CAT cut offs.

Stage 2: Screening of candidates for WAT-GD-PI

In the second stage, the institute shortlists the candidates who applied for WAT-GD-PI on the basis of their CAT score and academic record, and send then WAT-GD-PI invite.

Stage 3: Calculation of Composite Score and Final Selection

In the third stage, the composite score of each candidate is calculated on the basis of parameters such as CAT score, WAT-PI performance, academic history, work experience, diversity, etc. to finalise their selection.

  • Marksheets of Class 10, Class 12 and Graduation (original and self-attested photocopies). 
  • Caste/class and/or disability certificate in case of SC, ST, NC-OBC and PwD candidates (original and self-attested photocopies).
  • Candidates appearing for the final year bachelor's degree (or equivalent) examination must show a certificate from the Principal/Registrar/Director of the university/institution certifying that he/she has obtained a minimum of 50 per cent aggregate or equivalent (45 per cent in case of the candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PwD category) in the latest available grades/marks.

Q: What is IIM Shortlist?

A: IIM shortlist can be defined as the list of CAT test takers who make it to the second phase of IIM admission process, which is WAT-PI. The IIM shortlist is the list of candidates who are eligible to participate in the WAT-PI rounds of IIMs.

Q: When is IIM Shortlist released?

A: IIM shortlist of top IIMs is released in the first week of January soon after CAT result declaration. All IIMs release their shortlist one by one after that in the same month. For 2022 admissions, all IIMs have released the shortlists.

Q: Which IIM has highest cut off for MBA 2022 admission?

A: IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta have the highest CAT cut off. Every year, the cut off percentiles of these three top IIMs hover around 99-100 percentile.

Q: What is waitlist in IIM?

A: IIM waitlist means the number students kept waiting for second shortlist. Those who are kept in the waitlist are invited for WAT-PI if there are seats remaining to be filled after WAT-PI round of the first batch of the students.

Q: How can I check my status in IIM shortlist?

A: The candidates can check their admission status in IIM shortlist of each institute on their respective websites. The IIMs releases their shortlist on different days from January to March. Once the shortlist is announced, candidates can check their status on the institute’s website by using their CAT login ID.

Q: What if I do not make it to IIM shortlist? Do I still stand a chance to get admission?

A: No, the students who don’t make it to the IIM shortlist of a particular year, they will not be considered for admission. Such candidates can appear for CAT again the next year and try for admission.

Q: How is IIM shortlist prepared by the institutes?

A: IIM shortlist is prepared on the basis of CAT cut off, class 10 score, class 12 score, graduation score. To encourage diversity in the classroom the IIMs award extra points to female and transgender candidates.

Q: What if I have a very good CAT score but poor academic record?

A: If you have a very good CAT score but poor academic record it is quite likely that you may not be shortlisted for top IIMs as the institutes prefer candidates with overall consistency in academics.

Q: How much weightage does CAT score have in IIM shortlist?

A: CAT exam score has the weightage of about 40-60 per cent in IIM shortlist. The weightage varies for each IIM but is in the range of 40-60 per cent.

Q: Do I need to apply to IIM again after being shortlisted for WAT-PI?

A: After being shortlisted for WAT-PI candidates have to fill an online form expressing interest in participating in the WAT-PI round. The forms of all IIMs are to be filled individually except for those who fall under IIM CAP.

Q: When is the final admission result of IIM shortlist announced?

A: The final IIM admission result after IIM shortlist and WAT-PI is announced in April and May for all 20 IIMs. All the institutes released the final list of selected candidates and send them admission letter on different dates.
