GATE 2026 exam: IIT Guwahati has activated the GATE result 2026 link at gate2026.iitg.ac.in. The GATE 2026 COAP counselling dates have been released. Only candidates who appeared the exam can access GATE 2026 result at login page. The authorities have also released the GATE final answer key at GOAPS.

The GATE scorecard will be made available for download at the GOAPS portal; from March 27 - May 31, for free. Post that, result scorecard can be downloaded by paying a fee of INR 500 till December 31, 2026. The GATE scorecard 2026 will be valid for three years. GATE counselling 2026 will be conducted by COAP and CCMT. Qualified candidates will be eligible to participate in counselling, as per the schedule. 

This year, IIT Guwahati conducted the GATE 2026 exam on Feb 7, 8, 14, and 15 in two shifts for 30 papers. Candidates qualified will be able to access and download their scorecard to apply for MTech admission at IITs, NITs, IISc, and GFTIs. GATE result 2026 can also be used for PSU jobs as well.

What is GATE Exam?

The GATE is also called as Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, which is a national-level entrance test held once a year to offer to offer admission to MTech and research programmes in IITs, IIITs, NITs, IISc, and other GFTIs. Every year, the exam is conducted by IISc, followed by IITs on a rotational basis.

This year, IIT Guwahati is conducting GATE exam.

What’s New in GATE 2026?

  • The GATE 2026 application fees have been revised. 
  • A new sectional paper, called Energy Science, is introduced under Engineering Sciences. The GATE Energy-Science paper code is XE-I. 

Benefits after qualifying GATE Exam

  • Candidates can get to MTech or PhD programmes in IITs, NITs, IISc, or GFTIs or apply for research programmes.
  • Get jobs are top PSUs like GAIL, AAI, BHEL, IOCL, etc
  • Qualified GATE applicants (with valid score) can get financial assistance of INR 12,400 monthly during their academic period
  • Candidates applying for PhD/research with a valid GATE score can get financial assistance of INR 37,000 (in first two years) and INR 42,000 (from third to fifth year)
  • Qualified candidates can also study abroad. Accepting GATE study abroad universities are- National University of Singapore, RWTH Aachen University, and University of Munich

The online examination mode was expanded. GATE was then conducted for 15 papers out of 21 papers

Normalisation process for multi-session paper was introduced

Virtual calculator was introduced. In addition, validity of scorecard was increased from two to three years. 

2015

Entire admission process was done online. Scorecard was made available online. 

Scholarships were increased from INR 8000 to INR 12400

2017

A new section named, Atmospheric and Ocean Sciences was introduced under Engineering Sciences (XE paper)

International applicants from Bangladesh, Nepal, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, and the UAE were eligible to attempt GATE

2018

While choosing the GATE exam centre, the first two choices had to be from the same zone. On the other hand, the third zone can be from any other GATE zone.

GATE 2026 Cutoff

The GATE 2026 cutoff will be released by the conducting authority on the official website. However, students have shared their qualifying status with us, based on which we have received the qualifying cutoff mark of few branches. Candidates can check below. The GATE exam cutoff is the minimum qualifying mark that is required to get qualified in the GATE exam. GATE cutoff marks 2026 may range from 25 to 50 marks out of 100 for various papers, depending on paper difficulty and registered applicants.

GATE COAP 2026 Counselling Process

The COAP - Common Offer Acceptance Portal is a common portal for all participating institutes to fill all IIT MTech seats for GATE-qualified candidates. The GATE COAP is conducted in five main and five additional rounds. Candidates will be given three options - accept and freeze, retain and wait, and reject and wait. On the other hand, in the additional rounds, candidates have only two options to consider - accept and freeze, and reject. Let's look at it details -

  • If a candidate selects - accept and freeze, then it means that he/she is willing to accept the offer and do not want to upgrade to higher preferences
  • If a candidate selects- retain and wait, then it means he/she is willing to accept one of the available offer, however, he/she want to be considered for upgrading to higher preferences. 
  • Lastly, if a candidate select - reject and wait, then it means he/she is not willing to accept the offer and want to be considered for upgrading for higher preferences

GATE CCMT 2026: Counselling Process

Centralised Counselling for M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan (CCMT) is a common platform for GATE-qualified candidates to take admission to NITs, IIITs & other GFTIs. GATE CCMT  counselling process consists of three regular rounds, two special rounds (SR) & a national spot round (NSR). Candidates will be given four choices for the allotted seats: Float, Slide, Freeze & Surrender (Participate in the next round).

  • Float: Retaining choices of previous rounds & willing to opt for better choices in further rounds. 
  • Slide: Retaining choices of previous rounds of the same institute & willing to opt for better choices in further rounds. 
  • Freeze: No change in Seat Allotment; however, willing to opt for category upgradation. 
  • Surrender (Participate in the next round): No claim on the surrendered seat in further rounds & willing to opt for the better opportunity. 

