JoSAA 2025: The Joint Seat Allocation Authority has completed the JoSAA counselling process. The JoSAA 2025 rounds 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 opening and closing ranks are also out for IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. The link to check JoSAA cutoff for all rounds is available below on this page.

Round 6 was the last round for JoSAA 2025 counselling. There will be no seat allotment after this round for the IITs or the NIT+ system. However, for the NITs, IIITs and GFTIs, the leftover vacant seats, if any, will be filled via the CSAB 2025 counselling process. The total number of undergraduate engineering seats available through JoSAA counselling 2025 was 62,853 across all IITs, NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs.

Latest Update: All vacant seats after JoSAA round 6 counselling for the NIT+ system will be filled via CSAB 2025 special counselling. CSAB 2025 special round registration and the CSAB choice filling for special rounds will start on July 30.

Each round of the JoSAA counselling had these steps: seat allotment, seat confirmation by candidates, online reporting at the allotted institute, and payment of fees. After all the rounds, any vacant seats remaining will be allotted via the CSAB counselling 2025.

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) conducts the JoSAA counselling at the national level for admission to IITs, NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other GFTIs. The admission to IITs will be based on JEE Advanced 2025 ranks, and for NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other GFTIs, allotments will be done based on JEE Main 2025 ranks.

All candidates who qualify the JEE Advanced 2025 exam and have JEE Main ranks have to register for JoSAA counselling for admission to desired UG engineering courses offered by IITs, NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other GFTIs. Q:   What is JoSAA?
A:

JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) has been set up by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) to manage and regulate joint seat allocation for admissions to over 100 institutes including IITs, NITs, IIITs, and Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs). Admissions to all these institutes will be done through a single platform. The idea behind introducing a single counselling platform was to reduce thousands of seats going vacant in engineering colleges across the country. The Joint seat allocation process was introduced to make the whole process of admissions smoother, effective, efficient, transparent and a lot faster. Candidates who qualify for the JEE Main or JEE Advanced must register for JoSAA 2025 to participate in the counselling and admission process for various renowned engineering institutes across India. The admission process for admissions in 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 25 IIITs, and 28 Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs) is managed by The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). Candidates will be allotted seats in various rounds of JoSAA counselling. The seat allotment through JoSAA will be based on the merit of candidates and their preference for courses and colleges.

What is JoSAA Counselling?

JoSAA counselling is a national level counselling process. It is a centralised counselling process for all candidates with JEE Main and JEE Advanced ranks. All UG courses admission offered based on JEE Mains ranks at NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other GFTIs is done via JoSAA. Similarly for IITs, all UG course admisison based on JEE Advanced ranks is based on the JoSAA counselling process.

JoSAA is the abbreviation of Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). This counselling process has been set up by the Ministry of Education to oversee the admission process at 23 IITs, 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 27 IIITs, and 40 Other-GFTIs. Eligible candidates after passing JEE Mains and JEE Advanced have to participate in JoSAA counselling for admission at the IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs.

Commonly asked questions
Q:   Can I get NIT with 95 percentile in JEE Main?
A:

It is possible for you to secure a seat in an NIT (National Institute of Technology), although it may not guarantee your preferred branch or institute. If your percentile is above 96, your chances of getting into a respectable NIT increases, but you may need to compromise on your branch selection. However, if you aim for a decent NIT with a preferred branch in the core field, you would need to score above 97.5%. On the other hand, if your goal is to get admission to a top college with the CSE (Computer Science and Engineering) branch, your score would need to be higher than 99.4%.

Q:   How is CSAB different from JoSAA?
A:

CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) and JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) are both involved in the seat allocation process for engineering admissions in IITs, NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other GFTIs. However, via JoSAA seat are allotted to all available seats in IITs, NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other GFTIs. But via CSAB seat is allotted only at NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other GFTIs against the vacant seats left after JoSAA counselling last round based on JEE Main scores.

Q:   Who conducts the JoSAA counselling?
A:

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) is coducted at national level. It is established by Mininistry of Education for admission to the IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.

Q:   I want to get admission to IIIT Delhi through JEE Main. Do I go through with JoSAA counselling or do I have to apply for JAC Delhi?
    A:

Admission to IIIT D B.Tech courses is via the JAC Delhi counselling only. Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT-Delhi) do not offer admission via JoSAA counselling. Joint Admission Counseling Delhi conducts JAC Delhi counselling for admission to BE/B.Tech and B.Arch degree programmes offered by 5 technical universities/institutes of the Government of NCT, Delhi. These institutes/universities include Delhi Technological University (DTU), Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW), Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT-D), Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University (DSEU), and Netaji Subhas University of Technology (NSUT). .

