If you are planning to take a drop for attempting JEE Mains another time, then you should think and consider some points or aspects of it. If you have enough confidence that you will surely be able to crack JEE Mains in another attempt then go for it.
Do not let one low or unsatisfactory score define your abilities. It’s just a minor setback, nothing else.
There are not only Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in India, there are also National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), Government-Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs), etc., as the premier engineering institutes of India. There are 32 NITs, 18 IIITs and 18 GFTIs in India that have a total of over 23,000 seats. Just try according to your marks in these institutes, they provide good quality education and placements to their students.

If you are planning to take a drop for attempting JEE Mains another time, then you should think and consider some points or aspects of it. If you have enough confidence that you will surely be able to crack JEE Mains in another attempt then go for it. There are many cases of students who scored low in the first attempt but they cracked JEE Mains in the next attempt. For the next attempt, you need to increase your efforts, hard work, etc. for scoring effectively. You need to find the mistakes or faults in your JEE Mains preparation and correct them in order to get a better score in the next attempt. If you work the same in the second attempt then your score will not increase. If you are not ready for this or if you cannot then go for admission according to your first attempt’s score. In addition, the year drop also creates tension and pressure.
Apart from JEE Mains, there are various other exams which can lead you to better institutes:
- BITSAT: Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test.
- VITEEE: Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Exam
- SRMEEE: SRM Joint Engineering Entrance Exam.
- MUOET: Manipal University Entrance Test.
- UPES: University of Petroleum and Energy Studies.
- COMEDK: Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka.
- SNUSAT: Shiv Nadar University Scholastic Aptitude Test
For more details, kindly check their websites. By appearing in these exams and scoring well, one can get admission in good colleges which are also amongst the top engineering institutes in India. Apart from this, if you are having a good score or percentage in your state boards then you can try in your state’s engineering institutes.
Don’t compare yourself with anybody, if you are doing this then you are insulting yourself. Always remember, top and quality engineers are not only produced in premier institutes. If you study well, work hard and acquire good skills then no one can stop you to become a successful engineer. Colleges/institutes are just the medium which provides you with different curriculum. Therefore, college does not matter much but the things that matter the most are your skills and expertise in your particular work area/field.
Now decide wisely, whether to take a drop or opt for other entrance exams. Take your time and consider all the aspects and outputs of your decision. The decision has to be completely yours.
