What is WB SET?

West Bengal State Eligibility Test (WB SET) is conducted by West Bengal College Service Commission (WBCSC) to determine the eligibility of candidates for Assistant Professor in Universities and Colleges of West Bengal. WBCSC holds the test in two sessions for Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is common for all candidates and Paper 2 is conducted for 33 subjects. Candidates need to obtain minimum qualifying marks in both the papers of SET in aggregate to become eligible for the Assistant Professor post. Candidates who qualify for the exam will be governed by the rules and regulations for the recruitment of Assistant Professor in the state.

The West Bengal College Service Commission (WBCSC) conducts the WB SET (West Bengal State Eligibility Test) for two papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2. The paper 1 is generic in nature and is same for all the candidates who are appearing for the exam. However, the paper 2 is subject specific. A total of 33 subject's xam is take under Paper 2. WB SET Eligibility Criteria 2024

WBCSC has outlined certain eligibility criteria for the WB SET 2024 exam. Check the basic WB SET eligibility criteria 2024 below:

WB SET Age Limit 2024

There is no upper age limit to apply for the WB SET 2024 exam.

WB SET Educational Qualification 2024

  • Candidates who have secured at least 55 per cent marks in their Master’s Degree and belong to any UGC accredited Universities/Institutions are eligible for the test.
  • The Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to non-creamy layer/ Economically Weaker Section (EWS) Candidates/ Scheduled Caste (SC)/ Scheduled Tribe (ST)/ persons with disability (PWD) category candidates who have secured at least 50 per cent marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination are eligible for the test.
  • Candidates who have appeared for their Master’s degree (final year) examination and whose result is still awaited or candidates whose qualifying examinations have been delayed may also apply for the test. However, such candidates shall be considered eligible for Assistant Professor only after they have passed their Master's Degree OR equivalent examination with at least 55 per cent marks [50 per cent marks in case of OBC falling in Non-creamy layer/EWS/SC/ST/PWD (persons with disability) category candidates].
  • Candidates from the transgender category will enjoy the same relaxation in fee and qualifying criteria for SET as applicable to SC/ST/PWD categories.
  • The PhD degree holders whose Master’s level examination was completed by September 19, 1991, shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5 per cent in aggregate marks, which means the qualifying percentage for them is 50 per cent.
  • Candidates who have passed UGC NET/CSIR JRF exam before 1989 don’t need to appear for WB SET.

NOTE: Candidates can apply for the subject studied in their post-graduation only. If the subject studied in post-graduation is not covered in the list of subjects, the candidates can apply for related subjects.

WB SET Syllabus 2024

WB SET syllabus 2024 is prescribed by the WBCSC for Paper 1 and 2. The WB SET Paper 1 syllabus comprises topics from Teaching and Research Aptitude. On the other hand, the Paper 2 syllabus differs for all 33 subjects. Candidates should study each and every topic of the syllabus in detail.  

WB SET Selection Process 2024

The WB SET selection process involves the following stages:

Step 1: Fill WB SET Application Form

Candidates need to fill WB SET application form on the official website of the exam. After filling the application form, candidates need to save the confirmation page.

Step 2: Download WB SET Admit Card

Candidates need to download the WB SET admit card and carry it to the exam centre on the day of the examination. WB SET admit card contains the candidate's name, photograph, signature, roll number and test centre details.

Correction in the WBSET 2024 Admit Card

The WB SET board will release the guidelines to make corrections to the WBSET 2024 admit card. The guidelines have been given below for the candidates. Follow the guidelines to make corrections in the WB SET 2024 admit card:

  • Any type of correction will be done after the verification attendance sheet and valid ID proof of the candidate (Adhaar Card/ Passport/ Voter Id/Driving License)
  • The verification will be done by the officer in charge of the test center along with the signature and official seal 
  • The candidates have to provide two passport-size photographs to the officer in charge at the test centre 
  • The admit card must be self-attested
  • The officer in charge will be the sole authority for making corrections to the admit card and his/her decision will be final

The WB SET result 2024 was released by the Commission based on the objections by the candidates on the provisional answer key. Six per cent of the total appearing candidates have been declared pass in the WB SET examination, as per the UGC rules. Candidates can check the SET results using the given steps:
