BTech Courses Eligibility Criteria & Admission Process 2025

The eligibility criteria for B Tech courses usually require the students to have at least 50 to 60 percent marks in Class 12 board exams, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects. As an exception, for some engineering fields such as Biotechnology Engineering, Agriculture and Textile Engineering, Mathematics may not be a compulsion; however, most of the engineering specializations require students to have a strong hold on Mathematics subject. Top IITs ask for at least 75% marks in the PCM subjects.

The basic eligibility requirement for admission to BTech courses after 12th is given below:

BTech Course Details BTech Eligibility Criteria
BTech Entrance Exams (Typical)
B.Tech (Full Form: Bachelor of Technology)
  • Minimum 50-60 percent marks in Class 12 exams, which may vary depending on the college and the chosen specialization.
  • Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects in 12th grade. Biology students are also considered for admission to a few BTech specializations.
JEE Main (National Level): For admission to IITs, NITs, and other GFTIs.
State Level Entrance Exams: Each state might have its own engineering entrance exam.
University Specific Entrance Exams: Some universities conduct their own specific entrance exams.
BTech (Lateral Entry) - (For students with a diploma) A Diploma in Engineering (or a related field) from a recognized institution. Minimum marks in the diploma program as per university requirements, which is typically around 50%.
Separate Entrance Exams for Lateral Entry: Some universities might conduct separate entrance exams for students entering through the lateral entry scheme.
JEE Main (Lateral Entry): A few institutes might accept JEE Main scores for lateral entry admissions.

BTech Admission Process 2025

BTech full form is Bachelor of Technology and all the students need to follow a general process pattern for admission to any Indian engineering institute. Various steps involved in B Tech admission 2025 are given below:

  • First and foremost step for BTech courses aspirants is that they need to appear and qualify for one of the major engineering entrance exams for admission to an institute.
  • National-level engineering entrance exams such as JEE Main are accepted by NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, and several other private colleges. JEE Advanced entrance exam scores are mostly considered for admission to top IITs in the country.
  • Other than the above-mentioned two exams, BTech admission is also done through state-level exams such as AP EAMCET, TS EAMCET, MHT CET, KCET, COMEDK UGET, etc., and university/college-level exams such as BITSAT, VITEEE, SRMJEEE and UPESEAT.
  • Fill out the college application forms before the last date to enjoy a smooth admission process.
  • After the declaration of exam results, counseling and seat allotment process is conducted by the concerned authorities. During counselling, students have to choose the college and BTech courses of their choice based on their ranks in the exam.
  • After seat allotment, every student must visit the allotted engineering college to complete the admission formalities like document verification and submission of B Tech course fees.

BTech Admission Without Entrance Exams

B Tech full form is Bachelor of Technology and the BTech admission without entrance exams is possible in India by two main ways:

  1. Management Quota Seats: Many private colleges reserve a certain percentage of seats for direct admission through the management quota. These seats are filled on the basis of the candidate's Class 12 marks and sometimes involve an additional donation fee.

  2. Direct Admission Based on Merit: Some private colleges might offer a limited number of seats for direct admission based on the candidate's 12th-grade merit without requiring entrance exam scores. They may conduct additional rounds like skill assessment round and personal interview round to assess the candidate's skills.

It's important to note that:

  • These options are more prevalent in private universities and colleges.
  • Top-ranked institutions such as IITs and NITs typically prioritize entrance exams for admissions.
  • Competition for management quota seats can be high depending on the number of applicants.
