- AIEEE was replaced by JEE Main and JEE Advanced.
- While JEE Main was mandatory for admission to NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, etc, it became a qualifying exam for JEE Advanced, which is a must for IIT admission.

- The National Testing Agency (NTA) took charge of JEE Mains.
- Two attempts in JEE Main was implemented.
- The exam was transformed to a computer-based mode from a traditional pen-and-paper-based test.
