UGC NET 2026: National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially released the UGC NET December 2026 notification and started online application process at ugcnet.nta.nic.in. Eligible candidates can submit their online application forms from October 8 to October 28, 2026 (until 11:50 PM). The regular fee payment window closes on October 28, 2026, followed by a late fee submission facility available from October 29 to October 31, 2026, and an application correction window from November 2 to November 4, 2026.

The UGC NET December 2026 examination is scheduled to take place from December 14 to December 19, 2026, in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode across two shifts (Shift 1: 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and Shift 2: 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM), with December 20 and 21 kept as buffer dates. Earlier, NTA declared the final results and issued e-certificates for the UGC NET June 2026 exam. UGC NET Latest Updates 2026

National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the UGC NET December 2026 session from December 14 to December 19, 2026, with December 20 and 21, 2026 reserved as buffer dates. The official notification and online application forms for the December session have been released on official portal at ugcnet.nta.nic.in.

Earlier, NTA declared the UGC NET 2026 Re-exam result for the examinations conducted on September 9 and 10 across three subjects. Candidates can check their scorecards and qualifying status using their application number and date of birth. The main June session examination for 84 subjects was held from June 22 to June 30 and July 5, 2026, and the e-certificates have been issued for qualified candidates.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will announce the UGC NET December 2026 results following the conclusion of the examination scheduled from December 14 to December 19, 2026 (with buffer dates on December 20 and 21). The results will be published in the form of scorecards at ugcnet.nta.nic.in using the normalisation percentile score method. Candidates will be able to access and download their scorecards by logging in with their Application Number and Date of Birth.

The results is divided into three categories. The detailed category-wise update has been given below:

  • Category 1:  Candidates qualified with JRF will be eligible for the Junior Research Fellowship, Appointment as Assistant Professors, and Enrollment as PhD scholar. 
  • Category 2: Candidates qualified for NET will be eligible for Assistant Professorship and admission as PhD scholar 
  • Category 3: Based on the marks obtained by the candidates, the candidates will be allowed in the universities as a  PhD scholar

Note: The candidates from Category 2 & 3 will have to go through an interview by the Universities to enroll as a PhD scholar. 70% weightage will be given to the NET score and 30% marks will be based on the interview.

UGC NET Cut Off 2026

National Testing Agency (NTA) will release the category-wise, paper-wise, and subject-wise UGC NET December 2026 cut-off along with the announcement of the December session results at ugcnet.nta.nic.in. Candidates who meet or exceed the prescribed cut-off marks will qualify for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professorship, or Ph.D. admission.

UGC NET Admit Card 2026

National Testing Agency (NTA) will release the UGC NET December 2026 admit card approximately a week prior to the examination scheduled for December 14 to December 19, 2026.

Candidates can download their hall ticket by following these steps:

  • Visit at ugcnet.nta.nic.in
  • Click on the ‘Download Admit Card for UGC-NET June Re-Exam 2026' link
  • Log in using the 'Application Number', 'Date of Birth', and 'Security Pin'
  • Download the UGC NET Admit Card 2026
  • Take the printout for future use

In case, a candidate is not able to download his/her admit card or there is any discrepancy in the particulars given on the admit card, s/he should call the following helpline number of the NTA - 011-40759000. Candidates can call on these numbers on working days from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM. 

In case of any error on the UGC NET admit card, the official website of the exam informs, “In such cases, candidates would appear in the examination with the already downloaded Admit Card. However, NTA will take necessary action to make corrections in the record later.”

The National Testing Agency will release UGC NET city intimation slip 2026 for December re-exam. The candidates can check their exam date and exam centre in the following manner:

UGC NET Answer Key 2026

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will release UGC NET December 2026 provisional answer key after conducting the December session examinations scheduled from December 14 to December 19, 2026 (with buffer dates on December 20 and 21). Along with the provisional answer key, the NTA will also upload the candidates' response sheets and question papers on the official portal at ugcnet.nta.nic.in.

  • Log in using your Application Number and Date of Birth / Password.
  • Download the provisional answer key, question paper, and response sheet.

How to Challenge UGC NET Answer Key? 

The methods to challenge the UGC NET answer key are given below:

  1. Visit at ugcnet.nta.nic.in
  2. Click on the link available for the answer key
  3. Click on any one of the links: Through the application number and password or the application number and date of birth
  4. Enter the application number, password/date of birth, and security PIN (as shown on the screen)
  5. Click on Sign In
  6. Click on the Challenge Answer Key link
  7. Select the correct answer option ID for the question ID for which the challenge needs to be made
  8. Click on the 'Save Your Claims' button
  9. Upload the supporting documents in a single PDF file to support your claim
  10. Click on the ‘Save Your Claims & Pay Fee’ button
  11. Pay INR 200 per question in the online mode

As per the official notice, the payment of the processing fee may be made through (through Credit Card/ Debit Card/Net Banking/UPI Payment Modes). No challenge will be entertained without receipt of the processing fee. The Challenges will not be accepted through any other mode.

