How to Calculate CMAT Score?

CMAT score is calculated on the basis of correct and incorrect attempts made by the candidate. Given below is the process by which CMAT scores are calculated.

  • For each correct answer, 4 marks are awarded.

  • For each incorrect answer -1 mark is deducted.

  • For each unanswered question, no mark is awarded.

  • The total CMAT score is calculated by totaling marks gained or lost in each question.

  • The CMAT scores are then scaled, normalised and converted to percentile.
  • Total score is 400. Candidates who score arounf 360+ get 99.99 percentile.

The all India rank and merit list of CMAT is prepared on the basis of the overall result (score and percentile). In case, the CMAT score of more than one candidate is same, the ranking is done on the basis of sectional scores considered in the following order:

1. Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation

2. Logical Reasoning

3. Language Comprehension

4. General Awareness

5. Innovation and Entrepreneurship

How is CMAT Percentile Calculated?

CMAT percentile score is calculated from the scaled score. The raw scores of candidates are normalised from both exam sessions with the help of a formula to ensure no gap in the analysis of every candidate's performance. The CMAT percentile is then calculated on the basis of the rank of a candidate vs the total number of candidates who appeared in the exam. Given below is the formula for calculating CMAT percentile prescribed by NTA:

Formula to Calculate CMAT Percentile:

Percentile P = 100 x Number of candidates appeared in the examination with raw marks equal to or less than the candidate/Total number of candidates appeared

For example, if about 10,000 candidates appeared in CMAT and a candidate scored highest marks (350/400) their rank will be 1 and CMAT percentile score will be: 100 x 9999/10,000= 99.99

CMAT rank can also be calculated with the below given formula:

10,000 - 1/10,000 x 100 = 99.99.

Take a look at the image below for reference:

Two or more candidates getting the same rank: In case more than one candidates secure same ranking in the CMAT exam, the same rank will be assigned to all of them but will be displayed by sorting their names alphabetically. The CMAT rank of the subsequent candidate will then be extended by the number of additional students having the same rank. Eg: If three students are at 25th Rank then subsequent student will be ranked as 28th.

What After CMAT Result?

After CMAT result declaration, candidates have to apply for admission to MBA programmes offered by colleges accepting CMAT score. Since there is no centralised counselling for CMAT, candidates have to apply to the institutes individually. For that, candidates must go through the list of CMAT colleges in India.

Most of the MBA colleges accepting CMAT score, conduct Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) to shortlist candidates for admission. Some B-Schools conduct Written Abiility Test instead of Group Discussion.

CMAT Admission Criteria: WAT/GD/PI Shortlisting

Most of the MBA colleges fix a minimum CMAT cut off to shortlist candidates for the GD/PI round. After receiving applications from aspirants, the admission authorities shortlist them on the basis of their CMAT score. Those who will clear the CMAT cut offs, will be selected for GD/PI round. The GD/PI/WAT round will be held at the institute campus.

Group Discussion

In the GD round, candidates will be grouped into batches of 8-10. They will be given a topic to debate on, and the moderators score them.

Personal Interview

In the PI round the candidate will have to face and interview panel. In this round, candidates will be assessed on their confidence, knowledge and communication and problem solving skills. Final selection will be based on the candidate's overall performance in every round.

Written Ability Test

In the Written Ability Test (WAT), candidates will be given a topic to write a short essay on. Through WAT, the admission panel will review, candidate's English communication, knowledge on the topic, opinion and ability to put thoughts into words in a convincing manner.

CMAT Admission Process: Final Selection

Final selection of candidates will be based on candidate's CMAT score, academic record and performance in GD/PI. A composite score will be calculated with these parameters and seats will be offered according to the ranks. The merit list will be prepared thereafter and offer of admission will be emailed to candidates.
