The Electrical Engineering admission in India includes both Class 12 merit and valid entrance exam scores. Electrical Engineering courses will teach about the planning, analysis, building, and regular maintenance of heavy electrical machinery and equipment, including circuit boards, control systems, and high-voltage power systems. 

The general Electrical Engineering admission requirements for UG courses are to pass Class 12 with at least 50 to 60 percent marks in PCM subjects. For PG courses, students must have completed graduation in the same or a related field with at least 55 percent marks.

IITs

B Tech Electrical Engineering

  • Students must have passed Class 12 from any recognized board with at least 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects.
  • Students should be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates in B.E./B.Tech paper of JEE Main 2025. Qualifying the JEE Advanced exam is also necessary.
  • Students must have been born on or after October 1, 2000. Five years age relaxation is given to SC, ST, & PwD category students, i.e. these students must have been born on or after October 1, 1995.

 

MTech Electrical Engineering

  • Students with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering/CSE/ECE/Engineering Physics from educational institutions approved by AICTE/ Government are eligible to apply, given they have scored at least 60% marks.
  • Students with a B.Tech. Degree from IITs with a CGPA of 8.0 and above can even apply without the GATE score.

 

PhD Electrical Engineering

  • Students must have completed post-graduation in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline with at least 55 to 65% marks.
  • The admission is based on the score obtained in GATE exam.
  • Students with a bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science (4-year programme) with at least 75 percent marks/7.5 CPI and a valid GATE score can also apply.

NITs

B Tech Electrical Engineering

  • Students must have passed Class 12 from any recognized board with a minimum of 75% marks in Physics & Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/Biotechnology/Technical Vocational subjects.
  • There is no particular age limit for admission.

 

MTech Electrical Engineering

  • Students must have passed Bachelor's degree with at least 60% marks. Candidates should secure 6.5 CGPA or 60% for GEN-EWS, whereas 6.0 CGPA or 55% in case of PwD candidates.
  • They must have a valid GATE score of the year 2023 / 2024 / 2025.

 

PhD Electrical Engineering

  • Students must have got 60% marks in M Tech in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Students passed B.Tech (with valid GATE) in Electrical Engineering with at least 75% marks under GEN/ OBC-NCL/ GEN-EWS category or 70% under SC/ ST/ PwD category are also eligible.

Diploma in Electrical Engineering

Students must have passed Class 10 or its equivalent with at least 35 to 50% marks each in Science and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. They must also have studied English as one of the major subjects.

 

B Tech Electrical Engineering

  • Students must have passed Class 12 in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects with at least 50 to 60% marks. A relaxation of 5% marks is given to reserved category students.
  • He/She must be a citizen of India.
  • Students with a 3-year diploma in Engineering recognized by AICTE or a state board of technical education with at least 50 to 55% marks can also apply via lateral entry.

 

MTech Electrical Engineering

Students must hold a B.E./BTech Electrical Engineering degree or a related degree with at least 55 to 60% marks in graduation.

 

PhD Electrical Engineering

Students must hold a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with at least 55% marks and clear relevant entrance tests.

Students must have passed Class 10 or its equivalent with at least 40 to 55% marks each in Science and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. They must also have studied English as one of the major subjects.

 

B Tech Electrical Engineering

  • Students must have passed Class 12 in the Science stream with at least 45 to 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects.
  • Several colleges also offer merit-based admissions, considering the Class 12 board exam marks. In this case, students have to appear for the GD or PI rounds as well after result declaration.

 

MTech Electrical Engineering

  • Students must have scored 55 to 60% marks in qualifying degree and appear for the online entrance test conducted at the national/state/college level.

 

PhD Electrical Engineering

JEE Main Syllabus

The JEE Main syllabus revolves around three core subjects from Class 11 and Class 12: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Each subject will have two sections, sections A and B.

Section A will have multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and Section B will contain numerical value questions. In Section B, students have to attempt any five questions out of 10, and there is no negative marking for Section B.

MHT CET Syllabus

The MHT CET exam is of 300 marks, which consists of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Biology of 100 marks each. It gives 20% weightage to the syllabus of Class 11, whereas 80% weightage to the Class 12 syllabus.

There is no negative marking in the exam, but the difficulty level of the questions is said to be similar to JEE Main.

GATE Syllabus

The syllabus for GATE varies across various disciplines and topics such as Verbal Ability and Numerical Ability are the common topics for all papers. Moreover, the syllabus for various specialisations is of graduation-level and candidates ability to solve reasoning and numerical questions are also tested through this examination.

KEAM Syllabus

The entrance examination consists of subjects such as Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of Class 11 and 12 level. KEAM question paper carries a total of 120 objective-type questions.

KCET Syllabus

The KCET exam will test the students' knowledge of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology.

Each question in the exam will carry one mark with four options, out of which only one answer will be correct. There will be no negative marking in the exam.

For NSUT college there are two modes of admission through Gate and Non Gate . 

Gate means GATE exam conducted by IIT .

And Non GATE means exam conducted by NSUT college itself
