As of now, the National Testing Agency will soon launch the official website for CUET UG 2027. Once made active, NTA will release the CUET UG 2027 Information Bulletin, CUET 2027 syllabus, and open the CUET 2027 application window.

Why is CUET Exam Important?

After Class 12, to get admission to undergraduate courses, students have to take entrance exams required by their target university. These include the CUET UG exam, JEE exam, NEET exam, or any other entrance test required. Common University Entrance Test is one of the most taken entrance exam by students for UG admissions. Majority of universities that earlier used to conduct their own entrance tests are now accepting CUET UG scores only.

CUET or Common University Entrance Test, is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency. More than 10 lakh students register for CUET UG exam every year, making it a highly competitive examination. Around 200 universities, including Delhi University, Banaras Hindu University, Allahabad University, Aligarh Muslim University, etc., accept CUET UG scores for admission. Candidates seeking admission have to meet their target college's cut off marks, subject mapping, and CUET eligibility criteria.

What is the Purpose of CUET Exam?

National Testing Agency conducts Common University Entrance Test (UG) for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered by CUET participating universities.

When was CUET first implemented?

The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) was first implemented in 2022. Before that, universities used to conduct their own entrance exams or offer admission on merit basis. Earlier, only central universities used to conduct the common entrance test, i.e., CUCET. After that, in 2022, it was changed to a national-level common entrance test all participating universities.

Who conducts the CUET UG exam?

National Testing Agency has the authority to conduct CUET UG exam. Its duties include conducting the application process, designing test papers, releasing exam dates & information brochure, issuing city slip & admit card, administering exam across exam centres, and releasing answer key & result. After the CUET result declaration, NTA's role with CUET exam for that session ends.

Where is CUET conducted?

CUET is conducted across multiple exam centres in India and abroad. As per last year's CUET exam centre list, NTA conducts the entrance test in around 306 cities in India and 15 cities abroad. Candidates have to select cities in the order of their preference. However, candidates must note that NTA has the right to allot exam city not selected by them, if required due to technical or logistical reasons.

What is the Medium of CUET Exam?

CUET is conducted in 13 languages - English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu. If there is any change in the medium of exam, the same is updated in the information bulletin.

The CUET participating universities include:

How Many Students Appear for CUET UG Exam?

The table below mentions the data for number of students registered and appeared for CUET UG exam over the past three years:

The eligibility criteria to appear for CUET exam and get admission at a university are two different things. The National Testing Agency prescribes the CUET exam eligibility conditions in the information bulletin every year and the participating universities share their course-wise eligibility requirements in their admission brochure. Candidates must meet both criteria to pursue UG course.

NTA CUET Exam Eligibility

Candidates can see the NTA CUET eligibility conditions given below:

• Students must have passed Class 12 or appeared in Class 12 from a recognised board (any stream).
• For the General category, the candidate needs to secure a minimum of 50% in Class 12;
• SC/ST, candidates must have secured a minimum of 45% in Class 12.
• For BTech programmes, the minimum aggregate for the General category candidates is 45%, and that of the reserved category candidates is 40%. 

University-Specific CUET Eligibility

The basic eligibility requirements by universities include:

• Class 12 subject
• Minimum qualification
• Minimum Class 12 marks
• Course-Wise CUET subject combination
• Course-specific requirements, if any
• Category-related requirements, if any

The CUET UG 2027 application form will be released by National Testing Agency at cuet.nta.nic.in. To apply for the examination, candidates must first read the important guidelines in the information bulletin, register for the exam, and then fill out the CUET application form. The online form is likely to be released in January 2027.

The NTA prescribes the CUET application fee in the information bulletin for each category separately. The candidates can see the category-wise application fee below:

Is APAAR ID Mandatory for CUET Registration 2027?

As of last year, providing APAAR ID is not mandatory for candidates while filling the online form. Students who don't have the ID can simply select the NO checkbox and continue with the form.

Will NTA Open CUET Form Correction Window?

Yes, after the registration window and fee payment window is closed, NTA will open CUET application form correction window for registered candidates to make changes in their online form. While filling the form, candidates must know the editable & non-editable fields in CUET correction window to avoid making mistakes in non-editable details.

While filling out the CUET application form, students have to select up to five subjects to appear for the entrance test. This is one of the most crucial steps for a candidate, as one mistake can result in decreased or zero chances of getting admission to their target course & college. Each participating university or college shares its course-wise subject mapping criteria. Candidates must carefully check them and opt for subjects in the online form accordingly.

Note: If a university mandates only 2 subjects for a course, try to opt the rest three subjects in a way that it can open options to other courses or colleges in case things don't pan out as per the plan.

How to Select CUET Subjects?

CUET Sections

There are three sections in CUET UG exam, including:

• Section I - Language: Tests language skills, such as comprehension and vocabulary
• Section II - Domain Subjects: Tests subject-specific understanding & knowledge
• Section III - General Aptitude Test: Tests general awareness, logical thinking & mental ability

CUET Number of Questions & Duration

CUET Marking Scheme

The exam paper of a candidate is evaluated by considering the following CUET marking scheme:

• Candidates will be awarded 5 marks for each correct answer
• For every incorrect answer, 1 mark will be deducted.
• No marks will be awarded or deducted for unattempted questions.
• If more than one option is found correct, 5 marks will be awarded to those who have marked any of correct options.
• If all options are found correct, 5 marks will be awarded to all those who have attempted question.
• If none of the options is found correct/ Dropped, 5 marks will be awarded to students who have attempted question.

CUET Total Marks 

As per the marking scheme laid out by the National Testing Agency, the CUET Total Marks for a subject is 250 marks. The total maximum marks for a candidate depends on the number of subjects selected in CUET UG online form.

The candidates must prepare all the topics given in the Class XI and XII syllabus because most of the questions will appear from there only. The candidates must solve the previous years' question papers to know the depth of preparation required to clear the exam.
