TNEA 2026 Application Form: The Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu, has closed TNEA registration 2026. The certificates could be uploaded by June 6. 10+2 passed/appearing candidates could apply for TNEA 2026 counselling. Admission will be based on marks obtained by the candidates in the relevant subjects, namely, Maths, Physics and Chemistry in class 12, which will be reduced to 200 (Maths - 100, Physics - 50 and Chemistry - 50).

Documents/Information to Be Kept Ready Before TNEA 2026 Registration

Before starting the TNEA 2026 registrations, candidates have to keep some important documents/information ready. Check the list of documents needed for TNEA counselling 2026 below:

On the official website, tneaonline.org, candidates have to upload the scanned copy of the following documents after their TNEA 2026 registration is over:

  • 10th Mark Sheet
  • HSC First year (+1) Marksheet
  • HSC Second year (+2) / Equivalent Mark sheet
  • Transfer certificate
  • Registration Fee Details
  • Details of Government school studied from Sixth to Twelfth standard for 7.5% Government School Students Reservation
  • Permanent Community Certificate for ST, SC, SCA, MBC & DNC, BC and BCM (either Permanent card or electronic form / digitally signed e-certificate)
  • Nativity Certificate (only in electronic form / digitally signed e-Certificate) (if applicable)

Certificate Verification at TFCs

The uploaded certificates are subjected to verification at the TNEA Facilitation Centres (TFCs) selected by the candidates in the online application form. The certificate uploading and verification procedure is intimated after the completion of the registration process.

While verifying the documents uploaded during TNEA 2026 registration, candidates have to follow the following steps:

  1. If the status shown is Incomplete, candidates have to scan all the required certificates as a single PDF file and upload it.
  2. After uploading, they must freeze the upload and logout.
  3. If the status shown is 'upload not completed and the upload status is not started', scan all the certificates as a single PDF file and upload.
  4. After uploading freeze the upload and logout.
  5. If the status shown is 'In Progress', it indicates that certificate verification is under process.
  6. If the status shown is 'Completed successfully', then it indicates that Certificate verification is completed successfully for that Application.

Only those candidates whose certificates are verified successfully are included in the TNEA rank list and become eligible to participate in the TNEA counselling process.

Q:   What are the requirements to apply for TNEA?

To apply for TNEA 2026, candidates have to meet the below requirements: Candidates must have passed the 10+2 exam with a minimum of 45% marks (40% for reserved category candidates). They should have passed the 10+2 exam from Tamil Nadu board or any equivalent board. They must have cleared any one of the HSC (Vocational Subject) with one of the Engineering related subjects namely Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry. Apart from that, they following requirements must be also met: Tamil Nadu candidates who have passed their Class VIII to Class XII standard in Tamil Nadu. TNEA (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions) is conducted by Anna University, Chennai for admission to various engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu. To be considered as a "local candidate" for TNEA you must satisfy certain eligibility criteria set by Anna University. As per the TNEA eligibility criteria, a candidate can be considered as a local candidate if he/she meets any of the following criteria: Candidates who are Native of Tamil Nadu (i.e. who have studied in Tamil Nadu) or who have completed their qualifying examination from an institution located in Tamil Nadu. Children of Central Government Employees, who have been serving in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past five years at the time of submission of application, and whose parents' native is not Tamil Nadu. Children of employees in Public Sector or Government recognised institutions who at the time of submission of application for admission employed in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past five years. Based on the above eligibility criteria, if you have completed your 10th, 11th, and 12th standards in Tamil Nadu, then you can be considered as a local candidate for TNEA. However, if you do not meet any of the eligibility criteria mentioned above, you may not be considered as a local candidate for TNEA.

How to Fill TNEA 2026 Application Form

TNEA 2026 registration

On the registration page, candidates have to enter their name, email ID, password generation, nationality, nativity, religion, community, whether they have studied from 8th to 12th standard in Tamil Nadu or not, date of birth, mobile number, gender, qualifying number, the month of passing, year of passing.

An OTP will be sent to the candidate’s registered mobile number. After submitting the OTP and previewing the details, candidates have to click on the ‘register’ button. After registration, candidates will be sent their user ID in their registered mobile number.

