Commonly asked questions
Q:   What type of questions are asked in JEE Main?
A:

There are two question types in JEE Main exam. Multiple choice questions and numerical ability questions. In MCQ, every question has 4 options with only 1 correct answer. Select the correct option. In numerical ability question type, no options are there. Solve them and write answer using keyword and mouse.

Q:   Which mock tests are best for JEE Mains?
A:

Best free mock tests for JEE Mains are previous year question papers. You can also practice NTA mock tests online at nta.ac.in. All mock tests are designed as per JEE Main syllabus and exam pattern.

Q:   Do I need to attempt all the questions in JEE Main exam?
A:

NO, it is compulsory to attempt all questions in the JEE Main exam. The JEE Main exam has negative marking and candidates must answer only those questions for which they know the correct answer. Students must note that there are no minimum marks in JEE Main that students need to score. Students gets All India Rank based on the marks they secure in exam and gets admission based on that rank.

Q:   What topics are mostly asked in JEE Main exam
A:

Questions in JEE Mains exam is a blend of all the topics covered in the syllabus. However, there are some topics that are very much important and should be paid extra attentions while preparing for the exam. The list of important JEE Main topics are

Mathematics

  • 3D Geometry
  • Vector
  • Applications of Derivatives
  • Definite Integrals
  • Limit, Cnntinuity and Differentiability

Physics

  • Heat and Thermodynamics

1. JEE Main 2027 Maths Weightage Matrix

Not all chapters are created equal. To maximize return on investment (ROI), divide JEE Main syllabus into three distinct tiers based on past year weightage.

Tier

Priority Focus

Key Chapters

Strategy

Tier 1

High Weightage & Scoring

Vector & 3D Geometry, Matrices & Determinants, Sequences & Series, Permutations & Combinations, Probability, Statistics

Master completely. These form 35-40% of the paper and are highly scoring.

Tier 2

High Weightage & Complex

Definite Integration, Application of Derivatives (AOD), Coordinate Geometry (Conic Sections), Complex Numbers

Focus on standard formats, visual properties, and properties of integrals.

Tier 3

Moderate Weightage

Continuity & Differentiability, Trigonometry, Differential Equations, Quadratic Equations

Focus on core formulas, basic applications, and eliminating silly mistakes.

2. JEE Main 2027 Phase-Wise Revision Plan

A successful JEE Main revision plan shouldn't look like reading notes; it must transition from concept to high-velocity mock tests. Below we have shared the phase wise preparation strategy for the JEE Mains exam.

Phase 1: Topic Consolidation & Short Notes (Weeks 1-3)

With just a few weeks remaining for the exam, it is high time for candidates to start their preparation. We are sharing the initial weeks 1-3 day plan -

  • Before opening notes for a chapter (e.g., Matrices), take a blank piece of paper and write down every single property, formula, and special condition you can remember. Open notes to fill in what you missed using a different colored pen.

  • Do not compile exhaustive text. Condense an entire chapter into 2 pages of critical triggers

Also check: Analysis of past 5 years' JEE Main papers shows recurring patterns in PCM chapter-wise questions.

Phase 2: Targeted Problem Solving & PYQs (Weeks 4-6)

  • For every chapter, pick 30 highly conceptual problems rather than 100 repetitive ones. Ensure 20 of these are Past Year Questions (PYQs) from the last 3-4 years.

  • Never solve math problems casually. Set a timer for 45 minutes for a set of 15 questions. This trains your brain to process mathematical steps faster and cuts down structural delays between reading a question and starting the calculations.

Phase 3: Mixed Mock Tests & Full-Length Simulation (Weeks 7-8)

The real JEE exam doesn't tell you which chapter a question belongs to. Switch your brain rapidly by solving mixed-bag worksheets where a Vector question is immediately followed by a Calculus question.

During full-length mock tests, split the Math section into three passes:

  • Easy - Matrices, Vector dot/cross products, Statistics. Secure these points in the first 15 minutes.
  • Medium - Coordinate Geometry, Definite Integrals with standard properties, Sequences.
  • Tough/Calculation Intensive - P&C, Complex numbers, multi-concept Calculus.

3. Subject-Specific Tactical Breakdown

Calculus is visual. Many complex problems involving continuity, differentiability, area under curves, or maximum/minimum values can be solved instantly. If you know how to draw function.

Algebra questions often look terrifying but contain hidden backdoors. Learn the exact conditions where AM GM HM inequalities break open complex maximum/minimum algebraic expressions.

Coordinate Geometry & Vectors/3D: Visualizing Alignment - These chapters are highly scoring because they follow predictable templates, but they carry a high risk of calculation errors.

  • For Conic Sections, memorize the parametric forms perfectly (𝑎𝑡2, 2𝑎𝑡 for a parabola, etc.).

  • For 3D geometry, visualize planes and lines in space. Focus on finding Shortest Distance between skew lines, foot of perpendicular, and image of a point in a plane.

4. The Weapon of Success

The single biggest differentiator between a 95 percentile and a 99+ percentile student is how they treat their mistakes. Maintain a dedicated Error Log structured like this:

JEE Mains Chapter Wise Weightage

JEE Mains Chapter Wise Weightage

Review this log every single Sunday. Your goal during revision is not to learn 100 new things, but to completely eliminate the repetition of old mistakes.

JEE Mains Exam Pattern 2027

The National Testing Agency releases the JEE Mains exam pattern. Candidates can check the pattern here. As per the paper structure, JEE Main exam consists of three papers - Paper 1 for BE/B.Tech), Paper 2A for BArch), and Paper 2B for BPlan. The B.E./B. Tech (Paper 1) will consist of three sections - Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, consisting of 75 MCQs carrying 300 marks, and the test will be conducted online as a computer-based test.

JEE Main Paper 2A (BArch) will consist of 77 questions carrying 400 marks, and the Paper 2B (BPlan) will have 100 MCQs of 400 marks. JEE Main Paper 2 will be conducted online except for the drawing section of Paper 2A, which is conducted offline.
