Management Aptitude Test or MAT is a national-level MBA entrance test conducted for admission to over 600 B-Schools across India. The All India Management Association (AIMA) conducts MAT four times in a year, in the month of February, May, September and December. MAT registration process for December exams (IBT and CBT) is currently underway. Interested candidates can fill the online application form on the official website.

Every year lakhs of students take MAT to seek admission in to reputed B-schools of India offering MBA courses. MAT exam is conducted four times (February, May, September and December) in a year in Computer Based Test (CBT) as well as Paper Based Test (PBT) mode. MAT 2020 exam for February session was conducted in CBT mode on February 2 and PBT mode on February 16. AIMA cancelled the May session exams due to coronavirus outbreak and introduced a new mode of test (Remotely Proctored Internet Based Test or IBT) where in candidates can appear for the test from home or any safe location. MAT 2020 IBT is remotely proctored by the exam authrities. The candidates can take the test on their desktop or laptop with webcam on a day and slot of their preference. 

MAT IBT exam slots:

  • 10 AM to 12:30 PM
  • 4 PM to 6:30 PM
  • 6 PM to 8:30 PM

In September, MAT was conducted in IBT and PBT modes. MAT exam was conducted in PBT mode on December 6 while the CBT mode is scheduled for December 28. MAT 2020 Registration Process

Candidates must register online for MAT exam registration 2020 through MAT’s official website. Entries in the MAT registration form should be filled only in English. Given below is the step by step process to fill MAT registration form: 

  1. To register for MAT exam, the candidates are required to create a login account on AIMA MAT
  2. After creation of login ID, the candidates are required to log on and fill the MAT application form
  3. Fill in the MAT 2020 registration form and verify the details furnished
  4. Select exam mode, test city choices, payment mode and process the payment by clicking on “Save & Next” button
  5. Pay the MAT registration fee through Debit/ Credit Card/ Net Banking/Wallet or UPI.

MAT 2020 Registrations: Documents Required

The candidates will require the following documents to fill the MAT application form. Make sure you have these handy documents before you start filling the MAT registration form.

  • Image of scanned photograph in jpg/jpeg format. File size should not be less than 40 KB
  • Image of scanned signature in jpg/jpeg format. File size should not be less than 10 KB
  • Debit/Credit Card/Net Banking/Paytm wallet details
  • Educational qualification details

MAT 2020 Registrations: Photo and Signature Specifications

  • Photograph- Photograph must be a recent passport size colour photo. Make sure that the photo is taken against a light coloured, preferably white background and has no shadow. If you wear glasses, make sure that there is no reflection and your eyes are clearly seen. Also, ensure that both ears are visible in the photo. Photos with caps, hats and dark glasses are not acceptable. Religious headwear is allowed but it must not cover your face. The photo image file should only be in .jpg or.jpeg format. (Note: Size of file should not be less than 40KB)
  • Signature- Sign on white paper with black ink pen and scan it. Please scan the signature area only and not the entire page.

MAT Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must be a graduate from a recognized university in any stream or equivalent from a recognised university
  • Candidates who are in their final year of graduation are also eligible to apply for MAT
  • There is no age limit or minimum score in graduation criteria for MAT

MAT Syllabus

MAT syllabus is prescribed by AIMA and it comprises general topics of verbal, analytical and reasoning skills along with knowledge of current affaiirs. The syllabus of MAT is similar to othet MBA entrance exams. 

  • Mathematical Skills: Topics in this section include basic and advanced level of Geometry, Algebra, Triginometry, Mensuration and Modern Math.
  • Language Comprehension: It contains Reading Comprehension and Verbal Ability. A fair amount of questions is asked from English Grammar.
  • Intelligence and Critical Reasoning: This certain section is designed to check the intelligence and critical reasoning of the candidates. The topics covered under this section focus on Passage Conclusion, Statement Argument, Analogy Based Questions, etc.
  • Data Analysis and Sufficiency: This section judges a candidate's proficiency in Data Analysis and Sufficiency. It includes topics such as Graphs (area and line), Data Sufficiency, Venn Diagram, Pie Charts, etc.
  • Indian and Global Environment: This section tests the candidate’s general awareness of Indian Economy and Global Environment Awareness.

MAT Result 2020

MAT 2020 result cum scorecards are available on the official website. The MAT scorecard consists of the scaled score of each section and the percentile. Candidates scoring 400 and more than that, receive calls from premier MBA colleges accepting MAT score. Candidates will not get MAT 2020 result cum scorecard via post. It can be obtained in online mode. Once available, candidates need to take print outs of the scorecard for future reference.

  • MAT result consists of three scores which are - MAT Scaled Score, MAT Percentile and MAT Composite Score
  • While the MAT Composite Score ranges on a scale of 199- 801, MAT Scaled Score ranges on a scale of 0-100 in each section
  • The MAT scaled score is converted to MAT percentile which is dependent on the relative performance of candidates
  • MAT percentile is calculated out of 160 marks. The score of the Indian and Global Environment is not taken into account while MAT percentile is calculated

MAT is overall an easy exam, but if you compare the sections, usually the Quantitative Aptitude is considered tougher than rest of the four sections, due to calculation intensive questions.

All the MAT sections have same weightage, i.e. 30 questions and 30 marks. So candidates must keep in mind to prepare each section properly and poor performance in one section can affect overall score.

You don't strictly need CAT to get into GIBS Business School. They accept both CAT and MAT scores, but even if you haven't appeared for them, you can still get admission through their direct admission or interview process.