 Note:

  • The name should be entered in the class 10th /12th mark sheet
  • Candidates have to enter his/her e-mail address for 'User ID'. If the candidate does not have an e-mail address, then an e-mail address has to be created and enter the same for the user ID. In case, they do not have an email and if not in a position to create one immediately, use their parents' email. This e-mail address shall be treated as the candidate’s login user ID and registered e-mail address to which all communications are sent
  • The mobile number entered here will be treated as your registered mobile number
  • The password should contain a minimum of 8 characters with which at least one capital, one numerical and one special character
  • Details entered here cannot be modified later, hence enter the details correctly before confirming
  • Candidates have to remember their User ID (e-mail address) and password because this will be used during the process of application, payment, choice entry and allotment

Eligibility to Apply for TNEA Counselling 2026

The TNEA counselling eligibility criteria 2026 are given below.

  • Nationality: Only Indian nationals can apply for TNEA counselling 2026.
  • Nativity: Candidates of the following nativity can apply for TNEA counselling 2026:
Tamil Native Candidates

Tamil Nadu candidates who have passed VIII, IX, X, XI and XII standards from schools situated in Tamil Nadu are eligible to apply. They need not produce a Nativity Certificate for verification.

Tamil Nadu native candidates who have passed any of the VIII, IX, X, XI and XII Std. or their equivalent examination from schools situated outside Tamil Nadu can also apply. They should produce an Original Nativity Certificate only in electronic form/digitally signed e-Certificate.

Sons and daughters of All India Service Tamil Nadu cadre officers are eligible to apply. A Self-declaration from the parent in this regard is to be produced.

Non-Tamil Candidates Children of Central Government Employees may also apply for admission, irrespective of their native, provided their parents or guardians (only if both parents are not alive) have been serving in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past FIVE YEARS at the time of submission of application. This should be supported by producing a certificate from the employer of the parent or guardian, to that effect.
Children of employees in the Public Sector or Government recognised Institutions who at the time of submission of application for admission employed in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past five years may also apply irrespective of their domicile. A certificate from the employer stating that the person is a Permanent Employee of the Firm or Institution concerned with evidence like Income Tax return, PF Slips, etc. and has been working in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past FIVE YEARS has to be produced.
Other State candidates who have studied VIII, IX, X, XI and XII Std. in Tamil Nadu are eligible to apply. They need not produce a Nativity Certificate.
Srilankan Tamil Refugee

Candidates who are Srilankan Tamil refugees studying in Tamil Nadu will be considered under open competition. They have to produce the following certificates:

  • Identification certificate from the Head Quarters Tahsildar.
  • Those who have not registered in the refugee camp should produce their original passport, visa and letter registered with the Police Station
Overseas Citizen of India Candidates

Candidates of Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders/Persons of Indian Origin(PIO) cardholders and Native of Tamil Nadu are permitted to participate in the Tamilnadu Engineering Counselling under the “Open Category”. This will not apply to the candidates of overseas citizen of India (OCI) cardholders/Persons of Indian Origin(PIO) cardholders who are born in a foreign country after 04.03.2021.

Qualifying Examinations and Eligibility: A pass in the HSC (Academic: both +1 and +2) or its equivalent with a minimum average percentage is given below:

  • General Category - 45%
  • Backward Class including Backward Class Muslim - 40%
  • MBC & DNC - 40%
  • SC/SCA/ST - 40%

Domicile residents of Tamil Nadu should have Qualified 8th,9th,10th, and 10+2th standard in the state. If the domicile Residents have completed above standard from Outside the state, then they will also be eligible provided They bring their copy of Navity Certificate. Children of government employees whose parents have been serving the state for the past 5 years from the Day of application will also be eligible even if they are not domicile residents. Candidates can edit the TNEA 2026 application form until the last date of registration. In TNEA counselling, candidates have to login to their counselling portal using their User ID and password. Theregistered mail id of the candidates is the User Id.

In case the candidates have forgotten their password, they can follow the steps given below to retrieve the same:

  • Click “Forgot password” present in the TNEA counselling login page.
  • By entering the correct email address, an email containing the link and instructions for resetting the password will be sent.

Following registration for TNEA 2026, candidates begin the choice filling phase, where they select their preferred institutions and academic programs based on their specific rank and category.

Since seat allotment is determined by the priority of the list, applicants must arrange their selections in order of preference, placing their top choices at the beginning. This process is conducted online through the official website. To maximise the likelihood of securing a seat, candidates are encouraged to submit an extensive list of options. Should an applicant fail to manually lock their choices before the official deadline, the system will automatically finalise their current selections.