Q:   Is a domicile Certificate required for admission to NITs?
    A:

The state in which you take your 12th board test is used to determine admission, not your home state. When receiving JoSAA counselling, the domicile certificate is not necessary. The JEE score of the applicants determines their admission.

    Commonly asked questions
Q:   If I got a rank above 9 lakhs in JEE Mains, can I still apply for JoSAA counselling to get the best colleges under this rank?
    A:

A JEE rank of more than 70,000 is typically regarded as low, and applicants frequently give up on getting into the NITs and B.Tech programmes of their choice. The good news is that a number of universities, such as NITs and IIITs, accept JEE Main low scores up to 2,000,000. Based on the data from the previous year, NIT Mizoram has the lowest cutoff with a closing rank of 678406 for B.Tech. Civil Engineering (Gender-Neutral). It is followed by NIT Sikkim, which has a JEE Main rank of 639272 for B.Tech. EEE, and NIT Agartala, which has a JEE Main rank of 287950 for B.Tech. Biotech & Bio Chem Engineering. Therefore a rank of 9 Lacs can also have a chance of getting into colleges.

    JoSAA 2025 Counselling Process

The various steps included in JoSAA 2025 counselling are given below:

    JoSAA Counselling Process

    JoSAA Counselling Process 2025

Step 1: Get Registered - For registration, candidates need to log in to JoSAA’s official portal using their JEE Main 2025 application number, candidate name, mother’s name and date of birth. After logging in, candidates must check all details such as gender, nationality, state code of eligibility, contact information, etc. Candidates will be required to confirm all the details. Every applicant must keep in mind that, apart from contact information, no other personal data will be modified during JoSAA 2025 registration.

Step 2: Filling of Choices - After the registration, candidates will need to fill in their choices of branches and colleges in order of preference. As per the candidate’s qualifications, the available choices for admission will be listed. Once the choices are entered, candidates will be able to arrange them in order of their preference by selecting “Arrange Filled Choices”.

Step 3: Locking of Choices - Once candidates are done with choice filling, they have to lock their choices and take a printout of the selected options for future reference.

Step 4: Seat Allocation - Candidates will be allotted seats based on their rank, choices entered for programmes and colleges, and availability of seats. If students are satisfied with the institute and programme, they can choose the Freeze option; otherwise, they can choose either Float or Slide.

Step 5: Payment of seat acceptance fee - The candidates have to pay the seat acceptance fee online. Failure to pay the seat acceptance fee constitutes a refusal of the offered or allocated seat and renders the candidate ineligible for further participation in subsequent rounds of the seat allocation process. The candidates who will not pay the seat acceptance fee, their documents will not be verified.

Step 6: Document Verification - In this step, candoidates have to complete the document verification process. This process tales place online, where candidates have to upload the documents and the verification officer might question the candidates if needed regarding their documents. These queries will be posted on the candidate portal, which the candidates have to resolv before the deadline.

Step 7: Reporting at Institute - As the last step, candidates have to report to the allotted college as per the orientation and class commencement schedule.

Q:   What do you mean by internal sliding in the JoSAA counselling?
    A:

Internal sliding is changing the branch within the same college. Therefore, during special rounds, candidates who have already accepted a seat in an earlier round may be considered for upgradation based on their merit and the availability of seats. However, internal sliding allows candidates to upgrade their seats within the institute they have been allotted, but it is subject to certain conditions specified by JoSAA.

Q:   Can we change the preferences for round 2 in JoSAA 2024 counselling after the result of round 1?
    A:

No. In JoSAA counselling, it is typically not possible to modify the preference order of your choice fill-up, add and remove certain choices after the results of round. Candidates cannot introduce new choices once the initial choice filling period is over and neither they can modify their existing preference of choices.

Q:   Will I be allowed to reshuffle the choices at any stage of seat allotment during JoSAA Counselling?
    A:

The reshuffling of choices will only be allowed during the choice filling period before these choices are locked. The candidates can register and fill their choices wiyhin the specific deadline. No candidate will be allowed to reorder the choices selected after the specified time period. The candidates must carefully fill their choices and lock them.

However, with a 92 percentile, you can still expect to gain admission to several NITs that have slightly lower cutoffs such as NIT Agartala, NIT Hamirpur, NIT Srinagar, and other newer or mid-tier NITs. Admission is also possible to some Government-Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs) and mid-ranked

With 3 Lacs CRL and 11k OBC-NCL rank, chances in JoSAA are low for top branches. But don't skip counseling. Try filling all NITs, IIITs, and even lower branches. Also check CSAB special rounds later. You might still get a seat if some colleges have vacant spots.
