GATE 2027: Exam Dates OUT, Application, Syllabus, Pattern, Preparation

GATE, otherwise called Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is a national-level engineering entrance exam in India. The exam is hosted by seven IITs and IISc on a rotational basis. GATE paper is conducted for admission to MTech and PhD programs at top engineering institutes like IITs and for recruitment at major PSUs. GATE 2027 application form will be released as per the schedule mentioned in the official brochure. This year, candidates have to provide live facial details during the registration process. Candidates appearing for the exam are advised to go through the details carefully before filling GATE 2027 application form. Applicants must ensure that they have an approved degree program in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Science/Commerce/Arts/Humanities. 

GATE 2027 Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates who have completed their BTech or any undergraduate degree can apply

• Candidates who are currently studying in 3rd year or final year can also register for GATE exam 2027. 

• Professional degree holders such as CA, CS, CMA, or Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of India

• There is no attempt or age limit to apply for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. 

GATE 2027 Application Fee

Candidates must note that the GATE registration fee is different for various categories. The application fee is non-refundable and can be paid through UPI, netbanking, debit or credit card. As per the GATE 2027 official notification, there are no changes in the registration fee. 

Note: The above application fee is for single test paper only. Candidates opting for two test papers through the GATE 2027 two-paper combination will have to pay twice the above mentioned fees. 

How to fill GATE 2027 Application Form?

Candidates who wish to appear for GATE exam this year must note that the registrations is done online through GOAPS portal. Check the detailed process on how to fill application form below:

• Go to official website of GATE 2027

• Click on GOAPS portal link and select “New Candidate Registration”

• Register by providing name, date of birth, mobile number, etc. 

• Once registration is completed, GATE enrolment ID and password will be sent to email ID

• Log in and fill personal and educational qualification details

• Upload documents as per specifications

• Pay GATE registration fee and submit form

NOTE: This year, IIT Madras will conduct GATE 2027 registration through DigiLocker and Facial registration. Candidates are advised to go through the details and required documents for application form-filling.

NOTE: IIT Madras GATE 2027 will be held across 300+ cities across India, divided into 8 zones. While filling form, candidates can select at least three GATE exam centres from the same zone only. Candidates can either select one paper or up to two test papers. Refer to GATE two-paper combination for more details. After the registration is complete, the authorities will open GATE form correction facility.

GATE Exam Syllabus 2027

GATE 2027 will be conducted for 30 subject papers, which can be divided into the following -

• Core Engineering Subjects- (CS, CE, EE, EC, and ME)

• Specialised and Applied Engineering Subjects- (AE, AG, BM, CH, ES, GE, IN, MN, MT, NM, PE, PI, and TF)

• Basic and Applied Sciences Subjects - (BT, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH, ST, and XL)

• Interdisciplinary, Architecture, and Humanities - (AR, DA, XE, and XH)

Note:

• If you are taking Science/Maths/Humanities paper, then Engineering Maths section is dropped. Overall, the question paper will consist of General Aptitude (15 marks) and Core subject (85 marks).

• Regardless of the branch, the GATE exam will always carry 65 questions mixing MSQs, MCQs, and NATs.

Subject-Wise GATE Preparation Tips

Aspirants appearing for GATE 2027 must know that the competition is huge, with an average qualifying rate of 15 to 18%. The best time to start preparing for GATE exam is right from their graduation. This helps in improving basic concepts and important formulas. Here are some quick GATE 2027 preparation tips that can help students to score a good rank in the exam.

• First, go through syllabus carefully. Only study what is mentioned.

• Pick 1 to 2 GATE books per subject. Refer to lecture notes for concept building

• Be clear with fundamentals. Focus heavily on understanding core concepts. If concepts are strong, tough questions get easier.

• Try solving last 10 to 15 years GATE question papers to understand the paper pattern.

GATE Mock Test

The conducting body will activate GATE mock test link after a few days before the exam date. Candidates appearing for the exam can take GATE 2027 exam mock test for free to understand the paper pattern. 

IIT Madras will release GATE admit card 2027 in the first week of January 2027. Candidates can download using their enrollment ID and password from GATE candidate login 2027. The admit card will be made available till the completion of admission and counselling process.

• Go to GOAPS of official website

• Login using enrollment ID and password

• Check details and save admit card.

The GATE 2027 admit card carries important details regarding the exam and applicant. It is advised to carry at least two to three copies to the test center. Also, once must note that center once allocated cannot be changed under any circumstances. 

Note: In case there is any discrepancy in the admit card, then immediately contact the respective GATE zone authorities and get it rectified before the exam date.

Candidates must note that GATE CSE and CE are conducted in multiple shifts. Therefore, it is advised to practice shift-wise question papers to level up your preparation. IIT Madras will declare GATE 2027 results online on its official website. The GATE 2027 result date is March 2027, tentatively. The result will be available in the form of GATE scorecard. To download, candidates have to provide their enrolment ID and password. Here’s how one can check their GATE exam result at GOAPS -

• Go to official website

• Click on GOAPS portal link

• Enter enrolment ID, password, and captcha code

• Check your results and download rank card

NOTE: The conducting body will first announce results, then release GATE minimum qualifying marks for all branches along with GATE topper’s list. 

Candidates can use GATE scorecard for admission at top IITs, IISc, NITs, GFTIs, and other institutions. The GATE 2027 scorecard is valid for three years, i.e till 2030. However, PSUs usually accept scores of current year only.

Qualifying GATE offer multiple opportunities, which can be checked below:

• Postgraduate admission (MTech and PhD) - Candidates can use their GATE scorecard to apply for MTech, ME, and PhD admissions at institutions like IITs, IIITs, NITs, and IISc Bangalore. 

• Study abroad - Candidates can also apply for foreign universities, such as National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), etc. 

• PSU Recruitment - Candidates with valid GATE scorecard 2027, can also apply for Public Sector Undertakings like ONGC, GAIL, AAI, IOCL, NTPC, etc. 

• In addition, with the help of GATE result scorecard, candidates can also use it for the research positions at BARC and DRDO.

Qualified students also receive GATE stipend as scholarship of INR 12,400 per month for two years of the academic session. The stipend amount for PhD applicants is different. To avail scholarship, students have to provide their documents at AICTE portal. 

The cutoff is the minimum qualifying mark required to pass Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. The expected GATE 2027 cutoff varies for different categories and branches. In addition, for admission to top IITs and NITs for top branches like CSE and ECE through GATE, the cutoff is generally high. The GATE cutoff is broadly classified into two: admission cutoff and qualifying cutoff. 

• GATE qualifying cutoff 2027 refers to the minimum marks that is needed to be eligible for GATE counselling. 

• GATE admission cutoff is the minimum score/mark required to be eligible for admission to institutes and colleges.