Career Opportunities after GATE 2026

GATE aspirants can choose any of the following career options after qualifying for GATE 2026 -

  • Candidates can pursue MTech/MSc/PhD from IISc Bangalore, IITs, NITs, IIITs and other reputed institutes.
  • Candidates can pursue a postgraduate diploma in industrial engineering/ manufacturing management or a Postgraduate Diploma in Project Management from NITIE Mumbai. 
  • Find jobs in several Maharatna and Navratna PSUs and research organisations through GATE 2026 scores, such as IOCL, BHEL, PGCIL, BARC, etc. 
  • Candidates can get into the teaching field, like a professor, an assistant professor, and other reputed institutes. 
  • Junior Research Fellow Assistant: BARC, ISRO, DRDO, etc.
  • Scientist "C" grade jobs
  • Senior Research Fellow Assistant: ISRO, BARC, CSIR, etc. 
  • Many private firms also accept GATE scores for recruiting candidates.

PSU Recruitment through GATE

Besides, MTech admissions, many PSUs accept GATE scores for recruitment. Some of the top PSU include- GAIL, GRID-INDIA, AAI, NHAI, etc. The official notification for PSU recruitment through GATE usually starts after the announcement of the GATE 2026 exam results. 

Aspirants who want to get into PSU, can check the official website of pages of the PSU GATE recruitment, under careers section. Once the GATE result 2026 is announced, the applicant can visit the website and apply, within the specified date. The selection process of PSU through GATE include group discussion, followed by personal inerview and document verification. 

The GATE 2026 counselling will take place after the announcement of results. The mode of counselling is online and will be held in rounds. GATE counselling 2026 is conducted by COAP (for admission to IITs) and CCMT (for admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs). Only qualified candidates are eligible for the counselling process. The steps can be checked below -

  • GATE online registration at CCMT or COAP
  • Participate in online choice filling and locking of choices
  • The choices will be locked automatically if not locked by the applicant
  • Announcement of seat allocation result (for each round)
  • Pay of seat acceptance fees
  • Document uploading and updating the seat status (freeze, float, slide or withdraw)
  • Visit the allotted institute for online document verification

GATE Result 2026: How and When to Download?

GATE 2026 result link is now available at official website. Students can now check their result at GATE candidate login 2026 using their enrollment ID and password. Qualified candidates in GATE will be eligible for the counselling process. Based on the normalisation process, the scores will be evaluated. The GATE scorecard will be released a few days after the result declaration. 

Candidates can download their GATE scorecard 2026 from March 27 to May 31, 2026 for free. After that, the scorecard is available for download from June 1 to December 31, 2026 by paying a fee of INR 500.

The IIT Guwahati GATE scorecard will be available for the qualified candidates. To download, candidates have to use their enrollment ID and password. The GATE 2026 result scorecard will also include the cutoff scores (branch-wise). The validity of the GATE scorecard 2026 is three years.

The conducting body, will release GATE topper's list 2026 soon. Last year's topper's list was announced on March 25. IIT Guwahati will release GATE exam rank holders of each branch. The topper's list comprises test paper, candidate's name, raw marks, and GATE score out of 1000.

GATE 2026 Scholarships

AICTE offers GATE scholarships to students monthly to stay financially independent during their academic year. With a valid GATE score, students will receive a stipend of INR 12,400 per month for up to two years. To avail scholarship, candidates will have to submit specific documents, once the portal is activated.

How to Download GATE Answer Key 2026

Candidates can download the answer key with the help of the following steps:

  • Open official website
  • Click on the GATE candidate login
  • Enter the enrollment ID or email ID and password  
  • The answer key, along with the response sheet will be displayed on the screen.
  • Download and save the PDF 

GATE 2026 Exam Answer Keys

The GATE answer keys are now available. IIT Guwahati released answer key PDF in two formats - provisional and final. The authorities have closed the answer key challenge process, the last date to raise objection was Feb 28. Candidates were able to raise objection at GATE GOAPS portal 2026 using their enrollment ID and password.

MCQs - 42 questions (1 and 2 marks), NATs - 13 questions (1 and 2 marks), and MSQs - 10 questions (1 to 2 marks)

GATE Exam Feb 14 ME and CE-2 paper analysis

 ME paper was also moderate with concept-based questions. No MSQs were asked. NAT (2 questions - 1 mark, 18 questions - 2 mark, 28 questions of 1 mark, and 17 questions of 2 marks) were asked.

The CE-2 paper was moderate. Many students found the GATE CE-2 question paper to be balanced and having similar difficulty level to that of shift 1. 

