This phenomenon, widely dubbed as “rank inflation”, has taken centre stage in student forums and social media discussions. Several candidates who scored above 100 out of 180 reported receiving ranks higher than 6,000, which was considered significantly lower than expected based on trends from 2023 and 2024.
Why are the COMEDK 2025 ranks “inflated”?
Here are some speculations for the COMEDK 2025 rank inflation -
- Higher number of test takers
- Better average performance
In a way, many students scored within a narrow range of marks, leading to overlapping percentiles. A difference of just 1–2 marks could result in a drop of hundreds or even thousands of ranks, as per the discussions made on student forums.
What does this mean for students?
The trend may lead to higher COMEDK 2025 cutoffs in top private engineering colleges like RVCE, BMSCE, and MSRIT, especially for Computer Science and allied branches. Students with borderline ranks may have to look at second-tier colleges or participate in later counselling rounds, hoping for better allotments.
