APPSC Group 1 Exam Pattern–Prelims Exam

APPSC Group 1 prelims exam is the objective type exam which is conducted through the Computer-Based Test (CBT) in the online mode. APPSC conducts the prelims exam at the designated centres across the states.

The APPPSC Group 1 prelims exam has two objective type question papers. Each paper contains 120 questions. Each question carries one mark and the time limit for each paper is two hours.

APPSC Group 1 prelims work as a screening exam for the main exam. The marks secured in the prelims exam will not be counted for the final merit list. The candidates need to compete in the main exam for selection in the APPSC Group 1 exam.

Negative Marking

There is a provision of negative marking in the APPSC Group 1 prelims exam and the candidates need to mark their answers carefully. As per the notified rule, for each wrong answer, the candidates will be penalised with 1/3rd of the marks prescribed for the question. It means that three wrong answers will eat up one right answer. So the candidates need to avoid the guesswork in the prelims exam.

APPSC Group 1 Exam Pattern–Main Exam

The APPSC has notified the news exam pattern for the APPSC Group 1 exam by introducing a new paper of Polity and Constitution as paper III. Previously, there was a combined paper of History and Constitution and the total number of papers in the APPSC Group 1 main exam was six only but now it is seven.

The APPSC Group 1 main exam is the most important stage of the APPSC Group 1 exam as the marks secured by the candidates in this exam is considered for the final result. The main exam is a descriptive type test and the candidates need to write the essay type conventional answers to the questions asked.

The APPSC Group 1 main exam pattern is as follows

APPSC Group 1 Main Exam – Paper Pattern

All questions will be compulsory.

Paper - I

General Essay - on contemporary themes & issues of regional, national & international importance.

There will be Three Sections – The candidates need to write three essays – One from each section.

There will be a choice in each of the topics.

Each essay will carry 50 marks.

History and Cultural and Geography of India and Andhra Pradesh

Paper- III

Polity, constitution, Governance, Law and Ethics

There will be Three Sections

The candidates need to do 5 questions from each section. There will be a choice in the questions itself.

Each question will carry 10 marks.

Paper - IV

Economy and Development of India and Andhra Pradesh

Paper -V

Science, Technology and Environmental Issues

There will be 15 questions and the candidates need to do all the questions. There will be a choice in each of the questions.

Each question will be 10 marks

APPSC Group 1 Exam Pattern – Interview

The candidates who qualify in the APPSC Group 1 main exam as given above will be called for the interview. The APPSC Group 1 interview will be conducted at the commission’s premises in Vijayawada. The candidates will be asked questions from their own academic background, their city of residence or city of education, current events and the issues important for Andhra Pradesh.