GATE 2026 Feb 14 CE and EE paper analysis CE-1 paperwas easy to moderate. Questions were balanced, engineering mathematics -13 marks

Topics covered: strength of materials, engineering hydrology, geotechnical engineering (15 marks approx), soil engineering had easy questions. Maths and Aptitude were moderate.

GATE EE question paper was moderate with numerical questions were of higher weightage

10 to 15  NATs were asked, MCQs had 35 to 40 questions, and MSQs had 12 to 15 questions

GATE 2026 Feb 7 Paper Analysis Overall, the shift 1 papers was easy to moderate. XE was easy compared to last year. A few questions were tough and lengthy.
GATE 2026 Feb 8 CSE 1 and CSE2 Paper Analysis

Shift 1 exam was moderately difficult. Mathematics and Aptitude were moderate, while the CS section had some lengthy questions, More MSQs and NAT questions were asked.

GATE 2026 CSE2 paper was easy to moderate. Discrete Mathematics had 3 questions approx combining 1 and 2 marks, compiler design had 4 questions combining 1 and 2 marks. Students say the paper was easy compared to first shift.

GATE admit card 2026 is available for download now. Candidates can download their admit card using GOAPS portal at official website of GATE 2026 or using the link available at this page. Students are advised to download IIT Guwahati GATE 2026 admit card before the exam date.

What to carry along with IITG GATE admit card?

Students must carry a valid ID proof (must be the same as the one uploaded in the application form) along with hall ticket of GATE 2026. So, here is the list of items that are allowed and not in the exam centre -

GATE 2026 Exam Day Guidelines

As per the GATE exam guidelines issued by IIT Guwahati, candidates must reach the exam centre at least 90 minutes before the test time. Students must carry their hall ticket along with ID proof and transparent water bottle, pen and paper. In addition, students must avoid carrying items that are prohibited at the centre. Read below for more:

  • Students cannot leave the hall before the end time of exam.
  • Candidates must sit only on the allotted seat
  • Candidates can log in 20 minutes before the exam time to read the instructions.
  • GATE calculator is implemented in the system for calculations
  • Scribble pad will be offered to students for rough work. One has to write their name and registration number before using it. The scribble pad must be returned after the exam to the invigilator.

GATE 2026 Syllabus

IIT Guwahati released the GATE 2026 syllabus along with the information brochure. The GATE previous year's question paper consists of three major sections - General Aptitude, Engineering Mathematics and the core subject that the candidate has opted for. The general aptitude syllabus is common for all subjects. 

The GATE Question paper will have 65 questions for 100 marks, including 15 marks for general aptitude questions. The paper codes AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH, XH, and XL will have 15 marks for general aptitude & the remaining 85 marks are devoted to the specific subject. All other paper codes except AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH, XH and XL will have 15 marks for general aptitude, 13 marks for engineering mathematics and the remaining 72 marks for the specific subject.

Candidates appearing for the Graduate Aptitude Test must be consistent with their preparation. Aspirants must be dedicated and consistent with their preparation. Try clearing concepts properly. Start early as possible and follow classroom notes for better understanding. Maintain a handbook for last-minute revision. Most importantly, attempt mock tests and GATE previous year's question paper daily to build accuracy along with understanding of GATE exam pattern.

GATE Application Form & Eligibility

GATE 2026 Correction Window

The correction facility for the GATE 2026 exam is open for candidates having defects in their application form up to March 12. The regular correction facility started on October 27 and last date to make edits was Novemeber 10. During this phase, candidates had to make edits they want to, such as gender, category, college details, etc. No fees are required to make changes in personal details II, and educational qualifications. 

What is the GOAPS Portal for GATE registration 2026?

To apply, candidates need to visit the GOAPS portal. The GOAPS portal, also known as the GATE online application process system, is the official online portal where candidates can do the following-

  • Register for the GATE exam
  • Fill out the application form
  • Edit their application form

  • Once the enrollment ID and password is created, login and fill out the details

GATE 2026 Application Fee

This year, IIT Guwahati revised the GATE registration fee 2026 for all categories. Candidates must note that without payment, the application will not be accepted. Here are few things to note regarding the application fee -

GATE 2026 Two-Paper Combination List and Paper Codes

The GATE two-paper combination allows candidates to opt for at least two papers in the exam. Paper I is the primary paper, and Paper II is the secondary paper. GATE Exam Centres/Cities

IIT Guwahati has released the list of GATE exam centres 2026 on the official website. Candidates can also find the test centre details in information brochure. The GATE 2026 exam cities are categorised into eight exam zones. Candidates had to enter their exam city choices at the time of filling the application form. Also, candidates must note that there are no international centres for GATE exam 2026. Foreign nationals have to travel to Indian to attempt the exam.

NOTE: Candidates applying for GATE can choose at least three exam cities while filling the application form. All three exam cities must be from the same GATE exam zone.
