SNAP preparation: Reasoning tips

SNAP Analytical and Logical Reasoning (A-LR) preparation is all about practice. There is no formula to memories and no theorem to understand. So, you need to have a practice-based approach towards this section.

Preparation plan for A-LR section of SNAP exam may seem vague. Initially, you wouldn't know from where to start. Here's what to do. Make a preparation plan that includes periodic tests and revisions session. Start with some sample Reasoning questions of SNAP and see your capabilities. This will give you the starting point.

While solving the questions, try to understand the logic of the given pattern or the series. Remember that the same logic cannot be necessarily applicable to all patterns. The patterns can be similar but are not the same, so the approach can’t be the same too.

Thus, the need for ample practice of different types of LR questions. Practicing sample questions, go through a few previous years' SNAP question papers to know they type of reasoning questions are asked. To prepare for SNAP 2026 exam’s A-LR section, you need to focus on two things:

  • Knowing the types of A-LR questions in SNAP exam
  • Practicing a variety of all types of A-LR questions

SNAP 2026 Preparation Tips for Analytical and Logical Reasoning

  1. The Analytical and Logical Reasoning section of SNAP is usually of moderate difficulty level and questions are doable, but if there’s not enough practice, this section can prove to be a toughie. So, practice and practice more.
  2. Solve each SNAP reasoning question at least thrice. In the first attempt you will understand the questions, in the second attempt you’ll be able to solve it with accuracy and in the third attempt you’ll be able to solve it quicker than previous attempt.
  3. Practicing different types of questions over a long period of time will help you discover tricks and shortcuts that you can apply in the exam to solve the puzzles faster.
  4. Don't rest with just knowing the correct answer. Check explanation to find out why a particular option is correct. This is what reasoning is all about. If you find the reason, you can solve any LR question.
  5. Not all SNAP reasoning questions are same, so you cannot apply the same shortcut or reasoning trick to the different questions. Learn to identify the type of question to be able to know which method to use on a particular question. This will happen only if you practice the questions over a long period of time.
  6. Inadequate practice of SNAP reasoning questions can leave you confused with uncommon shapes or symbols in the exam and you will end up spending more time than you should on such questions. Thus, practice more and more.
  7. In the SNAP 2026 exam, read the question carefully, simplify the data, approach the sequence in the question systematically and draw diagram to understand the question better, if needed.

Commonly asked questions
Q:   Can I prepare for SNAP by studying from CAT books?
A:

You can prepare basic concepts of Quantitative Aptitude, Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning and Verbal Ability topics included in the SNAP syllabus by studying from CAT books. The syllabus of both exams is same for these topics so you can refer to CAT books for studying the concepts, fomulae and theorems. CAT is also a tougher exam, so if you practice CAT questions for conceptual clarity, you will be automatically preparing for SNAP as well.

However, for SNAP specific preparation, you must refer to books published exclusively for SNAP preparation as the type of questions in SNAP are different from CAT. Some of them are:

  • Map the SNAP Symbiosis National Aptitude Test: 5 mock tests and sample papers by Arihant
  • SNAP Guide by Ramesh Publication House
  • Map the SNAP Test by Arihant
Q:   Which SNAP books should I read for General English section?
A:

For preparation of General English section of SNAP exam, candidates must study:

  • Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis
  • High School English Grammar & Composition by Wren & Martin
  • Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension for the CAT by Nishit K Sinha
  • How to Prepare for Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension for CAT by Arun Sharma & Meenakshi Upadhyay

Q:   What is the SNAP syllabus for Analytical and Logical Reasoning?
A:

The syllabus for Analytical and Logical Reasoning section of SNAP exam includes topics such as Family Tree/Blood Relations, Coding/Decoding, Analogy & Series, Seating Arrangement, Direction Sense, Mathematical Reasoning, Clocks & Calendars, Syllogisms, Meaningful Word/Matrix, Critical Reasoning, Visual Reasoning, Verbal & Miscellaneous Reasoning. The Analytical and Logical Reasoning section of SNAP carries maximum number of questions i.e. 25. Candidates have to choose the questions they can answer correctly, otherwise they will be given negative marks. So, SNAP aspirants must practice ample number of sample questions from these topics. The more they will practice, the better they will get at solving reasoning questions as it is all about knowing the patterns and unravelling the puzzles. Since, this section carries maximum marks, you cannot be ill prepared for it.

Q:   What is the syllabus of General English section of SNAP?
A:

The SNAP General English syllabus is similar to that of other MBA entrance exams. It includes passages, Syllogisms, Analogies, Grammar, Antonym-Synonym, One Word Substitution, Similar Sounding Words, Parajumbles and Fill in the Blanks. This is the shortest section of SNAP having only 15 questions. Most of the questions are usually based on English grammar. For the past 2 years, no Reading Comprehension passage is seen in the exam. However, candidates still need to practice Reading Comprehension passages as it has not been completely scrapped. Preparation for the exam as per the SNAP syllabus requires not much time to prepare if your English is strong. But if it is not, then you must start studying English much earlier as developing hold on a language requires time.
