GATE Registration 2027: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has announced the GATE 2027 registration date. As per the schedule mentioned in the GATE 2027 official website IIT Madras, GATE exam form 2027 will be released on August 14. GATE 2027 application form link will be activated in the website gate2027.iitm.ac.in.
GATE 2027 Registration last date is September 21, 2026. Candidates who misses the last date to apply for GATE 2027 will have the opportunity to fill form until September 30 with a late fee of INR 500 in addition to the regular application fee.

Changes Introduced in GATE Registration This Year
IIT Madras has made two new changes in the application process of GATE this year. As per the details available in the information brochure, the changes are
1) Mandatory Digilocker Verification
2) Live Photo Capture/Facial Recognition
All candidates applying for GATE 2027 will have to create an account in digilocker before filling the form, if they do not already have one.
Digilocker is the cloud-based secure server facility by the Government of India with record of all official documents issued issued by the state/central governments including educational institutes. Digilocker will be used to verify personal identity as well as verification of other mandatory records of the candidate.

Live Photo Capture and Facial Recognition will be a part of GATE application process this year. The live photo capture will be used to match candidates face appearance with Aadhar database. In case the live photo do not match with Aadhaar database, the candidates will not be able to complete the application process.
The photo mismatch issue could come in case the Aadhaar was issued long time back and the candidates facial appearance has changed due to age. It is thus advised to get your Aadhaar photo updated by visiting Aadhaar Help Centres to avoid any issue during filling the application form.
Documents Required to Fill GATE Form 2027
Candidates applying for GATE exam have to upload certain documents that are used to verify the personal and education identity. The GATE registration mandatory documents list PDF can be checked in the official website. All required documents for GATE form filling the form are
- Scanned image of photo and signature in JPED/JPG format
- Education qualification documents in PDF format
- Category certificate for reserved category candidates
- UDID card for PwD candidates
- Scribe certificate (If availing scribe facility)
GATE 2027 Document Upload Specification
The size, dimension and other specifications for photo, signature and documents to be uploaded are given here
Photo Upload Guidelines: The photograph must be colour with white background in 3.5 cm width x 4.5 cm height dimension. The size of photo must be greater than 5 KB and less than 600 KB in JPEG/JPG format. The acceptable pixel resolution is minimum 200 x 260 and maximum 530 x 690 with maximum aspect ratio 0.89.
Signature Upload Guidelines: The signature must be in white background with black/blue ink. The signature must be in JPEG/JPG format with dimension between 250 x 80 and 580 x 180. The maximum allowable size is 300 KB and minimum 3 KB.
Category Certificate, Photo ID and Education Documents Guidelines: All these certificates have to be in PDF format with maximum allowable file size 3 MB.
GATE Exam Fee 2027 Categorywise

GATE 2027 Application Process - Step by Step Guide
The process of filling GATE application form includes several steps. Candidates can check here how to fill GATE 2027 application form online step by step guide. Candidates applying for the exam must ensure they meet all the conditions of GATE eligiblity criteria 2027 before they proceed to fill the form.
Step 1 - Digilocker Account Creation: Candidates have to first create a digilocker account before applying for the exam. Those already having digilocker account can directly login and verify/confirm their details.
Step 2- GOAPS Portal Registration: After digilocker account creation, candidates have to register at GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) portal. At this stage, candidates will have to provide their name, email ID, mobile number, date of birth. After registration candidates will be issued enrollment ID which will be used for all subsequent GOAPS 2027 portal login.
Step 3- Fill GATE Application Form 2027: Post registration, candidates can proceed to fill their application form. Candidates will be required to provide details about educational qualification, subject from which appearing in exam, exam city preference, parents details and address for communication.
Step 4- Photo, Signature and Documents Upload: Candidates have to upload scanned image of their passport size photograph, signature, educational documents and category certificate (if applicable).
The documents as well as photo and signature has to be uploaded strictly as per the size and dimension mentioned in the information brochure. If candidates face any issue in resizing the documents, they can check photo and signature upload guidelines.
Step 5- GATE Exam Fee Payment: This is the last step in filling the GATE exam form. Candidates have to pay the GATE 2027 fee as per their category and papers selected. The exact amount to be paid will be mentioned before candidates proceed to pay the fees. The GATE application form fees can be paid only online, using credit/debit card and internet banking.
Common Issues Faced by Candidates while Filling GATE Application Form
Candidates faces some common issues while they fill the application form related to photo/signature upload, and payment. The solutions to all problems are given here
Photo and Signature Upload Error: Students face this issue when photo or signature they are uploading do not match prescribed size and dimension as specified in the brochure. It is advised to first check the file size, pixel and format of the image before uploading.
In case candidates are not able to resize the image as per the specification, they can take help from free online tools like Photo Resizer or any other GATE 2027 photo and signature dimension size converter.
Payment Relate Issue: There can be cases of payment deducted twice or failed payment as a result of failure in application server. For double or failed payment, candidates will receive the refund within 15 days.
In case the candidate face GATE 2027 payment deducted but showing pending status or did not get the confirmation message, they must initiate the fresh payment without waiting for the confirmation as the failed/double payment will be credited back to the account.
Aadhaar Name Mismatch: Due to digilocker verification, candidates who have different name in Aadhaar and other documents will face Aadhaar name mismatch. For this, candidates must ensure they have uniform name in all documents. For correction in name in Aadhaar, they must visit the Aadhar Help Centres.
GATE Application Form Correction 2027
Once the candidate submit the form, the initial status of application would be “Application Under scrutiny” as all the forms submitted by various candidates are reviewed/verified against the details submitted by the candidates.
In case of any mismatch in information, candidates are sent email/SMS notification for the rectification of error. Candidates are advised to regularly check their email/SMS after submitting their form. All the required/suggested changes must be done within the specified timeline failing which the application could be rejected.
