Among the twenty 100 percentilers, the first is Kolkata boy, Avidipto Chakraborty. His sectional percentiles are 100 in VARC, 99.6 in DILR and 99.8 percentile in QA.
Avidipto is currently a final year student of a dual degree course in Economics and Computer Science at BITS Pilani, Goa and has been interning with Nomura in Mumbai.
Talking to Shiksha, an ecstatic Avidipto said that nobody expects 100 percentile. He said was expecting 99+ but not 100 and now wishes to get through IIM Ahmedabad.
“I already have a job offer in hand and if I crack IIM Ahmedabad I will defer my admission by next two years,” he said.
Another Kolkata boy Nilanjan Dutta, scored cent percent in CAT 2016 which was his second attempt. His scores of CAT 2016 are 97.21 in VARC, 100 in DILR and 99.90 in QA.
Nilanjan had first appeared in CAT in 2011 and scored 99.43 percentile. He chose to appear in XAT and enrolled himself at XLRI, Jamshedpur. He feels that along with hard work, luck matters, but the key is to think carefully and answer just the required number of questions correctly.
Yash Choudhari from Pune is another 100 percentiler. The fourth year BTech student from College of Engineering, Pune was expecting as high as 99.99 percentile and bagging the perfect score wasn’t surprising for him. Having attempted CAT for the first time, Yash scored 99.9 in VARC, 99.86 in DILR and 99.96 in QA.
IIT-Delhi graduate Akshay Mehndiratta is another 100 percentiler who’s basking in his success and congratulatory messages from all quarters. The Gurgaon lad had first attempted CAT in 2015 when he scored 99.34 percentile. With 100 percentile in his kitty, now he hopes to make it to the top three IIMs- Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta.
Delhi’s Rahul Sharma, an instructor with an MBA coaching institute also scored the perfect 100 in CAT 2016. His motive behind appearing in the exam was to familiarize himself with the latest pattern of the exam and set an example in front of his students of how to score well.
An IIM-Ahmedabad alumnus, Rahul had first attempted CAT in 2008. Eight years down the line, he feels the exam has become easier.
Arpit Singh, another 100 percentiler from Delhi, had started preparing for CAT 2016 in September 2015. He credits mock tests for his incredible success in first CAT attempt.
The IIT-Delhi student spent almost 9 months in practicing the modules over the weekend, analyse his performance and pace himself accordingly. The youngster has already started preparing to clear the next rounds of admissions.
The only candidate from Mumbai who scored cent percentile is Patrick D'Souza. The 40-year-old, CAT instructor has been appearing for the test for the last 12 years.
This is his third 100 percentile score. Patrick has scored a 100 percentile in 2007 and 2009 as well. Patrick’s reason behind appearing for CAT 2016 was same as Rahul’s. He wanted to understand the changing pattern in CAT to teach his students better.
CAT 2016 was conducted on December 4, 2016 by IIM Bangalore. The exam was conducted at 138 centers across the country and the question paper was of moderate to high difficulty level.
There was also paper-leak scare during the second slot of the exam but the exam convening body took prompt action to prevent it.
Shiksha congratulates all the candidates on their success and wish them good luck for WAT/PI rounds.
