IBPS PO Exam Pattern 2026
- Prelims exam: The test consists of three parts, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning Ability. There are a total of 100 questions. The total marks for the test are 100. The duration of the exam is 60 minutes.
- Mains exam: The mains exam has both objective and descriptive tests. The objective test have questions from Reasoning & Computer Aptitude, General/Economy/Banking Awareness, English Language, and Data Analysis & Interpretation. The Descriptive Test comprises English Language (Letter Writing & Essay). There are a total of 147 questions (Objective 145 + 2 Descriptive). The total marks allotted for the test are 225. The duration of the exam is 160 minutes.
- Interview: The interview is conducted for 100 marks. The test is conducted to know the personality of candidates.

IBPS PO selection process comprises prelims, mains and interview. All the registered candidates need to appear for the prelims. The exam pattern of prelims comprises three sections. Total marks allotted to the test are 100. Candidates qualifying the prelims exam are called for the mains exam. The mains exam carries both objective and descriptive-type tests. Total marks allotted to the mains exam are 225. The marks obtained in the mains exam are considered to select candidates for the interview. The interview carries 100 marks.

After clearing the online tests of IBPS PO exam, candidates are called to participate in a Personal Interview with a panel of experts. This interview assess the overall suitability for the position of probationary officer, and include questions about their qualifications, work experience, and personal characteristics. After the Personal Interview a merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained in the Mains exam and interview. Candidates who are placed in the merit list are eligible for appointment as a probationary officer in the participating banks. Candidates should note the letter of appointment is issued by the participating banks. Allotment of candidates is done based on merit-cum-preference.

The ratio of candidates selected for an interview are 80:20. Aspirants are selected based on mains exam and their performance in interview is based upon final merit list. The interview is held for 100 marks. The minimum qualifying marks are 40 per cent and for SC/ST/OBC/PWBD are 35 per cent.