UGC NET Posts

The candidates who will qualify for the NET JRF and  Assistant Professorship through the UGC NET will be offered an assistant professor's position or the position of a research scholar. The candidates can get the difference between these two positions below:

  • Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): The candidates who will qualify for the JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) can apply for the position of assistant professor and research scholar. The research scholars will be paid a stipend of 37,000 (for the initial 2 years) and 42,000 (from the 3rd year) to complete their research in a specific field. The candidates qualifying for the JRF can also apply for the position of assistant professor in different universities along with a career as a research scholar. 
  • Assistant Professors: The candidates qualifying for the eligibility exam for the position of Assistant professor can apply for the position to teach in different universities/colleges. The candidates can also apply for the PhD. However, the candidates qualifying for the PhD will not be eligible to get any stipend from the Government to complete their PhD.

UGC NET Eligibility & Application Form 2026

National Testing Agency (NTA) has released UGC NET December 2026 application form on the official website at ugcnet.nta.nic.in along with information bulletin. Online registration window is active from October 8 to October 28, 2026 (up to 11:50 PM). Fee payment without late charges can be completed until October 28, 2026, while applications with a late fee of INR 500 will be accepted from October 29 to October 31, 2026.

Candidates can submit the online application form by following these steps:

  • Visit at ugcnet.nta.nic.in
  • Click on the ‘Application form’ link mentioned at the bottom of the home page
  •  Click on the ‘New Registration’
  • Enter the required details and complete the registration
  • Fill out the complete application form
  • Upload scanned pictures of passport size photo (10-200 kb) and signature (10-50 kb). Both images should be in JPEG format. It should be noted that the candidate must ensure that the uploaded images are clear and proper.
  • Uploading of copy of Pwd/PwBD Disability Certificate/UDID with both side in single pdf. That is candidates are required to upload their Pwd/PwBD Disability Certificate/UDID with both side in same pdf with file size (50kb – 300kb).
  • Pay the application fee (Gen - INR 1,150; OBC/EWS - INR 600; SC/ST/PwD/ Transgender - INR 325)
  • Save and submit the form
  • Download it

What Are The Pre Requisites for Registration Process?

Candidates who wish to apply for the exam must know the pre-requisite information for making an application for the exam. The list of the pre-requisite information has been given below for the candidates that they should keep ready before submitting the online form:

What Is The Size of Photo & Signature To Apply For UGC NET 2026?

The dimensions and the size for the exam photo and signature have been given below for the candidate's ease:

  • UGC NET photo size and dimensions: The photograph must be in the dimension of 3.5cm x 4.5 cm and between 10kb to 200kb in JPG/JPEG format
  • UGC NET signature size: The signature must be in JPG/JPEG 10 kb to 50 kb size

The application form correction window for the December session will be available from November 2 to November 4, 2026 (up to 11:50 PM). Candidates who submit the form successfully can modify specific fields by following these steps:

1. Visit at ugcnet.nta.nic.in

2. Login using the application number and password

3. Click on the link/button available for the application form correction

4. Read the instructions and click on the ‘I Agree' checkbox

5. Click on the Proceed for Application button

6. Make the necessary changes in the application form

Candidates can modify particulars such as choice of exam centre, educational qualifications, or photograph/signature depending on Aadhaar verification status:

  • No change allowed in the mobile number, email address, permanent address & correspondence address
  • No change allowed in candidate’s name, date of birth and gender
  • No change is allowed in the photo

UGC NET 2026 Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria consists of educational qualification, age limit, and relaxation norms for reserved category candidates such as SC, ST, OBC, and PwD. The basic criteria that candidates must fulfill to meet UGC NET Eligibility are mentioned below in terms of the age limit and qualification:

Age Limit 2026

  • Candidates should not be more than 30 years of age to be eligible for UGC NET JRF 
  • There is no age restriction to applying for the post of Assistant Professor
  • A relaxation of five years in age criteria is given to reserved category candidates

Educational Qualification 2026

  • General/Unreserved candidates must hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) with at least 55% aggregate marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD/Third Gender) from a UGC-recognized university.
  • Candidates in the final year of their Master’s degree or those awaiting results are eligible to apply on a provisional basis.
  • Candidates pursuing or possessing a 4-year undergraduate degree with at least 75% marks are eligible for JRF and Ph.D. admission.

UGC NET Pattern, Syllabus & Preparation 2026

UGC NET Syllabus is prescribed by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The Syllabus is different for Paper 1 and Paper 2. The Paper 1 syllabus is common for all candidates.
