CAT 2025 cut offs for MBA admission 2026 will be released by institutes in January 2026 when the PI shortlisting process starts.

IIM CAT sectional cut offs are considered for PI shortlisting. Those candidates are shortlisted who have consistent performance in all three sections of CAT. 

IIMs will start PI shortlist process for 2026 admission from the first week of January 2026. IIM Bangalore is expected to release PI shortlist first. 

The next two big exams are XAT 2026 on January 4 and CMAT 2026 on January 25, 2026. MBA aspirants must focus on these two now.

This year, no candidate has scored 100 percentile in CAT. Four of them have scored 99.99 percentile.

Total marks in CAT is 204. The CAT raw score are calculated from 204, then normalized to arrive at scaled score before percentile conversion.

CAT 2025 exam was moderately difficult, with no lengthy or time consuming questions. It was relatively easier than previous year.

CAT 2025 is a domestic exam and is valid for admission to MBA colleges in India only. CAT score is not valid for admission outside India.

It is not easy to get into newer IIMs with low CAT score as their minimum cut offs also range between 90 to 95 percentile. They also lay emphasis on a good overall profile and performance in the PI round.

Qualifying CAT 2025 cut offs for IIM Kozhikode are mentioned below:

The CAT cut off percentile for MDI Gurgaon ranges between 97 to 99 percentile. The course fee of full time MBA is nearly INR 26 lakh. 

CAT cut off for IIFT Delhi is around 98 percentile. For Reserved category students the cut offs are lower between 85 to 90 percentile. 

CAT score weightage at IIMs range between 30 to 60 points for final selection. At top IIMs, CAT weightage is lower than WAT-PI and higher in new IIMs.

For full time MBA programme no other MBA exam is valid for IIM. The institute considers candidature through CAT only.

There is no limit on number of CAT attempts. MBA aspirants can appear for it as many times as they want to.

A good score in CAT depends on the target B-School. If you are targeting IIMs, then you need a minimum of 95 percentile. However, if you are targeting Tier 2 or Tier 3 college then 70 to 80 percentile will be good.

After CAT, candidates can attempt XAT (if they registered for it) or CMAT (if they registered for it or MAT or ATMA in February 2026.

CAT score is not vaild outside India for pursuing MBA course. It is a domestic exam conducted for Indian institutes only.

IIMs offer MBA/PGDM/PGP, Executive MBA, FPM, PhD, MBA for Working Professionals and such programmes through CAT.

CAT is a national level exam and it is accepted by all recognized institutes. According to Shiksha, It includes over 1600 colleges across India, apart from the IIMs.

IIMs will release the PI shortlist form in January 2026. Candidates will have to login with their CAT ID to see if they have been shortlisted or not. If they are selected, they will have to fill the PI form and submit it before deadline. 

In 2024, the CAT exam was held on November 24 and the result was announced on December 19. This year, the exam result seems to have been delayed.
