NDA 2026: The Union Public Service Commission is expected to release the NDA 2 2026 admit card three or four days prior to the examination date. It will be released on the official portal at upsc.gov.in. The NDA 2 2026 exam will be conducted on September 13. The Commission conducts the NDA 2026 exam twice every year.

NDA 2026 Exam Latest Updates

The UPSC successfully conducted the NDA 1 exam and NDA 2 will be held on September 6. The NDA admit card will be issued on the official portal at upsc.gov.in. The  NDA 2 application form  dates were May 20 to June 11. The exam is conducted for admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the NDA for the 157th Course and for the 119th Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC) commencing from January 1, 2027. Q:   What is the training process after joining NDA?
A: 

The selected candidates for the three services-Army,  Navy and Air Force are given preliminary training both academic and physical for a period of three years at the National Defence Academy which is an Inter-Service Institution. The training during
the first two and half years is common to the cadets of three wings. All the cadets on passing out are awarded degrees from Jawaharlal Nehru University Delhi as under:
(a) Army Cadets: BSc/ BSc (Computer)/ BA
(b) Naval Cadets: B Tech Degree
(c) Air Force Cadets: B Tech Degree /B Sc/BSc  (Computer)
All the cadets undergoing B.Sc/B.Sc (Computer)/BA Degree programme are awarded the degree on the successful completion of Academics, Physical and Service Training at NDA.
All the cadets undergoing B Tech programme are awarded the B Tech degree on the subsequent Pre Commissioning Training
Academies/ Institutions/ Ships/ Air Craft
The selected candidates of the Naval Academy are given preliminary training both academic and physical, for a period of four years at Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala. The cadets of 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme are awarded a B Tech Degree on successful completion of training.

Q:   What are the passing marks in NDA?
A: 

Candidates are required to score a minimum of around 25 per cent marks in each subject to clear the NDA written exam. The total marks allotted to the written exam are 900. Besides the subject-wise cut off marks, the examination authority also decides overall cut off marks for different defence services. Candidates are required to secure both section-wise and overall cut off marks. To be in the final merit list, candidates are required to secure separate qualifying marks in the written exam and SSB interview.

UPSC National Defence Academy examination is one of the most sought-after defence exams in the country to select candidates for admission to the National Defence Academy and Indian Naval Academy courses. NDA Full Form

Full Form of NDA stands for National Defence Academy. The National Defence Academy & Naval Academy examination is a prestigious defence entrance exam. Another NDA full form also stands for the National Democratic Alliance. One is the defence entrance exam, and the other is the political party.

Location

The National Defence Academy (NDA) is located in Khadakwasla, Pune, Maharashtra, India. It is the first tri-colour academy that trains male and female cadets together for NDA Army, Navy and Air Force. After passing out from the organisation, candidates are trained in the respective service academies-Air Force Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Indian Military Academy.

Q:   What is the difference between NDA 1 and 2 exams?

There is no difference between UPSC NDA 1 and 2 exams. NDA 1 exam is conducted for admission to the January batch. Whereas, NDA 2 exam is conducted for admission to July batch.

National Defence Academy or NDA exam is conducted twice a year by Union Public Service Commission for admission to  Army, Navy and Air Force wings of NDA and Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC). It is the most sought-after defence entrance exams in the country where both male and female candidates can apply.

The exam is conducted in two stages: written exam and SSB Interview. In 2020, a total of 5.3 Lacs candidates had applied for the exam, out of which 2.4 Lacs candidates appeared for the exam. UPSC prepares a list of candidates who obtain minimum qualifying marks in the written exam. Such candidates are called for SSB Interview for Intelligence and Personality Test.

NDA Syllabus 2026

NDA syllabus is prescribed by UPSC. The standard of the syllabus is of high school level. UPSC NDA/NA syllabus carries subjects such as Maths and GAT. It is necessary to be thorough with the NDA syllabus. Candidates can check below the topics included in the syllabus of NDA exam 2026.

  1. NDA Math Syllabus-Matrices and Determinants, Integral Calculus and Differential Equations, Trigonometry, Vector Algebra, Analytical Geometry Of Two and Three Dimension and Statistics and  Probability, Algebra, etc.

NDA SSB is the body that schedule, organise and conduct SSB interview for the aspirants applying for Indian Military Forces. SSB Interview is conducted at the NDA SSB Centres. The NDA SSB interview is conducted for Intelligence and Personality Test. Aspirants applying for the Air Force have to separately qualify for the CPSS (Computerized Pilot Selection System) & PABT (Pilot Aptitude Battery Test).

The result of NDA is announced online by UPSC. Those candidates who will qualify will be called for the SSB according to the academy and force opted by the candidates. NDA Cutoff 2026

NDA cutoff for the written exam will be released after the completion of recruitment process. The commission releases cutoffs for written exam and SSB Interview. The cutoff for the written exam is calculated out of 900. The final cutoff is calculated based on the marks secured by the last recommended candidates out of 1800 marks (900 marks of written exam and 900 marks of SSB Interview).

The qualifying cutoff marks prescribed for each subject are 25 per cent. Candidates are required to qualify the exam by securing separate cutoff marks in the written exam and SSB Interview. Candidates can check below the previous years' NDA 1 & NDA 2 cut off marks.

Q:   What is the impact of NDA cut off in tie-breaking policy?

