JMI Entrance Exam BE (Evening), Diploma Courses Counselling 2024 Seat Allotment: Check Dates, Fees & Procedure

The seat allotment during the Jamia Millia Islamia Entrance Exam counselling is done on the basis of merit and the choices filled by the candidates in their application form. Candidates are allotted seats in the order of their merit and the availability of seats in the respective course.

Candidates called for counselling are required to pay the admission fee to lock their seats. The admission fee can be paid by cash, demand draft or online mode i.e. netbanking, debit/credit card etc. Fees in Cash may be deposited at JMI branches of either Indian Bank or Bank of India. For such payments, students are required to collect the “Pay-in Slip” from the concerned Department/Faculty/Centre’s office. Fees in cash may also be deposited in other branches of “Indian Bank” or “Bank of India” by generating a “Fees Payment Challan” online on JMI’s website (http://jmi.ac.in/feepayment). JMI accepts fees through Net Banking, Credit Cards & Debit Cards. For paying fees online the students may visit JMI website: http://jmi.ac.in/feepayment. Fees may also be deposited through Demand Draft drawn in favour of “The Registrar, Jamia Millia Islamia”, payable at New Delhi. Demand Draft will be accepted by the Cash Section, Finance & Accounts Office, JMI. Candidates should note that it is important to make the payment at the time of admission as without payment their admission will not be confirmed and their seat will be offered to the next candidate. The admission fee may vary for each programme. Usually, the university informs the candidates about the further course of action after the release of the result.

No, the counseling sessions are held on different days for all the programmes offered by Jamia Millia Islamia. Admission to all Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Post Graduate Diploma, Diploma and Certificate programs offered by the University is done through entrance test and counselling. University releases the subject-wise counselling schedule along with the result. To participate in the counselling, candidates have to reach the concerned department with all the required documents and admission fee. The seat is allotted to the candidate after the verification of documents and payment of the admission fee. Candidates must check the website of JMI from time to time to know the detailed schedule of counseling.

Candidates who will qualify the exam, will be required to participate in the counselling process of JMI Entrance Exam. Notably, candidates will have to complete the counselling process on the same day and time. Completion of the counselling process will lead to the seat locked by the candidates. Whereas, if a candidate is unable to complete the counselling process or pay the admission fee on the due date the seat will be provided to another candidate. Therefore, candidates must follow all the necessary steps to take admission in the university after the result.

The JMI Entrance Exam counselling process is conducted offline. The step-wise procedure to participate in the JMI Entrance Exam counselling process is given below:

• The list of selected candidates, as well as those on the waiting list, is displayed on the official website.
• Selected candidates will have to remain present on the counselling day along with the required documents.
• In programs where interview was conducted, a separate list of candidates shortlisted for counseling along with cut off will be displayed. Such candidates have to appear in their respective department for counselling.
• Selected candidates will have to fill ‘Student Registration Form’. The form can be obtained from the concerned Deans office/Department/Centre). They need to fill the form by giving all the details and also indicate their choice for courses.
• On the day of counselling, candidates will be required to be present with all the relevant document and application fee. The original certificates will be returned after verification.
• In case where there are many courses/branches, candidates will be allotted as per the preference filled in the application form.
• For upgrading the course/branch, candidates have to fill a form at the time of admission if they want to retain the allotted course/branch or want to upgrade.
• Upgradation of course/branch will be done on the basis of merit.
• Additional lists of candidates selected from the waiting list will be displayed as per their merit list if the seats remain vacant after the counselling is over.
• JMI may also conduct spot registration for admission from the list of selected and waitlisted candidates if the seats of any course remains vacant but the seat allotment will be subjected to the eligibility criteria fulfilled by the candidate.

The JMI Entrance Exam counselling dates have not been unannounced yet. The exam body may inform examinees about the counselling schedule on their contact details as provided during the applications. Candidates will have to appear for the counselling at the concerned department along with the relevant documents.

After depositing the admission fee, the candidates who wish to withdraw their admission are given some time for the same, within which they have to inform their department. Such students should submit applications to their faculty and it usually takes 3-4 weeks to process the refund. Candidates are provided a bank cheque after the deductions (if any). If a candidate applies for withdrawal of admission after the admission process is over, he/she might not get the refund. Hence, a candidate must take timely decision in this matter.   

Candidates must produce the following documents at JMI Entrance Exam Counselling. 

In case two candidates get same score in the JMI Entrance Exam then a tie braking rule is applied. The tiebreak is done on the basis of date of birth i.e. the older in age candidate is given higher rank. For interview programmes, the candidate securing high marks in written component of entrance test, is given higher rank. If the marks in written component are also same, then date of birth criterion is used i.e. the older in age candidate is given higher rank. This tiebreak rule is applicable for all the programmes except BTech, BArch, BDS and courses where admission will be given through CUET. 

The JMI Entrance Exam cutoff marks are the minimum marks required to pass the test. These are published along with the declaration of the results. The cutoff marks vary from programme to programme. The cutoff marks for some programmes from past cycles of the exam are provided below. This will give aspirants an idea of the required score. 

BA Hons Psychology - 47 (General Cutoff), 40.50 (For Muslim examinees)

BA/ BSc Hons Geography - 42.25 (General Cutoff), 37.50 (For Muslim examinees)

MA Public Administration - 51 (General Cutoff), 45 (For Muslim examinees)

MA Sociology - 61.50  (General Cutoff), 52.25 (For Muslim examinees)

Selected candidates are advised to complete their admission formalities when the schedule is released. Students are required to bring their Admit Card issued for the Entrance Test and attested copies of the following documents, along with the originals, at the time of admission.

• Registration Form    
• Two recent passport size photographs
• Proof of passing the qualifying examination along with the marksheets
• Proof of Permanent Address with the name of the nearest police station and district
• Certificate from a doctor or hospital certifying blood group
• Proof of Age
• Character Certificate from the institution last attended
• Category certificate (If applicable)
• Certificate/Affidavit from gazetted officer (in case of gap period)
• Result of qualifying examination

No, interview is conducted only for some courses of Jamia Millia Islamia. Along with the declaration of result, JMI releases the detailed admission process. The university schedules the interview for certain courses such as Mass Media, Mass Communication and Acting. Shortlisted candidates are required to appear for the interview as per their serial number. After the interview is over a merit list is released and selected candidates are called for counselling. For rest of all Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Diploma, PG Diploma courses of the University, the shortlisted candidates in the written test are directly called for the counselling.