TNEA Random Number 2026 for Registered Candidates

To remove ties in TNEA merit list when or criteria fail, each applicant is allotted a unique 10-digit random number known as TNEA random number. If a tie remains after all tie-breaking rules are exhausted, candidate with higher random number will be given higher rank in TNEA rank list. Check below the steps on how to fill choices in TNEA 2026 counselling: Add/Remove Choices: Candidates have to choose carefully their preferences for getting a seat in a branch in an institution. Based on the availability of seats, rank, and community, candidates will be allotted. Candidates must prepare a list of choices in the order of preference to enter the choices in the order preference correctly and quickly. Q:   What is the purpose of TNEA 10 digit unique number?
A: 

TNEA  random number is a 10-digit unique number that is used to break ties after all four tie-breaking rules have been applied. The TNEA merit list is determined based on a total mark of 200. In cases where multiple candidates achieve same marks in the common merit list, inter-se-merit among these candidates is determined based on the following priorities:

  1. Percentage of score in Mathematics
  2. Percentage of score in Physics
  3. Percentage of score in optional subject
  4. Percentage of total score in the 12th Standard Examination
  5. Date of birth (with preference given to the elder candidate)
  6. Random number (higher value will be given preference)

Q:   I have made some mistakes while uploading certificates in TNEA application form. Can I correct them?
A: 

If candidates have frozen the certificates, they cannot make any changes to them. As per instructions, once all certificates are uploaded click the “Freeze upload” button to complete your certificate upload process. In the popup window check the declaration and click “confirm” button to freeze your upload. Once the certificates are frozen the candidates cannot make any changes but can view the certificates uploaded and download it. Before confirmation, candidates can make changes.

Q:   Who conducts Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions or TNEA?

Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu conducts Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission TNEA 2026. Earlier, TNEA counselling was conducted by Anna University. No, there is no age limit to apply for TNEA. However, note that the age limit is applicable at the time of admission based on the course and the institutes eligibility conditions. Therefore candidates must check the eligibility for the course and institute they are willing to apply for admission via TNEA 2026 counselling. TNEA stands for Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions. The Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu conducts TNEA every year. It is an online counselling window. All Indian National candidates who wish to take admission to Government and Government Aided Engineering Colleges, University Departments and Constituent Colleges of Anna University, Annamalai University and for the seats surrendered by SelfFinancing Engineering Colleges in Tamil Nadu have to apply for TNEA counselling. TNEA counselling is a Unified Single Window Admission System for Indian Nationals only. The courses offered via this online counselling are BE/B.Tech and BE (sandwich) courses. TNEA counselling is conducted online in 4 rounds as per the Schedule. Candidates need to participate in corresponding rounds based on their rank.

Q:   Is TNEA only for Tamil Nadu students?
A: 

TNEA is open to other state candidates who have studied VIII, IX, X, XI and XII class in Tamil Nadu. Candidates who are 10+2 passed with minimum 45% marks are eligible to apply for TNEA under the Open competition category. The nativity conditions for TNEA 2025 are as follows:

  1. Tamil Nadu candidates who have passed VIII, IX, X, XI and XII standard. From schools situated in Tamil Nadu are eligible to apply. They need not produce Nativity Certificate for verification.
  2. Tamil Nadu native candidates who have passed any of the VIII, IX, X, XI and XII standard. Or their equivalent examination from schools situated outside Tamil Nadu can also apply. They should produce Original Nativity Certificate only in electronic form/digitally signed e-Certificate.
  3. Children of Central Government Employees may also apply for admission, irrespective of their native, provided their parents or guardians (only if both parents are not alive) have been serving in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past FIVE YEARS at the time of submission of application. This should be supported by producing a Certificate from the employer of the parent or guardian, to that effect.
  4. Children of employees in Public Sector or Government recognised Institutions who at the time of submission of application for admission employed in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past five years may also apply irrespective of their domicile. A Certificate from the employer stating that the person is a Permanent Employee of the Firm or Institution concerned with evidence like Income Tax return, PF Slips, etc. And is working in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past FIVE YEARS has to be produced.
  5. Sons and daughters of All India service Tamil Nadu cadre officers are eligible to apply. A Self declaration from the parent in this regard is to be produced.

The candidates those who have successfully completed the TNEA registration process along with payment of registration fee are only eligible for certificate upload. If you have not complete the registration fee payment you cannot see the option to upload certificates in TNEA online form.
