CSIR NET 2026: The National Testing Agency (NTA) is likely to publish the notification for the June session of CSIR NET 2026 in March. It will be released on the official portal at csirnet.nta.nic.in. The CSIR NET application process will also start with the release of the notification. There will be a deadline to fill the form online. It is also advised to the candidates to read the eligibility criteria properly before filling out the form. 

The CSIR NET exam 2026 will be conducted online and questions with mutliple choice will be asked (MCQs). All the details regarding the exam is provided in the CSIR NET notification like application process, syllabus, pattern, eligibility, important dates, etc. There are five papers are – Mathematical Science, Life Science, Chemical Science, Earth Science, and Physical Science. What is CSIR NET?

Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) NET (also known as CSIR UGC NET) is a national-level exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to determine the eligibility of candidates for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and for Lectureship (LS)/ Assistant Professor in the universities and colleges of India. Candidates clearing the CSIR NET exam can become lecturers in the subject areas falling under the faculty of Science & Technology only. CSIR NET June Application Form will be released at csirnet.nta.nic.in. The application form will be released along with the notification PDF. Candidates can check below the methods accurately to fill out the application form:

  • At first, the candidates are required to register themselves online
  • Login with the credentials used during the registration process
  • Fill out the application form available with the application number & password shared on your email ID and phone number
  • Upload the scanned documents as per requirements. The instructions for the same will be available there
  • After submitting the form, pay the application fee through the online payment gateways available

CSIR NET Eligibility Criteria 2026 

Eligibility criteria consists of educational qualification, age limit, etc. The basic CSIR NET Eligibility Criteria 2026 that candidates must fulfil are mentioned below:

CSIR NET Educational Qualification 2026

  • Candidates should have obtained a degree in BTech/BE/BPharma/MBBS/BS (four years)/Integrated BS-MS/MSc with a minimum of 55 per cent marks for General (UR)/General-EWS and OBC (50 per cent for SC/ST, Third gender and PwD) 

CSIR NET Age Limit 2026

  • To apply for CSIR NET JRF, candidates should be a maximum of 30 years of age. The upper age limit is relaxable for up to 5 years for SC/ST/Third gender/PwD/Females and up to 3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer).
  • There is no upper age limit to apply for the post of Lectureship (LS)/ Assistant Professor

CSIR NET Exam Date 2026

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will announce the CSIR NET NTA June exam date on the official website at csirnet.nta.nic.in. It will be conducted as a computer-based test in two shifts. The CSIR NET exam date will be mentioned in the Information bulletin or official notification. First shift will be from 9 am to 12 noon and the second shift will be from 3 pm to 6 pm.

CSIR NET Syllabus & Pattern 2026

Joint CSIR UGC NET Syllabus for all five subjects, namely Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Physical Sciences, is mentioned below.

The CSIR NET exam consists of three parts namely Part A, B and C. Part A covers General Aptitude and is common to all the aspirants while Part B and C are subject specific. Therefore, understanding the syllabus is crucial for the effective preparation. The syllabus of the CSIR NET exam consists of the important topics required for the preparation of an exam.

  • Numerical Ability- Number and Simplification; Average; Quadratic Equations; Sequence and Series; Surd and Indices; Logarithms; Percentage; Profit and Loss; Simple Interest & Compound Interest; Partnership; LCM and HCF; Probability; Mensuration.

  • Chemical Sciences- Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Interdisciplinary topics, etc.

CSIR NET 2026 Exam Pattern

The NTA CSIR NET Question Paper is divided into three sections- Part A, B and C. Part 'A' shall be common to all subjects. This part shall be a test containing a maximum of 20 questions of General Aptitude. The candidates shall be required to answer any 15 questions for two marks each. The total marks allocated to this section shall be 30 out of 200.

The CSIR NET Part A consists of General Aptitude questions that assess the candidates’ teaching/research aptitude, reasoning ability, comprehension skills, divergent thinking and general awareness.

The CSIR NET Part B and C consist of questions that are based on the subjects chosen by candidates from the following five subjects - Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Physical Sciences.

CSIR NET Recruitment Process 2026 & Toppers Interview

The CSIR NET recruitment process consists of registration online, filling of the application form, fee payment, CBT exam, answer key, admit card, result declaration, etc. The complete process for the CSIR NET Exam is explained below:

Filling up the CSIR UGC NET Application Form

In the first step, candidates need to fill out the apply online form and submit it along with the payment of fees.

CSIR NET Exam 

In the next step, NTA CSIR NET Exam will be conducted in online mode for all the candidates who successfully submit their completely filled forms before the last date.

Announcement of Result

The Scorecard is declared in two categories-

  1. One merit list who qualifies for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF-NET)
  2. The second merit list is for the candidates who qualify for the eligibility test for lectureship (LS-NET)

Interview

The next phase of the selection process is an interview. Qualified candidates, who will be shortlisted on the basis of the merit list will have to face personal interviews in different institutions, laboratories and University departments.

Award of Fellowship

Fellowship will be provided only to those candidates who are able to enrol for PhD in research institutes/ laboratories and Universities within two years of the declaration of the result of the Exam.
