The JEE Advanced exam pattern is dynamic. It changes every year. The only known aspect of the JEE Advanced exam pattern are:

  1. The number of papers: There are two papers - paper 1 and paper 2.

Instructions related to reporting at JEE Advanced centre:

  • Reach the exam centre on time. Check reporting time on admit card.
  • There are currently no COVID-19-related restrictions issued by the Government of India.

Exam hall entry related:

  • Candidates will not be allowed to enter exam hall without a printed copy of their downloaded admit card and a valid original photo identity car
  • Identity of the candidate will be checked by invigilators.
  • All candidates will undergo extensive frisking before entering exam centre.

Inside exam hall:

  • Inside exam hall, only pens, pencils, transparent bottles of drinking water, downloaded admit card, and an original photo identity card are allowed.
  • Items such as watches, mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, and electronic gadgets are not allowed, along with any papers, writing materials, calculators, or bags.
  • Candidates are advised not to wear items containing metals or charms and are encouraged to wear open footwear like chappals or sandals.
  • Appearing in both Paper 1 and 2 is mandatory for evaluation/grading.

Dress Code

Mock test released by organising IITs are very useful in understanding the pattern and difficulty level of exam. However, solving official mock test paper only is not advised. It is recommended to solve additional mock test to score good marks in JEE Advanced.

Yes, candidates can register for IIT JEE only using the application number of NTA JEE Mains. Also, candidates can apply for JEE Advanced only if they score above the JEE cutoff.

Overall, 50-55% seats are reserved in IITs. The break-up of reservation is - 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, 10% for Gen-EWS and 5% horizontal reservation for PwD candidates.

Physics is the most difficult of all three subjects asked in the JEE Advanced exam. Many students also finds Maths as the toughest. It largely depends upon the understanding of candidates and how well the students are equipped with basic knowledge of any subject.