Wherever two or more candidates have secured equal aggregate marks in NDA & NA exam, the ties are resolved in accordance with the following principles approved by the Commission:

  • In case of equal marks in aggregate, the candidate senior in age may be placed at higher rank and
  • In case of the candidates having same age and same aggregate marks, the candidate getting higher aggregate score in written papers may be placed at higher rank

NDA cutoffs are released on the official website in PDF form after the declaration of the final result. The cutoff marks are also provided on this page after it is announced by the examination authority. The cut off are released separately for written exam and final selection. NDA Eligibility & Application Form 2026

NDA 2 online form 2026 was released on May 20 at upsc.gov.in. The last date to fill the application form was June 11, 2026. The application fee was INR 100. SC/ST/Sons of JCOs, NCOs, ORs are exempted from fee payment. To register for the exam, candidates need to create the unique registration number. Candidates can follow the process below for filling NDA application form.

NDA Eligibility 2026

Candidates need to fulfil the following NDA eligibility criteria 2026 in order to be eligible for the exam:

  • NDA Age Limit: Only unmarried male/female candidates born not earlier than 01st Jul 2007 and not later than 01st July 2010 are eligible
  • NDA Marital Status: Only unmarried male and female candidates can apply for the exam.

Union Public Service Commission has revised NDA application process. As per the new process, online form comprises Account Creation, Universal Registration,  Common Application Form and Examinations. All applicants are required to fill up the application and upload their documents in the newly introduced portal afresh. The old One Time Registration (OTR) module will not be applicable.

Q:   Are NDA and CDS syllabus same?
A: 

NDA exam is conducted for admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of National Defence Academy and Indian Naval Academy Course. CDS exam is conducted to select eligible candidates for Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), Air Force Academy (AFA) and Officers Training Academy (OTA).

The level of NDA syllabus is of Class 10, 11 and 12 levels. Whereas the standard of CDS syllabus is of graduation level. NDA syllabus is divided into Maths and GAT. CDS syllabus is divided into Elementary Maths, English and General Awareness. The total marks allotted to the NDA written exam are 900. The total marks allotted to the written exam of CDS are 300 for IMA, INA and AFA and 200 for OTA. 

Q:   What is pre-commissioning stipend for NDA Gentlemen Cadets?
A: 

The Lady/Gentlemen Cadets during pre commission trg when in receipt of stipend are insured for INR One Cr as applicable to officers of the regular Army. Monthly AGIF subscription will be deducted directly by PCDA (O), Pune. For those who are invalidated out by Invalidated Medical Board (IMB) on account of disability and not entitled to any pension will be provided INR 25 Lacs for 100 percent disability. This will be proportionately reduced to INR 5 Lacs for 20 percent disability. However, for less than 20 percent disability, an ex-gratia grant of INR 50,000 only will be paid. Disability due to alcoholism, drug addiction
and due to the diseases of pre-enrolment origin will not qualify for disability benefit and ExGratia Grant. In addition, Lady/Gentleman Cadets withdrawn on disciplinary grounds, expelled  as an undesirable or leaving the Academy voluntarily will not be eligible for disability benefits and Ex-Gratia. 

Q:   Who earns more- NDA officer or IAS officer?

The NDA Cadets receive a fixed stipend of INR 56,100 per month. An IAS Officer earn between INR 56,100 and INR 2,50,000.
Q:   What is the per month salary for NDA Officers?
A: 

NDA salary per month is INR 56,100 during the training period. After joining NDA, candidates get the starting salary. Over the time, the NDA salary increases based on the experience and performance. NDA salary per month for Lieutenant is between INR 56,100-1,77,500. The highest NDA salary for Officer is INR 2,50,000 per month for the Chief of Army Staff. The month-wise NDA salary is given below:

  • Captain: INR 61,300-1,93,900
  • Major: INR 6,94,00-2,07,200
  • Lieutenant Colonel: INR 1,21,200-2,12,400

NDA syllabus is prescribed by the examination authority. The syllabus comprises the topics that candidates need to prepare for the exam. The first and foremost step towards preparation is going through the syllabus. NDA syllabus has two sections for the written exam, General Ability Test (GAT) and Mathematics. The NDA salary per month for the Lieutenant post ranges from INR 56,100 to 1,77,500, while the highest salary for NDA Officer is INR 2,50,000 per month for the Chief of Army Staff.

Army group insurance fund cover is INR 15 Lakh. An ex-gratia amount of INR 12.5 Lacs or INR 9,000 per month is paid to the NoK. 

Q:   What is the difference between NDA 1 and 2 exams?
A: 

There is no difference between UPSC NDA 1 and 2 exams. NDA 1 exam is conducted for admission to the January batch. Whereas, NDA 2 exam is conducted for admission to July batch.

National Defence Academy or NDA exam is conducted twice a year by Union Public Service Commission for admission to  Army, Navy and Air Force wings of NDA and Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC). It is the most sought-after defence entrance exams in the country where both male and female candidates can apply.

The exam is conducted in two stages: written exam and SSB Interview. In 2020, a total of 5.3 Lacs candidates had applied for the exam, out of which 2.4 Lacs candidates appeared for the exam. UPSC prepares a list of candidates who obtain minimum qualifying marks in the written exam. Such candidates are called for SSB Interview for Intelligence and Personality Test.

Yes, you can give the NDA exam as you have qualified the Class 12 exam. As per the age requirement candidates age should lie between 16.5 to 19.5 years to apply for the NDA exam. However, go through the eligibility criteria properly once before applying for the exam.
