Top Law Colleges in India 2026: Ranking, Fees, Courses, Admission, Cutoff
The country's finest legal education and alumni come from the 40 top law colleges in India. Ranked by the nationally trusted NIRF survey in 2025, the National Law Universities in Bengaluru, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Gandhinagar make up the top 5 law schools in India, where NLSIU Bangalore remains the best law university in India.
Besides the tier-1 NLUs in India, private law schools, including Symbiosis Law School, Pune, Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology and Research Academy (SASTRA), and Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, rank above tier-2 NLUs, such as RMLNLU Lucknow and MNLU in Nagpur. Such private law colleges have proven to have better scores across different NIRF's parameters, such as teaching and learning resources (TLC), outreach and inclusion (OI), and graduation outcomes (GO).
Then there are other standard ranking surveys, like India Today-MDRA, which also rank the best law colleges in India outside NIRF. These include LLoyd Law College, Ramaiah College of Law, and Manipal University Jaipur. This guide on top law colleges will help you know about the degrees available, which ones accept admissions without CLAT, with other college/university-level entrance exams, fees, and ROI.
