How to Calculate MAT Score and Percentile?
MAT exam result 2026 and score calculation will be based candidate's performance in - Language Comprehension, Mathematical Skills, Data Analysis & Sufficiency and Intelligence & Critical Reasoning sections. Score of fifth section, i.e. Economic & Business Environment section will not be considered for MAT percentile calculation. Given below is the MAT marking scheme and score calculation process.
- Every MAT question carries 1 mark for correct attempt
- There is negative marking of 0.25 marks per incorrect attempt.
- There is no deduction of marks for unanswered questions.
MAT has a method of reporting the Composite Score which is different from other MBA entrance exams in India. It follows the following parameters to prepare MAT result:
- Scores of the four sections are reported on a scale of 0-100.
- The MAT Composite Score is reported on a scale of 199 to 801.

What after MAT Result 2026?
After the declaration of MAT exam result 2026, candidates can start preparing for MBA admission. AIMA will send the scores directly to 5 colleges selected by candidate in the MAT application form 2026. Those institutes will call the students for WAT/GD/PI if they meet the minimum MAT cut off. Candidates can apply to more colleges separately.
Admission process of MAT accepting colleges usually includes Group Discussion (GD), Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI). The first round of selection is based on MAT cut offs, determined by the institutes themselves. Candidates can join online platforms for soft skills and personality development training to prepare for this round.
Those who are not satisfied with their MAT 2026 score can re-appear in the next session and improve their score. However, they will have to register again for the re-test. MAT score remains valid for one year for admissions to all colleges accepting MAT score in India

MAT cut offs for every college is detemined individually by participating colleges. The top Tier colleges have MAT cut off in the range of 90 to 95 percentile. There is no minimum passing marks in MAT. Anybody scoring more than 0 marks is eligible for admission. However, since MAT admission is cut off based, merely passing the exam will not ensure selection.
It is estimated that about 20,000 candidates appear for MAT in every exam phase and about 80,000 appear for the exam annually. There are no confirmed data however.
MAT score is accepted by nearly 800 MBA colleges in India. These include mainly Tier 2 private and government institutions.
There is no passing marks in MAT as the selection of candidates is based on MAT cut offs. The MAT accepting colleges fix a minimum cut off percentile for shortlisting of candidates for MBA admission. This cut off varies from college to college. In some colleges the MAT cut off can be above 90 percentile and in some colleges it can be 50 percentile too.
The minimum eligibility criteria for MBA through MAT is graduation with minimum 50 percent marks. For reserved category students the minimum score required in 45 percent. All AICTE approved institutions have the minimum score criteria for full-time MBA. For MBA admission, candidate's academic scores matter a lot. One must have a good score in Class 10, 12 and graduation to stand a better chance at selection.
After the declaration of MAT result, candidates can start applying to the colleges they have shortlisted for pursuing MBA/PGDM. AIMA will send candidate's scores to the participating B-Schools that they shall have selected in their MAT application form. The MBA colleges will then shortlist candidates for the admission process and call candidates for further rounds. If candidates want to apply at colleges other than those five, then they will have to fill the application form for those other colleges individually. The admission process includes, Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI). Candidates can start preparing for the GD/PI round before or after the MAT result announcement. They can join online platforms or coaching institutes group discussion and PI preparation. Those who are not happy with their MAT score can attempt again in the next session and improve their score.
