NIT Rankings by MHRD NIRF, THE, BW, QS have been released for Engineering courses. Check top ranked Engineering colleges/ institutions with scores below.

NIT Rankings 2022 have been released by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). There are a total of 31 NITs in India for which rankings have been published. The most popular among all the NITs are NIT Tiruchirappalli and NIT Karnataka, as they are the only NITs that have been ranked globally. The NITs have been ranked by various based on various parameters.

Parameters of NIRF Ranking for Engineering

The rankings are primarily based on 5 parameters:

  • Teaching and Learning Resources(TLR)
  • Graduation Outcome(GO)
  • Perception(PR)
  • Outreach and Inclusivity(OI)
  • Research and Professional Practice(RP)

Since 2018, participation has been made compulsory for institutes receiving public grants from the government.

NIT Ranking by THE

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2019 includes more than 1,250 universities, making it our biggest international league. According to THE NIT Ranking, only two institutes have been ranked out of the 31 NITs in India.

National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela has been ranked between 501–600 and National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli is ranked between 601–800.

The QS World Ranking is based on the global overall and subject rankings (which name the world's top universities for the study of 48 different subjects and five composite faculty areas).

As per the world university ranking by QS, out of all the NITs, NIT Rourkela has been given rank 27 and NIT Trichy has bagged 29.

The ranking has been provided on the basis of various parameters such as:

  • Public Status
  • Research Output
  • Total Students
  • Academic Faculty Staff
  • International Students

NIT Ranking by Business Week (BW)

In the Business Week global ranking, out of all the NITs, only one has been ranked i.e NIT Trichy. The rank obtained by NIT Trichy is between 800 -1000. All of the institutes have not been ranked by Business Week.

NIT Admission Process

For admission to NITs, interested candidates have to appear in a common entrance test. For UG courses engineering programmes, are done through JEE Mains exam. Since Dec 2018, National Testing Agency (NTA) has taken over the authority to conduct JEE Mains which is held twice a year in January and April.

Apart from UG programmes, the NIT colleges in India also offers M.Tech, MBA, PhD and dual degree programmes in various branches of engineering.
