What is AILET Exam?

The AILET full form is the All India Law Entrance Test. It is a national-level entrance exam conducted yearly by National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi). Students can gain admission to its undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral law programs after clearing AILET. This national-level law entrance exam is held once every year. Courses offered through this entrance exam are BA LLB, LLM, and PhD. Candidates need to prepare with utmost care to score good marks in this exam. Some private law universities also consider AILET score, apart from NLU Delhi.

Unlike CLAT, which is accepted by more than two dozen national law universities, AILET NLU Delhi is exclusive- NLU Delhi neither accepts CLAT scores nor shares its seats with any other exam.

Courses Offered Through AILET

Students will get to study following courses after they pass this exam.

  • BA LLB (Hons.): 5-year integrated undergraduate law programme
  • LLM: 1-year postgraduate law programme
  • PhD in Law: Doctoral research programme

BA LLB (Hons) program in NLU Delhi has only 120 seats. This makes it a highly competitive exam.

Why NLU Delhi Is Different From Other NLUs

NLU Delhi occupies a unique position among India's national law schools. It runs its own dedicated entrance test rather than joining the common CLAT Consortium that most other NLUs use. This means a CLAT score cannot secure a seat at NLU Delhi. An AILET NLU Delhi score has no value anywhere else. The two systems don't overlap. That exclusivity, paired with NLU Delhi's location in the national capital, its reputation for moot court success, strong research culture, and consistently competitive placement record, is what keeps thousands of serious aspirants focused on cracking the AILET exam each year. They do not treat it as a backup to CLAT.
