If your score is not good enough for the top IITs then you can choose the institutes that are really good in terms of placement and scope. Apart from them, you can go for NITs, IIITs for Bachelors degree if your score is low in JEE.
In case you have scored lower than you had expected in JEE Mains, there are certain options you could look for. Here is an opinion piece on what you could do after a low JEE Mains score:
- Whether to drop a year or not? Well, in most of the cases it has been observed that dropping is not a good choice. The person, however, feels that he/she can perform better in the next attempt but very few are able to do so in actual. However, if you are willing and determined, then you can definitely go for it. From the experience of one of my friends, I would not suggest dropping a year, as he was unable to score well in the exam and had to choose an average college.
- Best colleges one can get with low scores: If your score is not good enough for the top IITs then you can choose the institutes that are really good in terms of placement and scope. BITS Pilani is a great example but it conducts a different exam for admission. Apart from this, you can go to NITs, IIITs for Bachelors degree if your score is low in JEE. DTU and NSIT are yet another good example for the colleges in Delhi that take admissions on the basis of JEE Mains score.
- Should one wait for the subsequent counselling sessions: If you are confident that you can be in the list, then definitely wait for the subsequent counselling sessions. However, you should also consider some measures while taking admission. As a secondary option, if possible, you should enroll in such a college in which you are eligible otherwise, the seats might get filled. After that, there will be no problem in waiting for the up-gradation. Choose whatever suits you the best.
- Should one attempt JEE Mains again in May: Everything depends on the determination and concepts of the student. If you are confident enough that you can crack the JEE Mains in May, then surely go for it. However, keep in mind that you have to prepare very seriously for it. Make short notes of all the topics for better learning. Follow proper timetable, take small breaks and keep your mind fresh in that tenure.
