The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct Day 2 of the JEE Main 2026 session 1 exam today, January 22. The shift 1 exam will start at 9 am. The candidates who have their exams in shift 1 must reach the exam centres allotted to them via their admit card by 7 am. The frisking, document verification, biometrics, etc will be done at the centre.

JEE Mains 2026 January 22 LIVE: Today, NTA will hold day 2 of the JEE Main 2026 January session. The exam will be held for Paper 1 - BE/BTech candidates in two shifts. The shift 1 exam will be held from 9 am to 12 noon, and the JEE Main 2026 timing for the Jan 22 shift 2 exam is 3 pm to 6 pm.

The candidates who will appear for the shift 1 exam today must prepare their exam day kit in advance to carry. The kit must include a printed copy of their admit card with self-declaration, a valid government-issued photo ID (same as uploaded in the application form), two additional photographs (same as uploaded in the application form), and a PWD certificate, if needed.

JEE Main 2026 Exam Timing for Jan 22 Shift 1 & 2

JEE Mains Jan 22 Shift 1: Reporting time, Gate Closing time and Important Deadlines

  • 7 am: Reporting time
  • 07.00 am to 08.30 am: Entry in the Examination Centre/Hall/Room, frisking, biometric registration/ record of manual attendance by Invigilator, document verification/crosschecking of Admit Card, signature, and photo match to be completed by Invigilator, etc.
  • 08.30 am: Gate closes. No candidates are allowed in the exam centre beyond this deadline.
  • 08.30 am to 08.50 am: Instructions by the Invigilators
  • 8:50 am: Candidates login to read instructions
  • 9 am: Shift 1 exam starts
  • 12 Noon: Shift 1 exam ends

JEE Mains Shift 2 Jan 22: Reporting time, Gate Closing time and Important Deadlines

  • 1 pm: Reporting time
  • 01.00 pm to 02.30 pm: Entry in the Examination Centre/Hall/Room, frisking, biometric registration/ record of manual attendance by Invigilator, document verification/crosschecking of Admit Card, signature, and photo match to be completed by Invigilator, etc.
  • 02.30 pm: Gate closes. No candidates are allowed in the exam centre beyond this deadline.
  • 02.30 pm to 02.50 pm: Instructions by the Invigilators

Documents to Carry at JEE Main Exam Centre

All students travelling to their exam centres for the January 22 exam must have the following documents ready:

Required Documents for All Candidates Specific Documents (If Applicable)
JEE Main 2026 Admit Card: You must carry a printed copy of your hall ticket PWD Certificate: This must be carried by candidates claiming relaxation under the Persons with Disabilities category.
Valid Government ID Proof (same as uploaded in the application form): This is necessary to verify your identity at the gate. Non-Aadhaar Declaration: This document is required for candidates who are not using Aadhaar for their biometric verification.
Two Photographs (same as uploaded in the application form): These are required for the attendance sheet verification process. Photo Verification Document: Candidates should carry additional photo verification documentation as specified by the NTA via email.
Self Declaration: Paste the photo and put left hand thumb impression before reaching the centre. Space for signature is to be left blank and has to be done at the exam hall in the presence of an invigilator. -

JEE Main 2026 Jan Session Day 2: Biometric Capture at JEE Main 2026 Exam Centre

Candidates who will be using their Aadhaar for entry must ensure their Aadhaar biometrics are UNLOCKED before arriving at the centre. It is essential to facilitate a smooth and uninterrupted Aadhaar-based biometric verification process at the designated examination centres.

Non-Aadhaar registered students: Those candidates who did not register through Aadhaar (or chose authentication through non-Aadhaar options), need to report early on the day of the examination (at least 1 hour before the gate closing time) to get their biometrics recorded at the exam centre.

Also, apart from the biometric attendance and frisking at entry, if a candidate goes bio-break/toilet, they will have to undergo the mandatory frisking and biometrics again.

Additional Important Exam Day Guidelines & Dress Code

  • There is no specific dress code for JEE Mains, however, one specific thing that NTA mentions is that "Shoes with thich sole and garments with large buttons are not allowed". Also, Sikh candidates are allowed to carry religious or customary items such as a Kara or Kirpan.
  • Students were allowed only a transparent, simple ballpoint pen and a transparent water bottle. Exceptions were made for diabetic candidates, who were permitted to carry specific food items or tablets, but for most, electronic gadgets, pencil boxes, and even certain types of jewellery were strictly prohibited.

    What Day 2 Students Should Learn from JEE Main 2026 Day 1 Exam?

    Based on the Day 1 (January 21, 2026) exam analysis, students appearing for the JEE Main Day 2 shifts should focus on these critical takeaways:

    Mathematics (Toughest Section): Consistently rated as the most challenging and time-consuming section.

    Girls should take care of some specific items that they should try to avoid on the exam day. Check below:

    Avoid these:

    1. Avoid heavy jackets, padded coats, trench coats, or hoodies with thick linings, and multiple layers of thick clothing.
