What is Canara Bank PO recruitment?

Canara Bank PO recruitment is conducted to select candidates to the post of Probationary Officers in Junior Grade Scale I after successful completion of the specially designed Post Graduate Diploma in Banking & Finance (PGDBF) course. Canara Bank PGDBF is a one-year training course that candidates can undergo either at Manipal Global Education Services Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru campus, or NITTE Education International Pvt Ltd. Greater Noida campus.

Candidates for admission to the course is selected through the online objective test followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview. The responsibility of conducting the online test has been given to the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) whereas the other selection processes are conducted by Canara Bank. Besides, Canara Bank also recruits candidates to the post of PO based on IBPS PO exam, the selection process includes – prelims and mains exam followed by interview.

Canara Bank PO Eligibility Criteria 2020

The eligibility criteria are the set of guidelines in terms of age, educational qualification, nationality. Candidates need to fulfill these parameters in order to be eligible for Canara Bank PO recruitment. Canara Bank PO eligibility criteria are given below:


  • Candidates must be a citizen of India or
  • Citizen of Nepal or Bhutan or
  • A Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of settling in India
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries like Kenya, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia & Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India
  • Candidates of these countries must make sure that Indian Government has issued them eligibility certificate

Knowledge of Computers

Candidates must have both operating and working knowledge of computers. Candidates who do not have the same should do the same within 6 months from the date of joining the bank.

Knowledge of Hindi

Candidates must know the speak and write in Hindi.

Age Limit: The age of candidates should be between 20 to 30 years. Candidates belonging to the reserved categories will be given relaxation in the upper age limit.

Educational qualification

Candidates must have a degree with a minimum of 60% marks and 55% for SC/ST/PWBD or equivalent grade in any discipline.

The selected candidates will be entitled to a pay scale of Rs 23700 – 980/7 – 30560 – 1145/2 – 32850 – 1310/7 – 42020. They are also entitled to Dearness Allowance, HRA, CCA, Medical Aid, Leave Fare Concession, etc. They will also get conveyance, furniture, etc, depending on the place of their posting.

Filling the application form: Canara Bank PO application form will be available online on the official website. The application fee for the exam is Rs 708 for general candidates while it is Rs 118 for SC/ST/PWBD categories.

Release of admit card: The admit card is released two to three weeks before the exam. Candidates can access Canara Bank PO admit card   online by logging with registration number or roll number and date of birth or password. 

Online Test: The test comprises four subjects, Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, English Language and General Awareness. The question paper will have total of 200 questions. The test carries a total of 200 marks. There will be negative marks for wrong answers. Candidates need to secure the section-wise and overall cut off marks to qualify the exam. Group Discussion and Interview:

The total marks allotted for Group Discussion and Interview are 50. The minimum qualifying marks for the test is 40% for General Candidates (35% for SC / ST/ OBC / PWBD candidates).

Final Selection:

The weightage given to online test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview for final selection are 50:20:30, respectively. Candidates are selected for admission to Canara Bank PGDBF based on their performance in the online test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview

Canara Bank PO Exam Centres 2020

Canara Bank PO exam will be conducted across 188 exam centres. Candidates are advised to give preference of one exam centre while filling the application form. A. The course comprises nine months of classroom studies and three months internship at Canara Bank’s Branches/Offices.
