Civil Engineering Course: Branches

There are branches that describe the different areas of civil engineering work. Few of them are:

  • Construction: All most all works under civil engineering are associated with construction. The development of buildings, roads, dams, etc. are in the hands of civil engineer.
  • Transportation: It is an important aspect of civil engineering. It plays an important role in the development of a country and in speeding up the economy. The field of transportation encompasses road, rail, and air, and construction including embankments, pavements, tunnels and bridges.
  • Maritime and hydraulic engineering: It leads to satisfy the requirement of irrigation, food demand and generation of hydroelectric power to promote industrial development. Design and construction of dams require utmost safety.
  • Public Health: Civil engineering work also comprises the constructions pertaining to disposal of solid, liquid and other waste. It results in preservation of the environment, development of parts of water catchment areas, flood prevention, etc.
  • Power: There is a key role of civil engineering in power generation like building tunnels, mining for coal and metals, construction of power plants, development of electric power and nuclear power station, etc.
