JEE Mains, no matter how tough it is, is almost every science-opting student’s dream to crack and get selected in top-notch colleges such as Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs). However, sometimes it acts as a problem when one is unable to score good marks. There is a hype in the society that if you fail to crack JEE, you would not be able to build a good career.

Whether to drop a year or not?

Dropping a year for preparation is a good idea but do you know it’s after-effects. Some companies do not hire droppers. Therefore, dropping is not always a good idea. If you are confident enough to score well in the second attempt and get into the country’s premier colleges, then you can opt for dropping. The packages offered to those who have dropped a year to get admission to premium institutes are good. But, if you opt for not dropping then it is really good. Companies prefer experienced students rather than freshers even from good colleges.

Best colleges one can get with low scores?

There are several top colleges that can be grabbed even with a low score. As you know that there are policy changes on an almost daily basis in many colleges, you can get admission in those colleges. For instance, you can get admission into Harcourt Butler Technical University (HBTU) even after scoring 90k+ rank in JEE mains. It is not possible to list all the colleges here that have changed their policies and now accepting low ranks. However, there are several good colleges that accept admission on the basis of JEE score.

Should I wait for subsequent counselling sessions?

Counselling is the main part of JEE Mains. Here it all starts when it comes down to whether you can get a good score or not. So, you must attend the counselling and fill as many choices as you can and wait for the result. Don’t be hopeless in case you are unable to get a seat in the first four rounds. There are a total of seven primary rounds and one special round. Chances of getting a good college are the most in the special round, so you must attend that too.

Should one opt to attempt JEE Mains again in May?

From 2018 onwards, there are two attempts to write JEE Mains and the best of two will be considered. Therefore, if you think that you have committed some mistake in the previous attempt then you can opt for another, or even if you have scored well.

So, these are the possible things that you can do if you have scored low or below your expectations in JEE Mains.
